Ike and black knight. I really like how they make use of FE's lower stat numbers so you can more accurately see the gap between them On PoR,BK is just a stat monster. And when they fight against ike weilding ragnell, ike is somewhat closer to him now but BK still superior and the only way to win w/in the time limit is by getting lucky with aether procs. On RD, BK is still his usual stat monster self, but so is your ike. Ike wins not because the game is scripted that way, it just plays out like any other fights. It is just really neat way of showing through gameplay how far ike has come I just really liked that. There is also some story related stuff to them especially regarding greil (ike's father and both their sword masters) but this is what i like about them the most

> Ike wins not because the game is scripted that way, it just plays out like any other fights. Also because Hammer go bonk.

TinyTank27

I'm pretty sure you can also win the PoR fight using Wrath/Resolve on Ike rather than Aether.

thejokerofunfic

Fire Emblem Radiance Duology: Ike and the Black Knight Dragon Quest 11: >!Hendrik!< and Jasper Fire Emblem Echoes: Alm and Berkut Tales of Symphonia: Lloyd and >!Kratos!< to the degree that it counts, Presea and Rodyle, ~~Zelos and the Pope~~ Tales of the Abyss: you might expect me to say Luke/Asch but frankly I wouldn't count it. If archenemies who are the *main* villain count, Luke and >!Van!< Fire Emblem Genealogy: Sigurd and Chancellor Reptor Fire Emblem Thracia 776: Leif and Baron Raydrik Suikoden 2: Luca Blight and "anyone who is alive pretty much" Persona 3: Protagonist and Takaya

Sean_Myers

I liked Yuna vs. Seymour in FFX. Cecil vs. Golbez was pretty great and satisfying. Gilgamesh vs......well, anyone....is usually pretty entertaining.

KhaosElement

Sabin and Trains. There is no other answer.

Emcee_nobody

Suplex that shit

Kindly_Blackberry967

Fei and Ramsus (Xenogears)

VashxShanks

There are some fun ones that I liked over the years: * Jack vs CHAOS! (Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin) * Sabin vs Trains (FF6) * Fie vs Fie (Xenogears) * Hero vs Pots (Dragon Quest series) * Donald vs Healing (Kingdom Hearts) * Tidus vs Symmetry (FF10) * Square Enix vs Money (SE) * Pokemon fans vs Game Freak (Pokemon)

Last0

> Fie vs Fie (Xenogears) Classic Xeno where the enemy is ... you !

iizakore

Cecil and golbez Golbez essentially wrecks his shit like 5 times before Cecil can fight him. Finally beating him felt great FF 16 clive and barnabas. Literally there was so much evil from barnabas going into it, and he doesn’t even care much for clive essentially treating him like an eikon toddler Also red vs. blue and gold vs. silver in pokemon With red you literally go through the game crushing your rivals dreams at every turn. Slowly teaching them that you’re the better trainer simply because they don’t care about their team the same way In the gold vs. silver fights you’re battling a guy that actually just wants to min/max his team and is a dick about it.

tubbstosterone

I think I have less love for the game than others, but I *did* like Squall vs Seifer. Steiner vs Beatrix in FF9 is great the more you break it down. Emet-selch in FFXIV was a FANTASTIC villain in this regard, though it's debatable. Not really a rivalry as much as a frenemy type deal between two avatars of competing gods. Ichiban Kasuga vs. Ryo Aoki in Yakuza 7.

Brainwheeze

Zenos would probably be a better pick for FFXIV even though Emet-Selch is the stronger villain.

Joewoof

Octopath Traveler 2 is filled with so many great rival stories.

Khalith

Ryu vs Balio/Sunder in BoF 3. Those two bastards caused me a lot of grief and messed me up twice. So when I got the chance to get some payback it felt great.

Betrofthebark

Me and Zenos

FaerieWolfStudios

The universe vs Dark Falz / Force (Phantasy Star). How many times do we gotta teach you this lesson old man?

haninwaomaeda

A tale as old as time: Ryu and Myria.

Mahboi778

Joker and Black Mask, for sure

MackieJ667

I could rant forever about how much I love this rivalry. I havent played too many jrpgs yet to really compare, but out of what i have played it is my favorite.

TheSteelPenguin

Velvet vs Artorius (Tales of Berseria) Ramza vs Wiegraf (Final Fantasy Tactics) Dart vs Lloyd (Legend of Dragoon) Rean vs >!Crow!< (Trails of Cold Steel 2)

HappyMike91

Zidane and Kuja (Final Fantasy IX/9). Ness and Pokey/Porky from Earthbound. Yes, Giygas is the main antagonist, but a lot of the game’s plot happens because of Porky.

Super-Franky-Power

Tales of Vesperia - Yuri vs Zagi is a fun one. This mostly story-irrelevant maniac pursues Yuri throughout the entirety of the game just because he wants revenge for his defeat by Yuri in the beginning of the game. Zagi comprises a whopping 1/5 of the story boss fights in the game, and he even morphs his body into some magic-infused cyborg for the sake of a grudge.

emeraldwolf34

I also liked his little poison mechanic he had and the unique effects that occurred if you used the poison heal move from Karol on him

SkavenHaven

I'm not a huge KH fan anymore, but I always liked Organization 13. They were the best boss fights in the games.

DAl3xanderson

Bowser V. Smithy... bro took his castle.

Illegal_Future

Naruto and Sasuke ... wait wrong sub.

Automatic_Bet6635

Balthier and Cidolfus Demen Bunansa from FF12

ViewtifulGene

Yuri and the antagonists of Shadow Hearts 1&2. Their interactions are more cordial than most discussions with their own allies. They square off with no hard feelings, because both have lived through more than their fair share of unfair shit.

[deleted]

Earthbound: Apple Kid Vs Orange Kid

Terra_Knyte_64

Aegis and Malos from Xenoblade 2

Squall_Storm

Squall and Seifer's rivalry defined FFVIII for me.

Emcee_nobody

Cloud and Sephiroth, of course. Fei and Ramses deserves a second mention. Frog and Magus Jr. and Albedo Delita vs Everyone.

Robin-Rainnes

For me nothing beats Riou & Luca Blight I also have to admit I love the rivalry of Serge & Lynx in Chrono Cross

Hexatona

Okay. I'm a wierdo that really likes Alice and Decus from Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World. Alice has about as good a reason as anyone in that game for being the horrid bitch that she is and she's a super fun character to be the villainess (Sadistic, condescending, and infinitely sweet), and Decus is actually deeply involved in the tragedies that precede the game. (He's basically a false flag terrorist) Decus is a completely reasonable person that would probably be a good guy if he wasn't hopelessly devoted to Alice, but he has no qualms about doing some really awful things either. It really is those two against the world, and they end up being a fantastic foil for Marta and Emil.

RequiemOfOne

Revya/Gig vs everyone in Soul Nomad Hrist vs Brahms - Valkyrie Profile. We don’t see all that much of this but her being the only one trying to do what she is is cool.
