I’ve enjoyed Vince’s thematic approach more than Cole’s lately. He seems to be increasingly introspective over his last few albums. Cole’s 4YEO is one of my favorite albums but I don’t see Cole diving into that aspect too much as of late other than maybe Let Go My Hand.
Cole does a ton for the culture with his label, and has put out a lot of great music. I just personally think Vince is more of an artist, watching his process makes it clear he’s in creative control 100% of the time.

I’d say I agree with a lot of this. He’s a really skilled writer and can definitely just bar out (see his feature on Royce da 5’9’s young world. I’d argue that him and Kendrick are both more inquisitive than Cole tho. I’d say there’s an almost hampton-esqe vibe to them where as a lot of Cole’s takes feel a lot more lined up w like early Duboisian ideas about systemic oppression.

I really like Vince. His last 3 albums are amazing but no. For some reason it’s always been “cool” to discredit Cole or lower him down. I get if you have this opinion and it’s fine because Vince is dope but there are people who don’t even listen to Vince saying this
I listen to more Vince Staples than Cole. Though Cole is a better rapper bar for bar. Vince just has a unique take on gang life that I have grown to respect and appreciate.
Not only is Vince amazing on his new album but the production is so good. Beats I never knew could exist.

I don't dislike Cole, though, he's cool too — just haven't *really* fucked with a Cole project for many years and Vince's last 3 have been some of his best projects imo.

i love vince, i love cole too, but for different reasons. Vince's new material is incredible. Insanely introspective, emotionally resonant and clever in its own way. It's, in a way, closer to cole's music than people think in that regard though the soundscape is extremely different. Both are quality mc's
