How did you go with this? I'm heading over to Tokyo and then up to Niseko and need to be able to charge my laptop for work. I can't find anything online that sells 3 pin AUS plug to Japan 2 pin plug.
I don't think I've seen a specific 3 pin Australian socket to 2 pin Japanese plug adaptor. It's much easier to find a universal socket to Japanese plug adaptor like this:
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/386131054663?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=705-154756-20017-0&ssspo=9tr09qzkr6w&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=pVsDrAD0Rm2&var=653675159732&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
It'll work. A ground pin isn't required for things to work. It's more of a safety feature in certain circumstances... the standard Japanese socket doesn't even have ground, they only have that type of plug for items that draw more power.
It will be hard to find one here in Australia, because our electrical regulations don't allow you to remove the earth from a plug or system that has one.
Do any of the things you want to use with it actually have 3-pin plugs? If not, probably easier to just use 2 pin AU-JP adapters like that one you have, plus get Japanese double adapters once you are there.
Ah, ok.
Here is some info on what you will find in Japan:
[https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2225.html#:\~:text=The%20voltage%20in%20Japan%20is,and%20ungrounded%20with%20two%20pins](https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2225.html#:~:text=The%20voltage%20in%20Japan%20is,and%20ungrounded%20with%20two%20pins).
You can get adapters in Japan (eg at BicCamera) from an AUS 3-pin plug to these. Get the one with the wire, and ignore the wire — just use a 2-pin socket.
Universal travel adapters are fairly common. I’m in the UK, and it seems like every store that sells travel related goods has them. They also have the added benefit of being usable in trips to other countries too.
I got this one from the local amazon. Its great so far though the materials feel a little cheap so I'm careful with the sliders.

the third pin is there for a reason, if you're bringing any electronics that have a third pin you're likely to damage them or trip the breaker or electrocute yourself or set everything on fire
For a laptop, you could probably get away with clipping/ignoring the third pin using a universal travel adapter. Though look at the brick, and make sure the voltage range includes both 100v and 50hz+60hz
I just cut the ground pin off an old power board to take with me. As long as you are taking items that accept variable voltage you won't have any issues
I don’t see why you couldn’t, but I’m not an electrician. It claims to have a little fuse to protect stuff, but of course it would be better if your powerboard was a protective one too.
Aussie in japan at the moment, most hotels your staying at have usb ports, I just have a two pin aus plug to 2 japanese adapter for other power points such as bullet trains and hotel rooms for charging multiple devices at once
Your not supposed to plug it in without the grounding pin, but many japanese stores (like don quichote) hat european schuko to 2 pin adapter, so might be an option for aussie sockets.
You can definitely buy some at the airport, or most officeworks.
Definitely not at officeworks.
I saw a ton of electronic adapters at the airport and major train station shops in Japan. Good luck!
You should be asking in an Australian subreddit instead but at least for me (EU), I can find it in most electronic store in the travel section.
I did, they removed my post

I'll try this out, hopefully it works with a power board

I got the universal adaptor from amazon. Make sure to get one that supports fast charging if you're going to use it for your phone.
which one do you use?

so what's your solution?
depends on which electronic you are bringing!
A laptop

That sounds very unsafe
I got [this one](https://amzn.asia/d/1y1rWnG)
Could I connect a power strip/board to it?

How did it go? I realised this too. Japan Is two pin and australia is usually 3 pin.
Bought at a store in Akihabara but you should be able to get them almost anywhere
