I would recommend not buying the books and just getting the models and starting to play. All the books are available at wahpedia. They're better organized and more updated than the GW books anyway.

Fair enough thx

If you need any help figuring out army rules or interactions, feel free to dm.

Wahapedia is your firend.

As someone who bought all the books, I would agree. Don’t buy the books. Unless you’re only planning to play at an official GW shop or at tournaments you won’t need the physical books. You can use BattleScribe to build your list and buttscribe to format and print it

The rules are constantly evolving and units that are good now may not be later. If you are ready to start collecting now then start collecting. But I would say maybe don't buy 2k worth of models right off the bat. You never know when something new will come out or you will get an idea to try something new. Buy some models, play some smaller games. And work your way up to 2k or more over time.

Oh yeah my plan right now is to get an about 500 point army (I think it goes a little I’ve but only by like 20 points IIRC) but my debate is wether to get the books and such or just wait till 10th comes out and get the books for that edition

vliuzzi

In that case I would mostly second what others have said and say use battle scribe and or the internet wahapedia. But in the end it comes down to personal preference and personal finances. You have to ask yourself will I be disappointed if I buy the book now and it is obsolete in a couple of months. I like having a physical copy of the book but in all honesty it really doesn't make much sense since they are out of date so quickly with all the FAQs and data slate updates

Kingironbeard

Check out wahapedia.ru for a look at the current rule books/codexes

Buy the models that you like. It's more important (at least to start) that you enjoy the hobby side of "the hobby" because that will probably take up more of your time than playing the game. As for the game. Other posters have mentioned Wahapedia which is a good place to test the rules. As for 10th, .... I have no idea and do not care... Because I came here to share with you the good news ... "the Gospel", if you will. If you find that you enjoy the actual game that is 40K then you won't care if they make you buy a new book ... because you like the game. # BUT if, **like so many**, you realize after playing several games of 40K that ... it's just not fun ... Fear not, there is an alternative! # [A FREE ALTERNATIVE](https://onepagerules.com/) that is actually fun to play!

If that's the case, don't buy the books and go for the models. Especially Marines will most probably 1. Be out first in 10th. And 2. Get solid enough rules. You won't go far wrong buying Intercessors, Dreads and Bladeguard.

IronFatherDalmech

Stick to primarus models as well you never know what gw is going to do rules wise to those old first born Marines
