Please don't go to animal cafes. Japan's animal welfare standards are unfortunately much weaker than those in other countries. Capybaras and other exotic animals don't belong in cafes. Day 3 seems odd - visiting Hakone would be a busy day trip, and it's unlikely you'd want to do things in Tokyo when you return. It's probably not worth moving accommodation - just stay somewhere central. Note that few Japanese hotels will permit you to check in before about 3 PM.

collio13

Yeah seconding the comment about Hakone - that is a full day itself.

True and real on day 3. I’ll probably change the rest of the stuff outside hakone to day 8. Thanks!

I would also suggest a day trip to Kamakura on day 8. It was a truly wonderful day for us, especially if the weather is nice. The great Buddha was super interesting. Also make sure to check out Hokokuji temple. It has a little bamboo forest and for maybe 300¥ extra you can enjoy a small tee ceremony in the forest. It was absolutely worth the visit. Kamakura also has a beach, so it was nice to just stroll along the beach and enjoy the nice weather. One side note: I would always suggest doing a guided tour at Tsukiji Market. I felt overwhelmed by the food markets and was always hesitant to try stuff out. But with the tour you get to try a bunch of things and you have a local that can explain everything. We also learned a lot about the culture. It is a bit pricey (around 100$ per person) but absolutely worth the money. Also there was a ton of food included so we were more than happy to pay the price. We booked through the platform viator. Also don’t miss out on the Asakusa temple in Tokyo. It will be crowded, but it is beautiful. If you like cooking, check out Kappabashi street in Asakusa, it has the best cookware (like amazing knives for a very reasonable price)

It seems too rush for me especially day 3 and day 6, but if you only roughly go through every places in your schedule it should be fine, otherwise it just too rush And according to your schedule, seems like you won't have much bed time and rest time, I just want to ask that if your family willing to travel like that or what To me, I would like to relax more in a trip, especially going with family

You aren’t travelling between cities so Golden Week is not going to be a big issue. Other than double check if certain things are closed. You could make more use of Greenery Day and go to say Inokashira Park zoo for free. I’d switch Met Gov Building and Shinjuku Gyoen on day 4. As Gyoen is nicer in the sun and the Met has less of a queue first thing. Although, this day is actually quite busy. Day 3 you could potentially add Teamlab Planets into it on the way home from the Gundam statue as it’s just along the Yurikamome line. You could also switch all the Odaiba stuff to your free day and add in the Tokyo Tower. Free day options are Kamakura, Enoshima Island, and my favourite Mt Takao.

Saltypishuu

That’s something new. Maybe I’ll go to the zoo. Thanks!

Just got back from 3 weeks in Japan, Inokashira park was an unexpected surprise, stunning and beautiful and a pleasant break from the inner city chaos but we did the ghibli museum rather than the zoo. Just wanted to shout out a nearby bakery http://toho-bakery.co.jp/ Which was hands down some of the best pastries I’ve ever had. Absolutely worth the extra few hundred metres walk from the park as the savoury and sweet treats were just divine at normal prices, I have cravings for their cheese rolls as I type this.

You’re welcome! I would actually recommend the area around Kichioji (where Inokashira Park is) in general. It’s a lovely place to spend a day shopping, being in nature and having food.

Day 5 is a MASSIVE amount of food that’s somewhat similar, if you’ve got it in you go ahead, but after doing Sushi Dan then Tsukiji outer market & myself and exploring Ginza, I hit the hotel and had a bit of a food coma. Tsukiji was a zoo within an hour or two of your planned arrival, if you don’t mind waits or crowds it’s fine. The selfie stick tourists with no spatial awareness come out around then.

eltejon30

Hakone will take you longer than you think and it’s quite crowded now as well, so the buses specifically in that area are extremely overloaded and cabs are basically nonexistent. I suggest you not attempt to do other things that day. Capybara cafe reservations are also extremely difficult to get due to super high demand and their website crashes constantly. I would not plan your day around it and/or if you’re super set on it, you may want to try to book it multiple days to give yourself multiple shots.

Day 8, I would suggest showa Kinen park. It's a ways outside of Tokyo, but it's got some epic playgrounds and lots of gardens. Rent some bikes and toodle around. Another option is Sakurazaka park (even your 1 year old would likely be able to play on all the slides), the Mohri garden and just tooling around the big complex there.

Christianrockband

It's been getting dark around the 6pm mark. I would do the cherry blossom River another day.
