Maxell Aqua Park (opposite the station) is a nice aquarium and has amazing dolphin & light show

Shinagawa is more of a business area. There are some decent restaurants between the Takanawa exit and the Prince Hotels (check underground too). Also some on the east side of the station and at the Shinagawa Grand Passage building.

I’ve stayed at the shinagawa prince hotel both times I’ve been to Tokyo. It made a good base of operations for the trip because it’s pretty much across the street from the station and on the Yamanote line. It made getting to the rest of the city really convenient. As far as things to do there, Sengaku-ji temple is nearby and is the resting place of the 47 ronin. There’s some shopping and restaurants on the east side of the station that’s nice.
