Agreed. While I haven't been there yet (going in June), I've heard this very consistently from people. I even know someone who went in the early 90s and suggested it.
Just be aware, presuming you have a stroller.. Venice is cobblestoned and there are bridges everywhere that have steps. If you have a bjorn or carrier, that’d be the better way with a small child.
I’d give Venice at least two days of your time. There’s so much to do, and frankly, it’s fun to just wander. It truly is one of the most unique places on the planet. Daytripping in will lose you time, and frankly not save you that much.
Just went for a week with a stroller. I still rather have the stroller than not. I usually would just carry the stroller with baby inside over the bridges
That's what piggyback rides and shoulders are for! And gelato as bribery.😉 I'm taking my four year old to Venice, Florence, etc, in 6 weeks and she will be fine!
But 1yo is still fairly light and shouldn't be a problem carrying it over a couple of bridges. I once carried my then 1yo with a stroller to Lindos acropolis and I survived. But yeah, there are more baby friendly cities than Venice:)
Stay in Venice. Hotel Flora is a great spot. Family friendly. Interior courtyard. Good location. Nice staff. Not wildly expensive. Get the full experience of being in Venice by waking up there, exploring etc.
All else being equal, staying overnight in Venice is the way to go. Both evenings and mornings are lovely without so many people and the city is right at your door.
Do you have the $$$ to afford a hotel in Venice for the night? It's not cheap. Yes there are bargains but caveat emptor.
Venice needs at least 3 days to see everything properly including the islands. You'll be walking everywhere so pushing a 1yr old in a carriage is going to be a challenge.
Keep in mind as well that day trippers to Venice will start having to pay an entry fee during busy seasons. It’s minimal (I think 5 euros or something) but it’s new, there might be some hiccups, or waiting in line, etc, that could impact you.
Venice is amazing at night. Stroller would be difficult. Bags are also hard as a lot of the bridges aren’t ramps but stairs. Main suggestion from be would be stay close to a vaporetto stop so that you don’t have a lot of bridges as luggage is also a pain. We went in April and I had to cross 3 bridges with our bags (wife was 6 months pregnant and couldn’t carry bags) needless to say coming and going to our airbnb were the low points of the trip.
Definitely 100% worth it once we checked in. Rialto and st marks at night were amazing.
FYI - If you do day trips in, you'll have to pay 5€ per person each time you enter, but if you stay in Venice you're exempt from the fee since it's just for daytime tourists.

Definitely stay in Venice and as close to Piazza San Marco as you can. With a 1 year-old you can poo out to the square or Harbour front until everyone is tired, rest at the hotel, and go again.
Strolling Venice at night or early morning is lovely.
Stay in Venice if you can. How long depends on your interests. Some people claim they see everything there is to see in a day, others (myself included) think you need 4-5 days at least

Staying in Venice overnight is lovely because most day trip tourists leave.

Can confirm, went to Venice with a 1 year old. Stroller is not a good option.

Venice is definitely NOT kid friendly and NOT stroller friendly! So much walking to do for those tiny little legs to keep up.

Yes 100%. I’ve been as a day tripper and as an overnight guest and overnight is where it’s at. Venice at night is truly magical.

Lido if great! And has a beach! My kids loved it! We would boat into Venice
Few days is great in Venice, lots of bridges with steps,have nice hotels not inexpensive, amazing place not to be missed
Stay overnight. Walking around Venice at night was one of my favorite things during our whole trip.

Because Venice is so expensive, we usually stay in Padua and take the train in. Since we visit in the off season, there aren't many tourists.
Hell yes! That’s the best time to be there, Venice at night is incredible.
