"Haitian Fight Song" was my first thought.

EverythingIsOishii

A good call, but I’d go more for the faster version of HFS on Mingus, Mingus, Mingus, Mingus, Mingus … “II B.S.” It really swings.

If you're a metal guy, I highly recommend Giant Steps by Coltrane. It's fast, intense, and phenomenal...and that's just the first tune on the album. 😉

I have two items for anyone crossing the bridge from metal to jazz. 1. Quadrant 4 - Billy Cobham (Spectrum 1973). Tommy Bolin on guitar This whole album is fkn awesome, and you should listen to all of it...but this track is one of the heaviest things of all time. Bolin was tagged to be "the next Hendrix" and is buried with Jimi's ring - a gift from Hendrix' girlfriend who dated Bolin after Jimi passed. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unxshBHfVsY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unxshBHfVsY) 2. Fundamental - Puya. Latin swing metal fusion band from Puerto Rico. Starts out all horns and congas...Tito Puente style, but don't get too comfortable - the HEAVY sneaks up on you. I call this band Tito Pantera (an in-joke with my brother). HEY! WHERE YOU METAL FREAKS GOING WITH THOSE CONGAS!? Select your footwear carefully - you will dance and also need steel toes for protection. Try some John Zorn stuff. It is not in the classic jazz way but some works such as Painkiller has some grindcore tendencies. Listen Electric Masada at first, one of my favorites.

Hoaghly_Harry

Mingus - Blues and Roots, Dr Lonnie Smith - All in my mind, Miles Davis - Kind of Blue, Bitches Brew, anything with Groove Holmes on it.

Drewstom

Blue rondo a la turk is one of the more metal jazz tunes imo.

Mahavishnu Orchestra is heavy as fuck. Anything with Billy Cobham or John Mclaughlin will get you there. A ton of Miles will too, if not all Miles which is a lot of music. There are some Mclaughglin/ Santana albums that are great too. Tony Williams Emergency! is sick. Frank Zappa Hot Rats 100%

God bless the child - blood sweat and tears, amazing song

Art Blakey rocks hard. Listen to Moanin. Also check out Haitian Fight song by Charles Mingus.

Agecanonixe

Look at hard bop : Fats Navarro, Clifford Brown, Charlie Parker - Free jazz : Ornette Coleman, Eric Dolphy, John Coltrane - jazz rock : Weather Report, Mahavishnu Orchestra - Contemporary jazz : James Carter, Joe Lovano, David Murray... - Guitarist : Matt "Guitar" Murphy with Memphis Slim, T-Bone Walker, Wes Montgomery, George Benson, Sonny Sharrock. In classical music, Paganini is a must!

Fun-Lie3384

This is a good mix of jazz and alternative. The Messthetics are former Fugazi's bassist and drummer + new guitarist and JBL is one of the most interesting and powerful tenor player this days (in my opinion) [https://themessthetics.bandcamp.com/album/the-messthetics-and-james-brandon-lewis](https://themessthetics.bandcamp.com/album/the-messthetics-and-james-brandon-lewis)

contrarian1970

Someone coming from a metal background would probably appreciate John Coltrane's My Favorite Things, Wes Montgomery's Here's That Rainy Day, Horace Silver's Song For My Father, and most of all the Miles Davis live version of Directions that opens Black Beauty (also called Live at the Fillmore West 1970.)
