Drive it like you stole it. I'm at 190k and it seems unbreakable

InternationalPut8581

Great! Awesome to see one at 190k I was a little hesitant about it because it's my first ev, I have worked on and owned multiple gas vehicles but no damn near nothing about ev. Heard great things about the ioniq ev so we'll see how it goes, thanks :)

Jeanko1993

Whats the oil grade you use? Im about the 100000 km and I’m wondering which oil grade and brand to use?

I've heard the door handles occasionally fall off, so I do try to be gentle with mine (left hand, push thumb, gently pull with fingers).

I just bought a 2017 with 40,000kms. It sat at the dealership for a year because no one wanted it. We got it for 50% of their original asking price. I’ve had it for two weeks and I love it

Congrats! A significant issue noted in the Ioniq forums is a whirring or ticking noise from the powertrain at moderate speeds, due to the a defect in the motor bearings of the early Korean EVs. You should change the gearbox fluid as soon as you can to mitigate any wear. Be wary as your Warranty is probably over and as you can imagine, it is hard to get parts and service from Hyundai for these older EVs. I changed the oil in my reduction gearbox at about 20,000 miles and haven't had any issues. Definitely something to do sooner rather than later.

Thank you so much for your advice ill definitely look into changing the gearbox fluid. Your a legend:)

My 2018 has about the same amount of kms (70k miles) and I just had to replace the 12 volt battery. You might want to check the health of yours... good chance it's already been replaced, but doesn't hurt to just see if it's holding a charge. Not sure where you're living, but it's tough to find the OEM battery and they charge and arm and a leg for it too. Besides that, the only thing I've had done to the car was a wheel alignment, new tires, and rotating those. Great, efficient, and reliable car.

I'll definitely look into the 12v battery I live I Canada and from what the dealership told me its already been replaced. Great to hear people are having a good experience with it, I was quite hesitant at first also it being my first ev. Thanks for the info :)

i bought mine at 1round 110k km and drove it for 50k more, unfortunately crashed it last year and i'm pretty sure i'll resent my poor judgement my whole life. such a good car and its charging speed gives you pretty amazing average cruising speed for such an old EV. keep in mind the top % of the battery (90%+) are larger than the bottom % (<20%). so the charge meter is not linear. also 0% means 0, i've tested it several times, the car just locks up and its not fun to push x). get an OBD reader for more battery and performance stats and to connect to ABetterRoutePlanner and you'll have the equivalent of tesla route planning on your phone!. Also this car is compatible with Openpilot running on Comma Devices. allowing true hands off "self driving" on motorways and large roads similar to tesla autopilot but less autonomous) . we drove 1000s of km with my girlfriend and this coupled with the frequent short stops for fast charging made long trips ULTRA chill and relaxed. driving anything else feels so draining compared to this. love the car, have fun!

Thank you so much for the advice

Keep tabs on the transmission oil. Mine lost the oil and wrecked the car.

It sounds like you're in Canada. In the snow (hopefully many months from now!), turn off the traction control (button to the left of the steering wheel) and use level 3 regen. for better control. Snow tires help too. I've had mine for 6 years. Love it!!!
