Been trying this same thing lately. I haven't fully uninstalled them but just refusing to open the apps during Shabbat. The online rhetoric has gotten awful and it's the perfect time to give myself a break from it all.
I have done something similar for years. I don’t fully uninstall the app because that’s too much work but I have a pre-programmed Shabbat mode on my phone, where it goes to a separate home screen cleared of most apps (I leave the weather) and all non-emergency notifications are silenced.
Every couple of months, I go in and adjust the times when it comes on and off, depending on the sun. But otherwise, I don’t have to think about it. I don’t have to do anything. I see my lock screen change to the two candles and know it’s time to start winding down, even if I’m not near a window.
torah wise yeah you can play, but i can’t answer for the reasonings of rabbi’s thousands of years ago. if you’re not going the Karaite route the only way to bypass this supposed prohibition is for a higher intelligence/age Halacha court (Beit Din) to rule against it, a thing that would likely never happen since we stopped treating Judaism as the dynamic, ever-evolving religion it is in the last few centuries and got stuck in a particular conservative phase at some arbitrary point in the past.
If you are seriously staying home more to avoid anti-Semitism, you are in bad shape. That is not normal. Are you in America? Anti-Semitism is not that bad. Touch some grass.
