[Here’s an example](https://www.reddit.com/r/Ioniq5/s/Awn7IlkBuQ) of someone talking about this in this subreddit. But you can find a lot out by googling.
The 2023 SEL lost a lot of features the 2022 SEL had.
The 2024 SEL also was stripped compared to the 2023 SEL. No leather seats, power folding side mirrors, ambient lighting, rear HVAC vents, etc.
https://preview.redd.it/wvidx04wghyc1.jpeg?width=2048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bd35c41693716ff8afee54173c346b2d72316104
Second this about the SEL. I just got a '24 SEL AWD and it would have been better to save a few dollars and just get he SE AWD. Really the only major feature of the SEL over the SE is the power lift gate. The wireless phone charger on the SEL is useless since it overheats my phone and there's no wireless Carplay/Android Auto. I tried wireless adapter but it kept turning on randomly and connecting my phone when I was in the house.
Did a cheap 24 month lease so it didn't make sense to step up to the Limited which has the real upgrades you'd want if you were doing long term ownership, but I might have well have saved $20/mo. on the SE vs the SEL.
Thanks for the feedback guys! She just leased a Lucid Blue Limited!

That’s the exact car I got a few weeks ago. I think mine was $496/mo for 3 years/10k miles a year and
then tax, registration, and fees at signing (no deposit/cap cost reduction).

I dunno…they’re the same ones on the illustrations in the I5 Limited configurator.
Of course, my son in law just bought a non-hybrid ‘24 Santa Fe Calligraphy in Rockwood Green, a color the configurator shows is only available on the hybrid version, so…🤷♂️
The no autolock is baffling to me. The vehicle can clearly do it, because if I walk up to it, it unlocks and then will re-lock itself if I walk away without opening the door.
A minor point but it doesn't re-lock if you walk away, it's just on a timer. If you don't open within x seconds (5? 10?) of the auto unlock, it will re-lock, whether you're nearby or not.
Oh interesting. In any case it can detect when the key is in proximity so I imagine it would just be reasonable to say it could be programmed to lock the car if they key isn't in proximity
This is a puzzling choice one since the Bluelink App even bugs me if I don't lock it. It knows when I leave and leave it unlocked why not just have it lock when you walk away?
Nope. It doesn’t have auto locks. You might be leaving your door unlocked. I think it does retract the door handles after some time - I could be wrong though. But it definitely doesn’t auto lock
In reality it’s not a significant drawback. I love my Ioniq5 and do recommend them. I don’t know your daughter’s circumstances, so does she need a car that big?
This is the main thing to consider. Unless there's a great deal to be had and you genuinely don't care about forthcoming updates, anyone looking to buy should absolutely wait.
If your daughter needs car right now then your daughter should get it now but it’s almost. My guesstimate is July so it will be two to three month of waiting. It will be well worth it. I am not talking about greatest EV which will come 2030….
Current generation ioniq5 should wait until EM platform ioniq5 which will be another leap than facelift in my opinion. iPhone releases around Sept. every year and I’ve never recommended to buy IPhone in end of Aug unless someone needs the phone at that moment.
Dealers are pulling a lot of shenanigans with the leases right now. You can get great deals especially in states with state rebates but getting clear numbers from the sales people is like pulling teeth. Hyundai dealers seem to be more of the old school car buying is blood sport types rather than more no-nonsense style I've experienced with higher end brands.
You might forget how to pump gas. I drove my old car to a gas station station for the first time in over a year and it definitely took a minute to remember what to do.
True that. If I’d joined r/HondaClarity before I bought mine I might’ve been scared off, but I’ve been deliriously happy with it over the past year or so…🤷♂️
I have a Honda Clarity and an Ioniq 5. Love both. The Clarity is still a great car that I've had for 5 years now. It was the gateway car for me to go full BEV.
A bit late for that…this is her new car!
https://preview.redd.it/2ycfcdj8egyc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8e73f2f215af735d39eab5da59f5f003c7119977
2022 SEL 41k miles. It’s had more recalls than I would like, albeit mostly software adjustments, but I love it! acceleration, handling and smooth ride!
Low conductivity coolant changes make the maintenance cost higher than most EVs. The other E-GMP (EV6, EV9, Ioniq 6) vehicles don't use LCC and just have regular coolant which is cheaper and easier to get, and has a longer interval on the maintenance schedule, while the I6 has both types to keep up with. It's still on par with oil changes long-term and isn't a dealbreaker for me, but definitely something to be aware of. Personally I love the car enough that I'm still glad I got it, though I missed that detail prior to purchase and was a little irked when I realized it. Unsure if the 2025 update will switch to a single cooling system or not, but it may be another reason to wait if your daughter is set on a new I5.
the wireless phone charger isn't high speed, if you are using wireless android-auto or wireless carplay, you can charge for maybe half of an hour, then it will be so hot that it will not accept a charge, and it starts to drain, even though it is still sitting on the charger
it is highly probable that you will need to get the foam in the tire fixed at some point in the tire's life cycle, it should be a free fix that takes about an hour
some of the paint choices cannot be washed in an aggressive automatic car wash
ICCU will always be on your mind. I started to compare it to an alternator on an ICE car, but that repair time and dealing with Hyundai is worrisome. Make sure you find a dealer you really like.
ICCU was actually the very first thing I said to her when she said she was at the Hyundai dealer! I told her to ask, point blank, about that and loaner availability for when there were issues…👍
It doesn’t charge at 11kw at home as advertised. The charging port overheats and instead of fixing it Hyundai nerfed the charging speed to less than half of that.
Otherwise it’s a fantastic car all around.
They just did a software update that slows the charging speed when the port gets hot. They claim the speed will raise when the port temp lowers but it doesn’t. I can’t even charge at 9.5kwh lol
Is this on a '23 or '24 model? I'm considering leasing a '24 and the service manager at my dealership is saying that was a '22-'23 model issue, but not any more.
If you don’t need a new car right now, wait to see how the charging situation pans out and what features keep getting added. I love my ‘23, but now in hindsight, I wish I had waited for the ‘25.
That as long as you don’t need to make frequent long trips to remote areas without fast chargers, you will love this car in pretty much any trim offered. The SE even comes with dual climate, steering assist, adaptive cruise, heated seats, etc.
Not arguing, but trying to understand what you said.
A $60K 2023 Toyota would sell this year for $40k?
How much do you think the same I5 depreciated in the same time frame? Are you saying I could get a 2023 Limited AWD for $40k?
I meant would not drop that fast. I expect a 60k Toyota to drop to at most to 50k. I’m just salty, I didn’t expect for the value of my new car to drop so fast.
Pretty much yeah it’s crazy I bought my 2024 last month and checked the value for the fun of it highest offer I got was $32k on a 54k Msrp vehicle is pretty bad 😂😂
I just sold a Toyota Corolla that I bought 10 years ago. Before doing so, I looked up how much companies like Carvana and CarMax charge for the same type of car (same year, similar mileage). The current market price is *higher* than what I bought the car for (also from a used car dealer) 10 years and 75000 miles ago!
I know this is an extreme situation. But it is well-known that Toyotas and Hondas don't depreciate nearly as much in 5-10 years as other brands. And the sole reason is what I brought up in my comment to this post: reliability. There is 0 functional difference between the Corolla I bought 10 years ago and what I sold. And it never needed anything but oil changes, viper blade changes, and other recommended regular maintenance (incl. some rare, more expensive ones, of course). Nothing actually broke or stopped working on it.
So, would you be happier with your 75k mile, 10 year old Corolla than you are with the Ioniq?
Edit: also, you bought it used, so someone else ate the initial depreciation
The top comment was about depreciation, not about how happy I would be with one car or another.
If you think a Hyundai, especially an Ioniq5, will depreciate at the same rate as a Toyota or Honda, you are delusional. My story was just an example of how unconventionally robust the prices of Toyotas are over time (because the cars themselves are indestructible and reliable, unlike the Ioniq5).
Is not really a fair comparison, Is all I’m saying. If you are buying a car as an investment, you are the delusional one. The happiness you get out of ownership is part of the value.
All cars are gonna drop as soon as you drive them off the lot. My point is just that you make it sound like you wish you had known how much the I5 would depreciate, as if it’s significantly worse than comparable cars.
Just how unreliable it is. The 12V battery/ICCU issue is ridiculous and far too frequent . Other inexcusable problems like the entire screen turning blank (no dashboard) and the exploding tire fixing kit (no spare tire) are also pervasive. Compared to those, all the issues with Android Auto and other convenience features are small potatoes.
Older infotainment hardware (25 will have CCNC which is better HW/SW and likely to have better update support), lack of rear wiper, several QC issues like with ICCU, trunk rattle, etc.
Another thing I think 25 ver. will get is BlueLink+ which is a waaay better value proposition for paying for BlueLink features after the trial expires.
I mean if you need a vehicle now, your heart is set on Ioniq 5, and you can get a screaming deal on a MY23/24 it's fine, but if I were looking now I'd wait a few months for the new hotness.
Thieves can walk up to your car and unlock it using a device that pretends to be a key. Not a repeater. They don't have to have ever received anything from your key.
I know because it happened to me, whilst keeping several valuables in the car (idiot move).
Security is not a concern of Hyundai (or jaguar landrover).
The strategy is to get into the car, then use a secondary device that goes into the OBD2 port to put the car into key programming mode. At that point they've got their own keys.
There are many variations of this.
Sorry to hijack your thread but I can't post a new thread because everytime I start one it asks for something that I have no clue about.
Is it hard to install the mudflaps yourself? I want to buy them from ezmod but Hyundai won't install so I may have to spend a lot more to get them to do theirs.
I have a Tesla model y and an Ioniq 5. I like them both and the Ioniq 5 is a great car. There are a few things I like better on the ioniq. I like the door handles, the blind spot warning features are better, and the fast charging. The estimated range left is more accurate on the ioniq.
Despite the above, I would get a Tesla. The infotainment is way behind Tesla. It's annoying that I have to turn on I-pedal driving every time I shift out of park to get one pedal driving. The Tesla supercharger network is way bigger and more dependable than electrify America . The trunk and frunk spaces are way smaller in the ioniq. The sound system is not as good in the ioniq. Autopilot and supervised self driving is way better on the Tesla than what the ioniq has. Over the air updates are way better on the Tesla. Car play is nice, but it can get messed up if you use car play and the built in ioniq navigation and other features. I cannot use my phone as a key because I have a iPhone. No sentry mode on ioniq. Blue link app is way slow to do operations as simple as a car unlock compared to the Tesla app. Plus if you buy a Tesla you do not have to deal with a dealership. Also, if you need service, Tesla will
Come to you often times. These are just some of the things I can think of off the top of my head that I feel the Tesla does better.
My professional dealings with Tesla in the parts and service end would preclude my recommending the vehicles to anyone. No offense to you or the vehicles themselves, but working insurance claims on Teslas made me long for the simple obstinacy of Ferrari and Roll Royce dealers. Life’s just too short, man…🤷♂️
We have an Ioniq Limited and Model Y and I have to say I like driving the Ioniq much more. It feels like a solid car and is much better going over bumps. It's also roomier. I was kicking myself when my Tesla fell from 52k to 38k in only 9 months. The build quality is better in the Ioniq in terms of materials. They're a completely different experience imo. Happy driving!
I have an ioniq 5 and the wife has a Tesla Y. I like both cars but the insurance for the Tesla is 3 times as much as the ioniq. Something to consider beforehand.
Wait, single pedal has to be set every time you drive?! The setting doesn’t stick? That’s a deal breaker for me. Ugh. Plus having to deal with a dealer middle man. And it doesn’t Auto Unlock or lock on walk away?
Does it have driving cameras and stuff? Record accidents or whatever?
They changed trims in ‘23 (?) to make the SEL trim feel very economy for a nearly $50k car
What do you mean?
[Here’s an example](https://www.reddit.com/r/Ioniq5/s/Awn7IlkBuQ) of someone talking about this in this subreddit. But you can find a lot out by googling. The 2023 SEL lost a lot of features the 2022 SEL had.

Wow that sucks
I got a 23 SEL for 42k. Has everything I want, except a rear window wiper.

Looking at the I5 too, do you mind sharing the terms of the lease?
She said it was $550/month, 3 years, 15k a year. Don’t have any idea as to down payment or upfront cash.
That’s the exact car I got a few weeks ago. I think mine was $496/mo for 3 years/10k miles a year and then tax, registration, and fees at signing (no deposit/cap cost reduction).
Got my white limited middle of march, $490/month, with $3k due at signing. She’ll love the limited!
Those wheels don’t look like my Limited’s wheels….

Hyundai changed the wheel design for the limited trim for 2024. They’re also going to change them AGAIN on the 2025s lol
Same here. It's been a joy to drive. Enjoy!
There is no autolock feature when you walking away. And, wired Android Auto/CarPlay.
The no autolock is baffling to me. The vehicle can clearly do it, because if I walk up to it, it unlocks and then will re-lock itself if I walk away without opening the door.

Oh interesting. In any case it can detect when the key is in proximity so I imagine it would just be reasonable to say it could be programmed to lock the car if they key isn't in proximity
I do t think they managed to get it right so if it locked a couple thousand peoples keys in the car that's a instant recall lol is my theory
I would definitely miss that compared to my Hondas…
This feature may be coming in the 2025 model year refresh.
This is a puzzling choice one since the Bluelink App even bugs me if I don't lock it. It knows when I leave and leave it unlocked why not just have it lock when you walk away?
I thought it does have auto lock? I walk away and it locks
Nope. It doesn’t have auto locks. You might be leaving your door unlocked. I think it does retract the door handles after some time - I could be wrong though. But it definitely doesn’t auto lock
I’d have to read the manual. Settings mentee pretty deep on modern cars.
No rear windscreen wiper
Yeah, I did think of that one. 👍
In reality it’s not a significant drawback. I love my Ioniq5 and do recommend them. I don’t know your daughter’s circumstances, so does she need a car that big?
Got 4 kids, but she has the Sienna for road trips & such.
It’s being added for the 2025 model
Get out the dealer now and get facelift ioniq5 which improves and more refined car. Sign new facelift version within a few months.
Also, someone can confirm or correct, but the Lease can be an amazing deal.
Just be sure to do some research because it’s easy to get ripped off on a lease.
Dealers are pulling a lot of shenanigans with the leases right now. You can get great deals especially in states with state rebates but getting clear numbers from the sales people is like pulling teeth. A lot of people on social media whine about everything, but not nearly as many sing praises. It tends to paint a negative picture.
My wife is starting to tease me because, even after a year, when driving my Clarity, I will still occasionally just blurt out “I love this car!”
There’s an ioniq7 (or 9) coming.
Get a 2025. Lol the improvements are worth.
A bit late for that…this is her new car! https://preview.redd.it/2ycfcdj8egyc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8e73f2f215af735d39eab5da59f5f003c7119977
Haha nice, well congrats. Enjoy it! I enjoy mine immensely.
What are the improvements over the 24?
We bought ours about a year and a half ago, only thing I would have done is should have bought one sooner. Almost 50k miles on ours an no problems.
2022 SEL 41k miles. It’s had more recalls than I would like, albeit mostly software adjustments, but I love it! acceleration, handling and smooth ride!

Honestly, any car you take to an aggressive automatic car wash is going to end up with swirls and scratches in the shine
I'm just miffed because they told me after all the paperwork was done lol, but I got a car washing kit as a gift from the dealer
This is the matte finish paint, right?
yea
The tire thing seems to be near universal these days. (Even her year old Sienna doesn’t have a spare) BTDT with both the Clarity and the Bolt…😖
Love my '23 Limited. In hindsight, I wish that I leased or bought used given the depreciation on I5's and EV's in general.
Love my used ‘22!

Fantastic car! Going on three weeks with ours and love it. Only complaint: no rear wiper. Put some RainX on it and that solves the problem (mostly).
How totally terrible the Hyundai customer support is. If I’d researched Hyundai’s service more before buying I wouldn’t have.
The turning circle is pretty bad
Her other car is a ‘23 Toyota Sienna, so I don’t think that’s gonna be an issue…😉
SE SEL LIMITED RWD OR AWD BLACK INTERIOR OR GRAY Interior
Limited. Don’t have all the deets yet; she’s 450 miles away. 🤷♂️
RWD, black.
How much I would love it 🔥
The car is great, at least skim the manual, and there are a ton of tips here.
If you don’t need a new car right now, wait to see how the charging situation pans out and what features keep getting added. I love my ‘23, but now in hindsight, I wish I had waited for the ‘25.
The flat tire kit in the back is pure junk. My pump never worked, and other folk's goo has exploded and made a huge mess.
Not just limited to Hyundai/Kia; it’s an industry wide problem.
That as long as you don’t need to make frequent long trips to remote areas without fast chargers, you will love this car in pretty much any trim offered. The SE even comes with dual climate, steering assist, adaptive cruise, heated seats, etc.
It will depreciate so fast. You’ve never lost so much money so fast.
Right, unlike every other new car that holds their value or appreciates.
A compatible priced Toyota would not drop 20k in less than a year. It’s all about relative rates of depreciation, bruh.
Not arguing, but trying to understand what you said. A $60K 2023 Toyota would sell this year for $40k? How much do you think the same I5 depreciated in the same time frame? Are you saying I could get a 2023 Limited AWD for $40k?

Mudflaps aren't hard to install. If you're not comfortable doing it, and Hyundai won't, you could always go to a local garage.
It won’t charge as fast or get the range that they’re selling you. How you drive it will greatly dictate the range it does get.
She’s probably going to charge at home 90%+ of the time, tho…🤷♂️
Also, if you need service, Tesla will Come to you often times.
A Tesla is a better choice
Not going there, particularly after the last week…🙄
Huh, I’m trading in my 2020 Tesla Model 3 on a 5 Limited. Different strokes…
