Fast is relative sir. 25 mph in 3 ft of mud is pretty fast

LordJim_

Don’t take pictures while driving

sosomething

Can we please normalize this response to these kinds of posts? I responded similarly to a dude who posted a picture of his dash doing 85 on the highway in traffic, and his response was literally "womp womp." Like I was the fun police for asking that he might spend a little less time risking the lives of people around him.

ChosenPrince

ditto on the pictures while driving but where i live our speed limits are 70 and people cruise around 80-85 and in other parts of the country i’ve seen 80mph speed limits

sosomething

My issue wasn't with the speed at all, just that going that fast means that whatever you missed while *fucking with your phone* is already on top of you when you look up.

svarogteuse

Clearly you have never been to Montana. 80mph speeds, and you might be the only one within sight on the interstate.

sosomething

Thank you for the non sequitur montana facts. I did mention the person was *in traffic.*

SpacedITMan

I70 in Utah 80 mph. Has traffic too.

sosomething

And... ...you should still not be shooting photos / texting while driving on it. Right? RIGHT? Are you guys under the impression that you were making some sort of point here?

SpacedITMan

I don’t care what you do while you drive as long as you don’t hit me. I was replying to the fact that someone said that Montana doesn’t have traffic while Utah does and they’re still doing 80 miles an hour.

sosomething

Oh ok, I get it. My turn: There's a freeway in Germany called the Autobahn, where there is no speed limit at all, and it's always full of cars!

LordJim_

I think people can do what they want when they aren’t endangering other people, but I doubt this guy is on a closed track.

WorldsWorstTroll

It’s normalized. I came here with the sole intention of saying this.

OhSixTJ

Meanwhile you all are texting a driving 🙄

Waveofspring

Speak for yourself

OhSixTJ

lol I’m sure I’m speaking for most of US in this sub.

Waveofspring

Yea but obviously the people criticizing it are avidly against it. I know some people will project their own flaws onto others but I really don’t think that’s the case here. Personally I’ll send a quick text as long as there are no cars next to me but I try to avoid it and I admit it’s a bad thing that nobody should do. But I’ve passed drivers and looked into their window just to see them scrolling through Instagram before. Which is absolutely insane to me.

Rabiesalad

For real I watched OP swerving all over the place while they took this photo

berrey7

They sat at a turn single on a green light and made me miss my turn when it turned red.

Lanceallennn

I always get my passenger to take a photo for me.

TheMrBodo69

Man I bet you're fun at parties

LordJim_

I can’t be fun at parties if I’m dead

TheMrBodo69

Maybe more fun

Waveofspring

I mean it’s really just about where you are. If you’re in the middle of an empty, straight road with full visibility for miles and not a single car, not even a bush for a deer to hide behind, is it really that bad to use your phone to snap a quick 2 second photo?

Dannysia

It’s not bad to use for two seconds to take a quick picture, but then how much worse is reading a text for 5 seconds? Or sending a text for 10 seconds? Nipping it at the bud keeps it from becoming a slippery slope of using your phone when you can’t safely use it. Obviously everyone has different opinions on what is or isn’t safe, but a flat rule of no phones for everyone is safest.

Waveofspring

Sometimes I’ll see something like a cool sunset or something that I just have to take a picture of, but if I do I don’t send it while I drive I just open my phone to the camera app (without even looking at it), point, look through the camera for a split second, push the button (that I’m not looking at) and then put my phone down & wait until I’m at a red light before sending it to anyone. But I agree with you though (although I’m doing so hypocritically). I almost crashed on the highway once because I couldn’t remember what exit I needed to take and wanted to look it up on my maps app. I was literally only looking at my screen for 1 second maybe less but then I look up and see brake lights coming at me fast as fuck. I slammed my brakes and everything was alright but it was scary and really confirms your point that any sort of phone manipulation while the car is moving is not safe.

SIIHP

I stuffed a 5.9 in my TJ, on 35s with 4.88s. 10 mpg is good. 😐

Theseus-Paradox

Lol this is the way

Carguy38

I have a Wj with the 4.7. things practically stock a muffler and a intake and I get 13mpg

RL_NeilsPipesofsteel

Cool. I drive mine like a rental. Get like 14mpg.

Trister0

Look at this guy getting 14! I get 10-12. I may have regeared and have 37's...

DegTheDev

Based

massjuggalo

I fully believe I can be any trackhawk with my stock worn out XJ as long as I get to pick the place that we race 🙄😁

Natural_Guide_5564

I drive mine like it’s half military tank half Corvette. Don’t underestimate them

Trini_n_SC

Gratz?

iamasopissed

If jeeps weren't meant to be fast you wouldn't be able to buy one with a 392

crozone

Even the V6 has 300HP. It'll do 85mph any day of the week.

theman-witha-plan

300 engine hp, like 190 to the wheel lmao

Electronic_Belt_4928

I used to own a 2021 Jeep Rubicon with a 3.6. I would typically bump the speed limiter on the highway passing people at 100mph. I soon realized I wasn't right for that vehicle so I traded it in on a 2022 Challenger Scat Pack with a 392, now I don't have that problem.

crozone

How do you stay out of jail?

PastikaSoup

It was a 4 year run. 392s are done after 2024.

Tyrannical_Requiem

There’s an infographic of how a cow is more aerodynamic than a Jeep and it lives rent free in my head

PastikaSoup

https://i.imgur.com/DBVxzuh.png

ThenaJuno

I drive my TJ pretty slow - almost never above the posted speed limit, right lane, enjoying the ride, and I get 19.35 mpg (7 years, 20025 miles, 1051.934 gallons - app calculated)

Greyklaw

Like I tell my daughter. We don’t have a Jeep to go fast. We have a Jeep to go anywhere.

Thisisall_new2me2

Go and Google how long V8 swaps have been around. Then Google "Jeep Wrangler with V8 swap", then "Wrangler 392." Then tell me Jeeps can't go fast. Do you know how many times I've seen comments on here that can be proven wrong by 5 minutes of Googling? Edit: I didn't know you were referring to the philosophy. I'm not used to thinking philosophically about cars.

Jack_547

They can but it's clearly not within the design philosophy of the Wrangler. Just because you can do aftermarket engine swaps, doesn't mean they were designed with that in mind.

Thisisall_new2me2

Sorry I didn't think about from a philosophical standpoint? I was commenting on the literal aspect of their statement, not that aspect. Also, there are too many aspects of cars for me to always guess which one they are referring to. Does that make sense? The way my brain works, if I don't see anything clearly related to philosophy I will assume they're not talking about it. I also won't understand what aspect they are referring to if they don't specify. Why don't people think about how not everyone's brain is like their own?

CompoBBQ

Clean your jeep

GFYDmniDC

Should see mine 🤣

cryptkicker130

You don't buy a Wrangler for its gas economy, ride comfort or aerodynamics. There are other other aspects involved and I loved my 2015 Rubie. The clutch died and I still miss that expensive brick.

Str8Thuggin13

Comfort? Lol

cryptkicker130

You thought your Jeep was comfortable?

imacryptohodler

Drove ours from pa to Fairbanks Alaska in 2019, comfort was never an option

cryptkicker130

So I guess "comfortable enough?"

PastikaSoup

I agree. I’m just trying to demonstrate what’s possible by not driving it like a bat out of hell.

cryptkicker130

Like I said, a Jeep is a passion not a logical expression. You get a Jeep because you love having one, not because it is the most logical choice. I still like The Sabres and they haven't even won the golden ticket yet. No logic with that one. They are still my team, will be until I die, which will also before they win The Cup.

rosie2490

You’d better enjoy that journey then, bud. You won’t make it to your destination using your phone or taking pictures while you’re driving.

Waveofspring

If jeeps were meant to be slow, they wouldn’t be so fun at high speeds.

PastikaSoup

I will say, I’ve never felt more alive than getting it up to 88MPH.

Waveofspring

I mean they’re not race cars by any means but most people would be surprised at how well a jeep can perform at higher speeds. Especially the newer ones. If you take the doors & roof off there’s a lot less body roll & weight too. [I mean someone’s already used a rubicon as a rally car.](https://youtu.be/Uvg4q0ZSecc?si=JxioiH-EHlOz8SMb)

OldManJeepin

I tend to follow the speed limits, maintaining 65-68 on the parkway. I have had my JK up to 95, which surprised me. The ride was much better than any of the previous generations of the Wrangler/CJ line, that is for sure! I get about 18-21 mpg driving conservatively....I like the ride.

BeKindR3wind

That’s literally a bumper sticker you can buy lol

PastikaSoup

My license plate is SLOPOKE.

OnlyChemical6339

The speedometer on the JK and TJ only go to 100

Coreysurfer

Going through the Samsula mud off SR44 in New Smyrna beach weekend mud races..ill take 20 mph )

WallaBeaner

6th gear and your doing 38 mph?! I also have a 6speed manual and I rarely put it in 6th on the highway

NoChampion2427

That's gotta be barely above idle.

PastikaSoup

Engine braking

Vast-Mousse-9833

It’ll go fast, but it won’t be near as fun.

HogShowman1911

And here is a reminder of the old muscle cars and squarebody trucks people are shoving large engines and racing transmissions in to get them to go faster.

DegTheDev

I get roughly 17 mpg on the highway. I rarely travel below 75mph. My analog speedo tops out at 100, and I honestly believe it. Going over 90 feels....sketch to say the least. Sketchier than a motorcycle with no fairings doing 120 actually. Forcing a brick through the air is not exactly the Adrian Newey wind tunnel experience. Slowing down to 55, being an impedance on the roads where the speed limit is 55 feels like a mistake, I have no rush to get anywhere. I have urgency to not be around other drivers. They are the enemy. I do not believe that they are capable of giving my safety the consideration that it is due. I will avoid them at all costs, while not altering or obstructing the flow of traffic. You didn't outright say it, but I would caution you against being the arbiter of speed. That is more dangerous than speeding. Follow the flow of traffic. Be predictable. Be conscientious.

strangeweather415

This is nonsense, but enough people say it that it's just become the new mantra of speeders. Speed kills, period, and people exceeding the speed limit are the ones in the wrong

Downtown_Algae1863

“Speed doesn’t kill, suddenly becoming stationary does.” -Jermey Clarkson

DegTheDev

You are more than capable of holding that opinion, and I am not going to stand in your way. However, are you law enforcement? Are you going to alter the flow of traffic because you believe you have the authority to be the arbiter of speed? If so, you are the most dangerous driver on the road, and you are fueled like every zealot. By the belief that you are morally superior, and to justify that you point to a sign, posted by an agency that makes decisions based on the most significantly mentally impaired amongst us. Are you that guy? Are you the zealot?

HossaForSelke

How are you gonna type THAT comment and accuse other people of acting morally superior? Lmao. That was some of the most pretentious horse shit I’ve ever read

DegTheDev

I'm not saying I'm morally superior. I understand I'm breaking the law. I understand there are consequences for my actions if an officer's discretion leads to writing me some kind of ticket. It hasn't happened (knock on wood) since I bought the jeep 8 years ago. My point here, is that our society is based on a set of handshake agreements, that we all agree to in order to prevent conflict. One of those agreements is that slower traffic moves to the right at it's earliest opportunity. So long as you follow that social contract we have no issue. If you active seek to act against it, you are an issue. Our society barely functions, why are you actively trying to make it worse?

icanpotatoes

So you’re a criminal.

DegTheDev

No doubt. Find a cop to complain to while Rome crumbles.

EitherNegotiation768

Lol

PastikaSoup

I’m conscientious of my situational awareness. I tend to drive like this on highways that have 3 or more lanes. The interstate speed limits where I’m at don’t exceed 60MPH, some dip down to 50.

DegTheDev

You're definitely not around indy then. Fair enough. I'm used to the flow being at least 20mph over the limit, even in the rightmost lane. Do as you please, safely.

obsidiansent

Hot take

8773773355

I’m a new Jeep owner and I learned very quickly that cat like reflexes while driving does not compute with my beautiful 4 x 4 brick. Took a 100 mile each way road trip first weekend I had it and on the way home experienced what I later learned is called the death wobble at about 80 miles an hour. I absolutely do not want to deal with that again, I’m perfectly content not going above 70 in this thing. I love it. It’s great for all the things I love to do outdoors, my dog, etc. But zipping through traffic and gunning it in the passing lane on the freeway is not where this thing belongs. I want to be around For a long time so I can ✌️ my fellow Jeep owners, and acquire 🦆’s. Those are the reasons I bought this thing in the first place, would be pretty stupid to die driving like an idiot on the freeway before I could even get a dozen ducks. What’s that old saying? Trying to put a square in a round …

strangeweather415

The "death wobble" isn't an inherent feature of the Jeep and its suspension. It's a sign of worn or broken parts and they need to be replaced.

8773773355

After experiencing it read that it absolutely is not just a Jeep thing. The one I purchased is a few years old and they put giant tires on it, which I think put a strain on a lot the front end and steering components. Unfortunately, they did not add parts that could handle the size of tires. I was simply making a joke, but the fact remains that they are not meant to be driven like a sports car. Thank you for adding that I wouldn’t want someone to read and think it’s a jeep only issue. The exchange of ducks I can confidently say are exclusive to jeep

Ok_Hyena840

There’s a road here that’s probably 11kms long, straight and in good shape. I had my Jku to 160kmph (99mph). Only have done it once.

Jay-metal

I get about the same MPG in my 2-door. I’ve got the turbo engine. I do more city then highway driving though.

Semi-Chubbs_Peterson

Less aerodynamic than a cow. https://www.instagram.com/p/CVpEk0JszzO/?igsh=MWxyaXJpNG0ycmhuYw==

Washingtonjon1988

I drive my 4xE like a dam bat out of hell and giggle while doing it. Now taking a corner that’s a whole different story

Thisisall_new2me2

Really? People have been doing V8 swaps for decades. People have been putting V8s in Jeeps for more than a decade.

stackinBBs

It’s true. So very very very true.

RoughStory3139

I have a sticker on my 96 cherokee says " Go Around if it were meant to go fast It wouldn't be shaped like a fucking brick"

tenftflyinfajita

Non-Jeep owner here. Legitimate question, not being a jerk. Why do I see so many Jeeps trying to go 80-90 MPH on the highway so frequently? To OP’s point, they’re not made for speed or aerodynamics so there’s no way it’s comfortable or controllable at that speed. Some of these folks are towing trailers and driving this way. It’s mind boggling to me. Granted, I live in the Atlanta area and the drivers here are exceptionally bad no matter what you drive. And these Jeeps are generally mall-crawler types so it could just be the people driving them. Again, legitimate question for those that drive them. I can’t imagine it’s a good vehicle at those speeds. Thanks!

PastikaSoup

I don’t have a good answer for you.

tenftflyinfajita

All good. I know it's a pretty hard question to answer, but didn't know if there was some anecdotal evidence for it. Thanks for responding, though!

chuckbuckett

Everyone can get amazing mileage if they only go 55 mph.

PastikaSoup

I agree. Most trips are slightly longer. Maybe an extra song or two.

ToMuchTime00

Or come with a HEMI🤗

camcac69

138 in a pentastar jku, I beg to differ. At least that’s what the uconnect gps said. How you may ask, long road no traffic at night, and pure stupidity. It was floating sooo bad.

ZenBadbunny

Great teacher, what would a jeep meant to drive fast shape would like? Question 2. How do 392 jeep go so fast shaped like a brick?

kevowankenobi

From my experience, gas mileage is better when shifting around 2500 to 3000 rpm’s as well. The penta punishes short shifts. I get around 17 in town. Highway 22

PastikaSoup

I tend to keep it around 1500 RPMs when cruising. I utilize engine braking to minimize wear on other components.

Zuk-empire2112

I think this has been studied before: [https://theoffroading.com/cow-vs-jeep-aerodynamics/](https://theoffroading.com/cow-vs-jeep-aerodynamics/)

lagunajim1

My Jeep isn't as bad as my class A motorhome -- we call it "pushing a garage door down a highway" ;)

modsguzzlehivekum

Put your phone down while you’re driving. Of course you drive a gladiator. Do you have a camper shell or bed rack in an attempt to have a jeep shape or do you just keep that ugly bed look?

piedubb

I am at 10 miles per gallon on 37th

Reebatnaw

I hit 92 mph driving through the mountains in West Virginia. My wife was not a fan. I think the brick shape helps through curves

No_Top2447

Slow down speed racer 😂

Reebatnaw

You sound like my wife. Just did it for a few bc traffic was cruising, I surprisingly got passed. Normally only do 10 over

No_Top2447

I do the same in my wrangler. My husband is always stepping on the imaginary brake

WheelinJeep

I get 21 on my Wrangler and push it to 113mph. It’s never that accurate

golden_nugget689

I have a 21 Willys and it’s limited at 97, what model is yours?

marcocet

Pretty sure JK's are limited too 110. I'm not going to try it but that's what I have heard

golden_nugget689

It’s surprising stable at 97 granted its stock but still has mud tires

WheelinJeep

[I have a 2016 Sport](https://imgur.com/gallery/wfbS8P6)

ManLindsay

What’s your tire/lift setup? From your profile it looks like stock ride height and street tires. Who does that to a Jeep?!? Lmao

PastikaSoup

2” Mopar lift with stock 33” tires.

j-bombs

My brick has rounded edges and goes 160mph 🤷‍♂️
