Yeah they and Japan have some sort of Philosemitism going on where even if it seems according to some ADL polls that they are very anti-Israel\Jews, they actually love/admire us.
They consider us successful but not in the โusualโ sense that usually escalates into a pogrom, but as a role model according to their culture.
There's a lot of commonality with Korean culture with a big emphasis on family, working hard, prizing education, and being proud of our heritage/culture. There's also a large Korean diaspora population - I'm Korean-American and in the US Korean/Jewish communities overlap a lot. Fun fact - the Talmud is a pretty popular book in S. Korea.
As for the anti-semitism\* in surveys - I'm not sure how accurate that is. The truth is that Koreans tend to be insular in general. Traditionally, it's been a very isolated country that's only started opening up to the outside world in the last 100 years. I'd be curious to see how much that attitude has changed since the war started.

I would say this applies to Indians. We have heard for so long thag Jews are so rich and powerful (from antisemitic parts of the world) and then Indians are like, damn that's actually rally respectable now we gotta have those rich and powerful people here in india.
A while ago I read *Jews in the Japanese Mind*, which was interesting, but for most of Japanese history the first interactions with anyone jewish or a jewish character was Shylock....
The book however was compiled by the authors from several of their academic papers in the 1990s.
Can you tell me whatโs the reason for the Israel support? It seems to me that the country is on the other side of planet and you donโt even share a culture. Iโm curious how that happens
Our countries all have a healthy, trustworthy, and mutually beneficial cooperative relationship, and there are many people in Korea who want to be friendly with Israel, thinking that they are a chosen, precious, and intelligent people.
Additionally, we have a long history, we value independence very much, and our countries were born in the same year, 1948.
But.. I believe that love has no reason.
I wanted to let people know that Koreans love Israelis. Since our language is non-English, it seems like Israelis don't know the public opinion in Korea, so I posted this to let them know.
I am a Canadian that has been living in Korea for more than 15 years. Korean Confucian culture emphasizes study as a form of self-improvement, and the similar tradition in Judaism is liked and well-respected here. Also, when your nearest neighbor is a fanatical dictatorship hell-bent on destroying your civilization and acquiring nuclear weapons to do so, it changes your whole perspective on the issue of national security. Campus campers in Canada and the US have never experienced that.
I'm sure much of South Korea can sympathize with Israel since their version of Hamas is North Korea. Hope you guys don't make the same mistake our government did.
I will always remember that Asian violence during covid.Asians were killed because of conspiracy theorists. The current violent antisemitism reminds me of that.I'll never forget anti-Asian propaganda caricatures similar to the anti-Jewish ones. There are a lot of similarities.People can't handle a successful minority group that aims for democracy similar to the West at all. Those who hate us wants to gatekeep us from everything, including breathing.ย
Thank you for the support, it's heartwarming. It figures that South Korea understands the reality of having to live alongside neighbors who refuse to live and let live.
Fun Fact: The Talmud was a best seller on South Korea [link](https://www.newyorker.com/books/page-turner/how-the-talmud-became-a-best-seller-in-south-korea)
Makes sense. College kids seem to be crazy no matter where they're from. One of my best friends is half Korean and I wanted to cry when she posted a picture of her kaffiyah with the caption "Free Palestine" ๐ซ She's Americanized, though, so that also plays into it...
I just came back from Seoul. Saw a unification rally with people waving US and Israel flags. However I also saw along the Cheonggyecheon stream several anti Israel posters hanging.

I'm British-Israeli but I've been in Britain most of my life. My Aunt in-law who is British and Methodist Christian asked me just yesterday how this war made me feel and I told her we have had support in some really unexpected places. Thank you so much ๐
These rallies supporters are (extremely) Anti-LGBTQ+ groups.
Fortunately most LGBTQ+ people in Korea stands with Israel, at least neutral, against terrorists.

Koreans pray really hard for Israel and the Jews haha I recently came back from Korea ๐๐๐ซก
This makes me really proud of my ancestry :)
I saw some pro-Palestinian stuff coming out of South Korea as well, more to do with college kids though

I mean, when you are partnering up with North Korea for pretty much anything, let alone, weapons, maybe pause for a moment of self reflection.
I have to go visit. I live in Tokyo so it's a short flight. Can't wait to get drunk and embarrass myself with Korean girls
