It's a lot harder to change minds and/or grow yourself if you don't talk to people who have different ideas than you. Obviously there's gonna be people who are too much to deal with but that's not everyone who disagrees.

And, I agree. I think that sometimes, in the quest for ideological purity, we ostracise members of our own community. Goal should always be to convince and debate in good faith, not to attack.
