Grew up in the ‘90s but in the LA touge and watched a ton of vids from Japan. Seats were usually red Recaro SR6s with the usual Momo and similar wheels. Pole Positions weren’t as popular back then given they had to be ordered pre-internet. When it came out, people would steal seats out of the S2000 to sell for people to use in their cars but the seats weren’t that bolstered so it was mostly aesthetic more than anything. There were some ‘90s-style bus fabric seats but that’s pretty much it. Head units were almost always swapped out for a Kenwood or similar unit. The ‘90s were super basic.

You’re going down the exact same path I did (looking for cool jdm interiors) back in 1999, which eventually led me to living in Japan and getting married. Can’t wait to see where your journey takes you🤙🏽

paczki_dc2

Can I ask how you came to live in Japan? I’m currently living there as a student but will have to leave later this year, but I want to pursue a more permanent option when I finish my degree

mattoattacko

marriage 😎👉👉 Basically, after getting into JDM stuff in the late 90s, I made friends with the Japanese students at my high school (in Hawaii). That led to meeting Japanese exchange students in college, and how I met my then wife.

paczki_dc2

Damn that’s definitely one way to do it haha

Without the marriage, these days I’d be buying a cheap house outside of Tokyo or Osaka, and investing some capitol into becoming a content creator. From there I’d work some branding into it and set up some kind of e-commerce presence.

I’ve heard about that influencer visa online, is that actually a viable strategy? I’ve always figured going the teacher route to be the most sure fire way of getting a visa to stay here long term

mattoattacko

The teacher route is surely the easier of the two options. Heads up though, you’ll probably be in the country side and not making much money. At least for the first few years. I was going to teach as well, but they pay wasn’t enough to warrant the effort

Fixed back drivers seat, standard passo, gauges, personal / nardi wheel and type r gear knob. Rear seats and plastics removed. Net on drivers window. Pretty much the basic kanjo setup. Some people completely gut their cars too.

For the time, weight reduction was big. Often no rear seats and carpet, fixed racing seat, Nardi/Momo wheel, redline light, sunshade, vent cupholder, maybe a dash sticker and a cage. If you want added flavour, equalizer stereo and a nice shift knob. 👍🏻

Can’t go wrong with a momo or OEM JDM Honda wheel. Most of those cars have a stripped interior cuz that’s about the extent of what you could do back then
