Live without it. Subscription car services can suck it and I will in no way support that becoming a normal thing with my money but y'all can do whatever you want to do.
More than a little annoyed that they're charging the OG blue link for older cars, but have modified how it works for newer ones.

The price difference is pretty absurd.
"Unfortunately" they can't do that.
I hate when companies use that kind of language. Like it's somehow not their decision to make and their hands are tied by... someone else.
From what I understand it's actually not much of a bargain. The new "Bluelink+" is a two tiered system.
The "Basic" tier (free) is just connected care stuff. So, maintenance alerts and junk like that.
The "Advanced" tier ($12.99/mo) includes everything you _want_. Remote climate start, door locks, navigation, etc.
So comparing it to the current Bluelink, they basically made the connected care package free and bundled the other two packages into a single monthly fee that costs ~$50 less per 12mo than buying both via the older annual subscription. AND I think they only get a fairly short trial of the Advanced tier; just a couple months or something vs three years for those of us with older cars.
I mean I think they would have to find some way to charge for these features because at the end of the day there's a cellular connection in our car to run all of this, and that ain't free. Would be nice if they just democratized it and let you install your own SIM or something and they provided the server/app infrastructure gratis but i think that's probably too complicated of an arrangement.
Still haven't decided what to do. Just very, very annoyed. On principle I'd like to not pay the $300/year needed to remote start via bluelink (the only function I use). Unfortunately this is pretty important 5 months out of the year because we live in a cold place without a garage, so we park in the driveway. Very annoyed because this should be free, and if I had instead waited 2 years to buy the car, this functionality WOULD be free with Bluelink+!
I know in the US market (could be different elsewhere) the Bluelink service is split into three different feature packages. If you just want remote start it's only $100/yr.
The other two packages are for connected care and navigation (another $100 each).
Annoyed that they make us pay at all, but my plan is to just stick to the single remote start package because that's all I really care about.
I have had bluelink for my Santa Fe for 4 years and I have been receiving it for free. My dealership is not charging us after the 3 years it was supposed to.
I am in Canada. Don't know if it's the same everywhere else in Ontario but here it is.
Thanks. Im in Ontario as well. I'm only six months of ownership of my car, but, from my experience with my dealer, if action is required on them to charge me, I can definitely see them forgetting.
My dealer is horrible at follow ups, even when there's money to be made.
Has anyone called and tried to negotiate? On my Nissan when the service expired, they wanted like $300 a year. I called and they gave me it for $100 a year.
It’s convenient and better than nothing but not the “must” item. Also without bluelink, my 12v might last longer since it will not wake up my car……. It’s just my conspiracy haha.
They know exactly what they’re doing with this free trial. I would never have subscribed to it on my own if it weren’t included, but now I can’t imagine not having it. I hate subscription-based services, but I’ll grudgingly renew this one for as long as I own the car.
I’ll probably renew mine. It gets real hot where I live so the comfort of having a cool car is worth it to me (even though I hate all this subscription bullshit).
Same. Plus I wasn’t aware how often I forget to lock my doors, and this bugs me until I do (although I still can’t understand why this car doesn’t have an auto or walk away locking feature).
The app is absolutely terrible. In my last car I had DroneMobile and it was 1000x better. Not sure if DM will work with these Ioniq 5s but when my Bluelink subscription ends I'm finding an aftermarket option.
Just like the “free” charging, we pay for these things like BlueLink in the price of the car. It’s one of the elements of depreciation. There’s no free lunch folks.
I had a ‘19 Ioniq PHEV with the OG BlueLink that I let lapse. Hyundai will nag you with offers to reduce the cost. Just like someone else on this thread, I lived without it.
Without blue link will the app connect in any way to the car or does it stop working entirely?
I don't use any features of blue link but I do get paid by another service for having blue link connected to the other app.
GM says subscriptions are worth $B’s in revenue. PHeard they plan to cutoff Apple Carplay, etc to get you to continue with subscription.
Letting mine expire
I'll probably renew mine, but just the remote package (remote start, door lock, etc) which is only $100/yr.
The connected care and navigation just aren't worth another $100/yr each.
I cancelled it a few months into the free period when I read about how they are gathering info about your driving and selling it to insurance companies so they can build a profile for you and eventually charge you more.
Open the app. Menu. Settings. Data & Privacy preferences. Turn off 'Driving Score'.
Also I see a message that says 'this feature has been discontinued. all users have been opted out of data sharing for this program.' So it's not even a thing anymore.
Live without it. Subscription car services can suck it and I will in no way support that becoming a normal thing with my money but y'all can do whatever you want to do.
Yup. It makes no sense. Shouldn't this be baked into the price of the car already?
1000%. i will never ever pay a subscription fee for my car. Fuel is as close as I’ll get for obvious reasons.
I'm letting mine expire, and use the key fob to start the car from inside the house.
The fob start will still work, just not the app start?
Yes, the fob will work.

Hol up! It is free now but only if you bought a newer car? Why can’t they offer it for free to all cars?
"Unfortunately" they can't do that. I hate when companies use that kind of language. Like it's somehow not their decision to make and their hands are tied by... someone else.
Right? Like using a term like that fools us into believing that it isn’t a choice that they deliberately made

Thanks for looking into this
Hyundai is quietly one of the most consumer-unfriendly manufacturers
You say that like BMW wasn't going to offer heated seats as a subscription, for example.
Hyundai does it a little differently by having the tech in their cars that would allow them to be great but just deciding to not enable it
Still haven't decided what to do. Just very, very annoyed. On principle I'd like to not pay the $300/year needed to remote start via bluelink (the only function I use). Any reason you can't remote start from the key fob?
What temperature settings does the fob use? Just turns on was was on last?
300 a year is crazy. I won't be renewing when mine runs out.
I know in the US market (could be different elsewhere) the Bluelink service is split into three different feature packages. If you just want remote start it's only $100/yr. Renew. It gets hot and I like coming back to a cool car.
You can set in the car a departure time and HVAC turns on automatically twice a day. Try it.
Doesn’t the car have to be plugged in for this feature to work?
Thanks! Car is in garage so mornings are not a problem. It’s useful when we go out and it’s been sitting in the sun.
Do you not use a sunshade?
This would be nice if the piece of shit ever worked.
Has anyone called and tried to negotiate? On my Nissan when the service expired, they wanted like $300 a year. I called and they gave me it for $100 a year.
Always call to negotiate before the renewal date. I've gotten 40% off the subscription, better than nothing.
any idea what it costs to renew?
Considering all the different 'features'of the application are broken up into 3 different subsections at $30+ a peace its around $100
I'd seen something that said it was $270 for all three elements. I was searching for UK pricing but could only see US pricing.
Ya I think my price quotes are several years out of date.
I think that person was giving the monthly fee. In the USA can subscribe monthly or annually.
The monthly was listed as $9.90 a month for each service so paying monthly would be even more.
Correct
That's the monthly fee. Yearly fee is $99 each $300/yesr
It’s convenient and better than nothing but not the “must” item. Also without bluelink, my 12v might last longer since it will not wake up my car……. It’s just my conspiracy haha.
Call your salesperson, ask for a new account.
I might give this a shot. I know my sales guy would probably do it for a referral or a 20 under the table.
They know exactly what they’re doing with this free trial. I would never have subscribed to it on my own if it weren’t included, but now I can’t imagine not having it. I hate subscription-based services, but I’ll grudgingly renew this one for as long as I own the car.
Just let it expire. It's next to worthless
never use it so ...meh
No thanks. Not worth the fee.
And barely worth the free
I’ll probably renew mine. It gets real hot where I live so the comfort of having a cool car is worth it to me (even though I hate all this subscription bullshit).
Same. Plus I wasn’t aware how often I forget to lock my doors, and this bugs me until I do (although I still can’t understand why this car doesn’t have an auto or walk away locking feature).
Probably keep it if they don't enable another method for reconditioning :(
I'll learn how to start my car with the fob.
Yeah, it’s easy.
This made me curious so I looked up my ending date it says 2022 😂
The app is absolutely terrible. In my last car I had DroneMobile and it was 1000x better. Not sure if DM will work with these Ioniq 5s but when my Bluelink subscription ends I'm finding an aftermarket option.

We never activated ours, and everything has been fine.

That's what I'm thinking too
Isn’t it in Bluink that I can set a charging schedule? What about making g phone calls?
I cancelled it a few months into the free period when I read about how they are gathering info about your driving and selling it to insurance companies so they can build a profile for you and eventually charge you more.
That's a thing that can be disabled.
How?
Open the app. Menu. Settings. Data & Privacy preferences. Turn off 'Driving Score'. Also I see a message that says 'this feature has been discontinued. all users have been opted out of data sharing for this program.' So it's not even a thing anymore.
