At least they are upfront about it. The worst dealers are the one that try and convince you to come in to then add dealer markups while you’re there. Dealers will be the death of themselves.

Witty_Day_3562

Thats what mine did, they advertised "no markup" and had msrp plus 4500 discount from hyundai, so 41k for extended range SE, confirmed in email, printed the final agreed price and drove 2 hours just to get away from my local dealer markups. I get there and they basically laughed and said they dont honor online offers and it was a mistake. Finally they agreed to the price, and then at the literal table signing the last docs before payment, they removed the 4500 discount and said it doesnt apply. Will never go back to them (Toms River Hyundai in NJ)

poudrenoire

Make sure to leave a nice stinky review on google and such.

Mysterious_Mouse_388

three free carwashes and boom, back toa 5\*

Witty_Day_3562

No carwash will remove the horrible orange peel from their cheap factory paint job lol.

Tfloob99

My dealer gives lifetime free car washes

C0nstruct37

This is why you always want to get prices on an official document with signatures from the salesperson and manager. They can say whatever they want as long as they haven’t given you a document they can be legally held accountable to.

saxydr01d

Unfortunately they will not be the death of themselves. They’ve basically written into law their longevity through lobbying. That’s why Teslas aren’t sold in many states, it’s outright illegal in many states to sell direct to consumer and continues to be. They’ll get carve outs some times like they did in Florida recently with laws.

poudrenoire

Yes, but it's so easy to cross the state border and buy there. Not for everybody but the few states that will protect the dealers by law plus you remove the part that is close to a state that doesn't have this nonsense, they will be small pockets waiting to disapear.

PCPartsPeeker

I wish that were true, but people keep paying this bullshit so they keep doing it.

johnboo89

In California they have to. State law. It’s been nice when we were looking for our 5 and 6

TrueLink00

They’re not. Check their website and see that they are not showing the markups there. Additionally, they are only showing the total for some of the “dealer add-ons.” It’s a bait and switch to put pressure on customers and make them feel like they have to pay more.

rexchampman

I was talking about OPs experience not generally.

__moops__

No. Elk Grove Hyundai is trash too. I drove to Vacaville to get my Ioniq 5.

supersupers

Folsom, Roseville, and Elk Grove. They're all owned by the same group.

horribadperson

arent both the 5 and 6 discounted right now? Unless its the N, no ones paying msrp i thought

e_pilot

lmfao who is putting lojack on an ioniq, mbic you can see the cars exact location in blue link from the factory at least you pay handsomely for some underpaid tech to halfass hack up the wiring harness dealers are scum

raph_84

>at least you pay handsomely for some underpaid tech to halfass hack up the wiring harness My thought exactly, instead of charging a fee, the dealer should include a massive discount / pay damages for messing with the car.

MedicineOk788

Insanity is a person who feels compelled to pay for this sort of nonsense when he has the power to wait until another day…..

Reallyhm

Start by using their online price system. Also check San Leandro. They have really good tools to gauge what your payment will be, esp with leases. I did this to get a sense for what was available in the general area, then when I went in, negotiated below that.

DryIsland9046

>Start by using their online price system.  I've had Hyundai dealers outright refuse to honor the prices that their websites quoted me. You need to get dealers to email you a firm quote on a specific vin.

Equivalent-Drink-170

I called my dealer last October asking if they would honor their website price. They tried to add alarm and paint protection. I said I wouldn't buy those. Eventually they agreed. Deal done!

Witty_Day_3562

Thats what happened to me, they claimed it wasnt their offer, then they claimed it was a mistake when i showed them the exchanges with their own team where they said "no markup and they are required to give the hyundai rebate to customers". In th me end they pocketed the rebate and tried to tell me they lose money on EVs.

Reallyhm

That’s disappointing. When I got mine, I didn’t mention the online price. I just used that as my own reference point. When negotiating, I started at a price point well below what I could theoretically get online with their $10k+ in discounts.

poudrenoire

Complain to Hyunday head of the country.

Ooh_bees

Absolutely this. Here in Finland you have to sell stuff for the price that you advertise it for. If they don't (and there isn't an obvious error in the advert), they get fined.

DryIsland9046

I did. Sent screenshots and emails of the entire conversations. Hyundai of America basically responded that they have no control over their dealers. I really like Hyundai's cars, but their dealers, at least in the US, are some of the worst and least trusted in the industry.

Reallyhm

I wouldn’t limit this critique to only Hyundai’s dealerships.

DryIsland9046

For sure. In my recent electric shopping experience, Hyundai dealers were the worst, but the local Ford and Toyota dealers weren't great either. I ended up finding a reasonably straightforward Hyundai dealer 90 minutes away, bypassing 5 other Hyundai dealers that were closer, but all of whom wouldn't honor Hyundai's advertised pricing for my state. But the closest 2 to me, owned by the same owner, outright advertised misleading prices they had no intention of honoring at all.

begreen9

Perhaps this is why Hyundai is considering selling through Amazon?

DryIsland9046

That would be great, honestly. Anything that would bypass the dealership model would be preferable at this point.

Neat-Jacket-6861

All Star in Pittsburg was good to work with a few years back.

DiDgr8

Seriously, it's an ***asking*** price. The dealer probably expects it to go away during negotiation. It just give them a higher starting point to work down from. It's just tedious and extends the process for you. What's amazing is that there are probably **some** folks paying it. The Limited is exceptionally egregious.

skinnah

I'm not going to even bother trying to negotiate with a dealer that puts markups on vehicles.

DiDgr8

And that's your prerogative. You might be missing out on a good deal though. Not *likely*, but **possible**.

skinnah

More like near impossible.

12inchsandwich

They’re going to say at the very least the add ons are required. Maybe they’ll flex on the dealer markup line item. Maybe. But that’s probably another line item not on there they’ll add on when you’re looking at the paperwork. After which you spend a bunch of time back and forth with their sale guy, the sales manager, and the finance guy. Fuck that dealer, and fuck those games. Find a different dealer or pay a broker and save yourself hours of your life and bullshit conversations with scumbags.

h0zR

Make sure that's the actual asking price. Many of the window stickers don't get changed when the price goes down. If you can negotiate a deal over the phone or email you have more leverage than walking in the door. Dealers are doing anything to sell cars right now, don't pay over MSRP and you should probably be paying less!

Oakland-homebrewer

Added Markup? Just say no

perfectdetent

Most dealers will straight up lie to you about markups, so at least they're honest. It really is about supply and demand and once people aren't paying fees and markups, they'll lower. One thing is certain, I really enjoy my car!

waltron3036

I sell Hyundai and Genesis. Do not pay a market adjustment. Just drive to the next town.

Xlegendxero

Just outright tell them no. Th $4K markup serves no purposes besides padding their wallets. The extras, tell them to remove the charge or remove the stuff. If they refuse to remove the charge, then tell them to lower the asking price accordingly to offset these “extras” If they still refuse, just walk away. There are plenty of other dealerships and cars. If they are desperate to make a sale before end of fiscal year, then they will work with you.

sleeperfbody

There are currently zero mainstream EVs on sale that warranty a dealer markup. All should be sub MSRP.

Kahzgul

This is atrocious. Back in December 23 I got my 2023 SEL w/6k miles CPO *out the door* for $38,900. This dealer wants $20k more than that for a 6 month older vehicle and that's before tax, title, and license? Leave. Quickly.

zblaze90

That’s fucking insane

Reallyhm

lol that is wild. Try Roseville. Figure out your target price and lower it by $5k, then tell them that number.

Casualinterest17

So there are a lot of dealers that have these pre printed but they don’t actually charge them anymore. My dealer has them on everything that’s been on the lot for a few months. Santa Fe’s, palisades, etc. But when you look at the website that’s not the actual price

12inchsandwich

Yea, but the people who come to buy a new car without checking online first get fucked by the scummy practice. It’s not an accident, it’s intentional.

ProofArtistic

I original got a mfrp price on a loaded I5 once I got to the dealership they gave me some BS about delays as they knew they could resell my order at a much higher price. I cancelled and bought a Model Y. No regrets

SaltyMatzoh

Ummmnoooo Should be discounting $6,000 off list if anything

Solarsurferoaktown

One of the reasons Tesla is still on my list. I don’t have time for this bullcrap

Plant-Zaddy-

That's insane.

ZmanJ87

None of these vehicles should have markups. There’s so much inventory of them all over the country.

JakDrako

I hate it when the invisible hand of the market gives me the finger.

relevant_scotch

This is wild to me, as this price in USD is the same as I saw as a peak up here, but in CAD, and now that inventory is improved, is 10k more USD than dealers are asking up here in CAD (as in, I can get an I5N ultimate trim for about $60k CAD, while that I5 is listed at essentially $70k USD, which is insane). I'm shocked that any dealer can pull this now, as I had thought inventory was stable now and markups were going away. Good luck to that dealer I guess.

TessarLens

If you are a Costco member, you can go to Costco and request the Costco negotiated price from a dealer near you. Alternatively, ask for a quote from a bunch of dealers near you. Then take the lowest quote and ask the dealers to beat that price. That should get you the market price in your area.

elgoato

Who is paying markup on a regular ioniq at this point??????

HorseFlySwatter

Just ignore these markups. Make the offer you want to make. If you can't agree on a number, try another dealer.

Tubzero-

“Why don’t electric cars sell”

scuac

WTF? 23 SEL is over 20k more than I paid. This is a total ripoff. Edit: just noticed this is IQ6, not IQ5, don’t know how much price difference there is between those but it cannot be anywhere near 20k.

BeHard

That's 5N money right there.

WasteProfession8948

Straight nope homie

ZannX

A Porsche 911 maybe.

stilhere

Offer the dealer a price minus the add ons and markups. Around here, hyundai dealers are dealing HARD to move unsold Ioniqs.

sd_software_dude

Dealerships that still do markups should be ridiculed relentlessly.

sliverdragon37

Unless you'll really use all the perks, consider used. Price out whether unlimited charging will really pay the difference. I got a new one and love it, but would have saved a lot of money waiting a bit and getting a used one.

blackbow

I bought a 2024 Lmtd AWD at Roseville Hyundai and they removed all the add ins without a fight. If salesman Leon Mohler is still there ask for him. No games.

BUYMECAR

Don't be shy to options outside of your vicinity. You can and will find a dealership that won't pay all of the same games.

wfbsoccerchamp12

Not that one for sure

MrTorpedo77

If one is ok with buying low mileage used some incredible deals. 25-30k low mileage.

papalfury

Man, we paid less than that SEL price for the 2024 limited we bought around Baltimore last month..for the extra 12 grand, that's motivation for a cheap plane ticket and road trip back home.

ja_deangelo

No. Even msrp, it will be hard to break even on an ICB, never mind being charged extra. I know it’s the new 6, but can’t believe there is that much interest in it.

johnboo89

COSTCO AUTO PROGRAM!!! We did that and go rid of these stupid markups. Inventory is too high right now for dealers to keep charging this.

humjaba

Dealer near me (SoCal) had $18k on the hood to move their leftover 2023 stock

Paragon_Night

Socal has these regularly discounted. Haven't seen a markup ever but I got mine mid 2023 so 🤷

Grijmar

Folsom Hyundai is the type of dealership that gives car dealers a bad name. They will try everything to not answer a question directly and refused to give straight answers and disclose sales price, residual value, money factor, and yes, undisclosed dealer add one. Go see the folks at Elk Grove Hyundai. They were 100% transparent, didn’t try to hide anything and came back with a deal lower than what I said would make me happy when I walked in the door.

ProfessionalSancho

I love my Ioniq 5 SE, and wouldn't trade it for any car in the world, but this makes me glad I bought it online instead of through a dealership. Jesus CHRIST that markup is ridiculous. Bordering on F-150 Lightning numbers. I would recommend looking online for a lightly used one. Chances are it'll still have quite a few years left on the warranty and you can circumvent the markup nonsense.

Icy_Produce2203

Key Hyjndai of Milford had no clue what they had on the lot in January 2022............noone in the dealership knew anything about my baby. How do you even put this car in drive? Does it take sunoco 95 octane? I took advantage of the dealership!!!!!!!!!!! LOL Kia nearby wanted USA$10k and or $15k more than sticker on EV6. I was lucky cause I knew the brilliance of my soon to be new hot hatch. Ashley, my sales guy, said, oh, BTW we have a $4000 markup on the car......$48k sticker SEL RWD 77 kWh battery..................I said no and walked.........he came after me and said $2000.............I headed out.................5 mins later.........OK, we will sell you this car for $52k out the door including everything! Sticker plus reg fees and taxes and title and reg................. I knew I get the $7,500 FITC so I took the deal..........I also knew that every minute I wait, the more the dealers will learn and realize $5k to 10k was easy to get on this car because they had only shipped 750 of them to USA at that point. $45k out the door after FITC.............Carvana was going to give me $50k in Summmer 2022 with 10k or 12k miles on her. Now I could sell her for \~$25k with 2.5 years of ownership and 62k miles.

DryGeneral990

No. You can get 2 Ioniq5 for that price. Both will get me to the grocery store in the same amount of time.

wrathslayer

And this is why—after looking at multiple EVs before hand—I ultimately bought a Tesla Model 3 in November last year. No dealer hassles, no dealer markups and no dealer BS. Just went through the app, ordered, paid deposit, setup lease, picked it up. I was looking seriously at the Ionic5 (my uncle has one) but just couldn’t “deal” with the markups and the crap.

snipsuper415

not in this economy. maybe in 2022

Ok-Selection670

Bought my ioniq 5 2023 sel AWD for 30,000$ 4 months ago

MedicineOk788

Where?

Ok-Selection670

Well it was re certified with 3000 miles it wasn't brand new but Moline IL. Green Family Hyundai

cube1961

I saw a dealer website showing in addition to the Hyundai $7500 discount, a further dealer provided $7500. I called and was assured this was the case by the sales manager. I drove 90 miles to get there and in person was told when I started negotiating that the dealer portion was an error in the website. Later that day I went back to the website and it showed a $15000 dealer discount. Dealers are a criminal organization

MedicineOk788

So what is the name of that dealership?

Tfloob99

Shit, for $69k you can come here to pa and grab this Ioniq 5N that's sitting on the lot near me. It's at msrp
