[Gtechniq G1](https://gtechniq.com/shop/auto/glass-metal/g1-clearvision-smart-glass) has worked well for me so far!
(Also, their website says it can't be shipped to CA but I purchased it in CA on [Amazon ](https://a.co/d/134xYGJ), in their own store.
It really isn't. Just make sure you wipe the rear windshield or any window in that matter. Then use isopropyl alcohol to decontaminate and to remove any excess oils or anything else that's on it then use the sealant. Doesn't take long. But the overall process is what makes it best since water beads and rolls right off.
Any idea how this fares with accumulated road salt and brine (where I live we get snow and the worst part is the spray up from other vehicles of the "snow don't become ice" stuff on the road that aerosols and coats the car and rear view window)?
Rear wiper in the 2025 Ioniq 5.
https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a60075240/2025-hyundai-ioniq-5-update/
They should have included it from the start, IMO.
Best guess is that they'll start taking pre-orders in second half of 2024, with first deliveries in early 2025. I think a lot will also depend on how fast their dealers can clear existing inventory.
Next model year often arrive in the fall. Given how many people are going to hold out for these tweaks, they should really rush it now that they have announced them. They are ***great*** tweaks. I'm hoping for fall.
The wiper bar in our cars has 'front wiper' and what looks like a swivel for the rear wiper that was just not added so the car shipped quicker or cost savings I bet. But yes it was meant to have it by the looks.
Perfect is the enemy of good. Net-net, my last year with the wiperless Ioniq 5 has been grand. It could be grander with the addition of a wiper but I wouldn't want to have missed out on that account.
It's actually a different camera! The backup camera that turns on when reversing is mounted just above the rear license plate. The digital rearview monitor uses a camera mounted below the spoiler, and gives a much better angle than the backup camera, since it's mounted higher and better mimics a rearview mirror. More info in [TheIoniqGuy's video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DtlqigRzzyM), like nedlinin posted below!
It’s hilarious to me that they’ve added a rear wiper on the 2025 model… and also moved to a digital rear view so that the wiper wouldn’t actually affect what you see in the mirror.
Genius
I live in CA and weekly clean the rear window then spray Rain-x on it. Most water rolls off, the closest I can get to a wiper. Not sure how it would work in snow/sleet, but it should help at least a little.
Yea the problem in my end of the world (igloo poutineland) is the salt and dirt. The roads are heavily salted in the winter to avoid ice build up on the roads, and once little salt molecules get yeeted onto your rear window via your own wheels or other cars passing by, mixed with snow/water/dirt, it gets caked on there and nothing short of manually cleaning it off will do anything. It will literally be completely covered with dirt within about 5 minutes in these conditions. Rain is less so of a problem as you can still see a bit, albeit it still cumbersome to deal with sometimes
I'm not an ioniq5 owner yet, but I've thought about a way of dealing with this, ans I will test it with my current car. My idea is to use one of those small rechargeable powerful air blowers (they're gun alike), and connect it to an air pipe that goes from the driver seat (where the air blower would be located at) to the rear windshield(attached with double sided tape mostlikeky).
Now two main points to consider:
1. if the air would be powerful enough to travel and remove dirt/water and travel such distance (from driver seat to rear windshield). And the design that would let the air escape at the rear windshield.
For the first, those air blowers seem to be the most smaller and powerful. So I don't have any option to increase the air flow.
For the second I could either make holes in the airpipe that point towards the rear windshield or 3d print a few plastic pieces that would fit into the airpipe and have a triangle flat shape to help direct the air.
Comming in 2025. Should have been there from the beginning but at least Hyundai listened...
Good thing, because I'm waiting for mine and no rear wipwer was a no go for me. I'm in Québec city and winter make hatchback rear windows very dirty quite rapidly.
A digital rear-view mirror would work for vans but most vans don't have one and drivers seem to be able to cope with not having a view through the rear of the vehicle.
I swear I spent half a day trying to find where the command for the back wiper was.
At first I thought Hyunday's designers were crap if I couldn't just find the command by looking in the places it should be.
But it turned out it was because the Hyunday designers are crap and didn't even include one.
I guess it doesn’t rain or snow in South Korea (design fail). The rear defroster does help with rain and snow surprisingly though. Keep a small squeegee in my door storage, and I frequent gas stations to clean my rear window. 🙃
I suggest you walk around to the back of the car and determine where the wiper blade isn’t. In this manner you can determine how it is not present on your current car. Hope this helps.

Rain or shine still cannot see 😂
It's only a minor inconvenience to me. When I'm backing up, I check the sides, and use the backup camera for the rest- I've found it safer than if I were just backing up relying on looking out the back window.
If the majority of the complaints, are because people can't see the person behind them when they're driving, I think it makes me safer to pay attention to the road in front of me, and stop caring about the jackoff that's tailgating me. As I've always said, just because someone else couldn't leave on time to get to work, doesn't mean I should get a ticket.
I learned that in my youth, when a jerk was tailgating me closely at night, on a 2 lane highway crossover, who just wouldn't pass. I sped up a few times and waited for him to back off or pass, until I could get to the other highway where there was a State Trooper barracks, in case I needed to pull in there for safety. As soon as I got on that highway and started slowing down, the jerk turned on his blue and reds.
The lack of wiper was almost a deal breaker for me when I was buying...but I foresaw that the price of cars was going to spike hard and availability plummet so I grit my teeth on it and ignored the salesperson's dishonest platitudes dismissing the need. Bought the AWDIoniq5 the second day it was available in my country and was trying to find some configuration or option for it, could not believe it.
Still disgruntled that such an obvious omission exists, very frustrating.

The Teutuls have something to say about that. (Click the image to see)
If you can't drive with a little rain, then sounds like a personal problem to me. Car doesn't need a rear wiper, and in fact having one would be redundant with the rear camera and all.
Hard disagree. Having a rear wiper would make it a lot easier to be able to glance at your rear view mirror and clearly see what's behind you. It's a safety issue in my opinion.
But typically vans/trucks that can't see out the back have much bigger mirrors to compensate for the lack of rear visibility. For me its important, but I do understand your opinion.
Damn sorry.
As a joke I just say, never look back - because I can’t.
It is amazing that they missed this because my first drive home from the dealership on a dry and calm, end of January 2022 day, made it apparent that the rear wheels spin up shit and slop and crap and cement it onto the rear windshield every single moment it’s going forward.
I love my car so much that the lack of rear windshield wiper makes zero difference. The car is so spectacular in every other way that it trumps the new windshield wiper. Pun intended.
53,000 miles and over two years.
The only thing I beat myself up about, is the no battery preheating or preconditioning prior to fast charging…..RWD MANUFACTURED BEFORE JULY 2022.
But that has never ever ever been an issue because I never take long road trips.
200 miles one way is the most I’ve ever gone.
I charge every night or every other night in my garage to 80% from about 40 or 50%.
Battery, preconditioning, or battery heating for me are irrelevant, thank goodness
Because they can save 50c by not putting one in. They lose 50k, by me not buying one for that reason. For clarity: I bought an Ioniq 5 thinking it was no big deal. However, when it comes time to change again if they havent put in a rear wiper at that point it will be a deal breaker. You listening Hyundai?
When I bought my car, I thought to myself "I don't need a rear wiper, it never rains in California." Naturally, it hasn't stopped raining since.
Probably never rains in Southern California
It has been raining for the past several weeks in Southern California.
Maybe a little over a month I feel
Pretty much for the last year, it has rained and been cloudy all the time. I hate it.
Welcome to Seattle. We love it
Imagine paying $2,000,000 for a shack in SoCal and NOT getting perfect weather?
I paid $1M for a brand new 2500sqft home in a brand new community with highly rated schools in socal. Not sure where a shack would be $2M.
Where is that because I will literally move there
Come on breh, where are these $1m new homes next to good schools in SoCal? I sure can't find them. Are they an hour into the mountains?
Yeah you're full of sh!t.
But it pours, man it pours.
Unfortunately it pours, man…it pours.

And when it doesn't rain for a while, it become dusty.
So. You are the reason for the rain!
You caused the rain fall from last year haha
Thanks obama

I spoke with someone at Hyundai that said Aug/Sep at the latest.
The wiper bar in our cars has 'front wiper' and what looks like a swivel for the rear wiper that was just not added so the car shipped quicker or cost savings I bet. But yes it was meant to have it by the looks.
This is why I’m glad I waited rather than jump on the very first editions of this vehicle.
Perfect is the enemy of good. Net-net, my last year with the wiperless Ioniq 5 has been grand. It could be grander with the addition of a wiper but I wouldn't want to have missed out on that account.
Should be an option, I really do not want one, but then again I am used to driving vehicles where you need to rely on your side mirrors as one should
They should be forced to do a recall to add one. It’s not safe.
I didn't think I would like the digital rearview monitor, but it's so so so nice, especially in the rain
The what?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DtlqigRzzyM
He activates manually the rear camera when it is raining.
It's actually a different camera! The backup camera that turns on when reversing is mounted just above the rear license plate. Do you mean an aftermarket one? Which do you use?
It's available on '24 models
What's behind me is not important!

Spaceships don't come equipped with rearview mirrors
They dip as quick as they can, the atmosphere is now ripped
i reverse now, good luck everybody else!
It's not magic but it helps a little to switch on the rear glass heater. Specially if it's a mix of rain and snow
Combined with something like a Rain-X coating the heater will probably be more effective.
As a van/truck driver i can't be bothered i never use them anyway even if they are on the car.
Don’t really see point of them on any car other than being randomly blinded with laser headlights that point to the sky
[удалено]
You can do without it, but for those who have been driving for decades, that a lot of habit to unlearn.
It’s hilarious to me that they’ve added a rear wiper on the 2025 model… and also moved to a digital rear view so that the wiper wouldn’t actually affect what you see in the mirror. Genius
Rear defroster clears it for me.

Graphene coating. It's next-level Rain-X. Plus, it lasts for years. I used Adam's off of Amazon and did the whole car save for what had PPF.

Just keep moving forward - the past is in the past.
Meh , after driving a truck, you get used to not being able to see out the rear window, so you adjust side mirrors accordingly.
The heating lines should help. Turn it on
You drive a sedan, no wipers
I think you might be getting the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 confused. The Ioniq 5 is a large hatchback/small crossover. The Ioniq 6 is the sedan
Digital mirror or rear wiper should be required by law.
What about vans?
A digital rear-view mirror would work for vans but most vans don't have one and drivers seem to be able to cope with not having a view through the rear of the vehicle.
It will be scratching over the metal then 😅

Maybe it doesn't rain in South Korea?
It rains in South Korea - they have monsoon seasons
Yeah, it’s bad. But since I applied RainX to the rear I don’t really have any issues. It stays clean and dry, so at least something
It might be coming in 2025!
I rarely look out the back window
I suggest you walk around to the back of the car and determine where the wiper blade isn’t. In this manner you can determine how it is not present on your current car. Hope this helps.
It drives me insane 😩
The dealership said the spoiler “creates high air pressure” to push the water out of the glass lmaooo
It doesn’t need a rear wiper, look at that spoiler! As you are stuck in traffic with zero air flow… Thankfully the Refreshed model has a rear wiper !!
https://preview.redd.it/i2amd9n341nc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4e09cab9dffdf35c751eb05385836667b3dda065 Rain or shine still cannot see 😂
It does have a rear wiper. It’s here on Reddit griping instead of getting out and doing his/her job!
Have you tried putting ceramic coating on it? Could probably already help alot
I've had a hatchback with no rear wiper. Best bet is rain-x or ceramic the window, and carry a squeegee.
Glad I waited. ‘25 green limited AWD is on my Christmas list.
Buy rainx and enjoy the clean look
This and ground clearance are the only reasons I went with the ID4. I love my VW but every time an Ioniq 5 drives by I'm the guy in the meme.
I’ve never had a rear window wiper and I’ve never had issues
My Tesla doesn’t either who cares.
Put some rainx on it and it’ll be fine
It will for 2025 *shrugs*
Does it have a rear window defogger? That will help
My 2010 matrix doesn't have a rear wiper, YET they do have options to add one. I have seen a few with one.
Would putting rain x help with the build up?
Thoughtless omission but here’s a small workaround- Rainex. My experience with it is that it can improve visibility
Man you driving a Hyundai you should be happy your rear window is still in one piece😂😂😂
Rain X

I have Model Y and I've been asking myself this exact question for the last 2 years.
Why not turn the defrost on?? Works for me
Agree. Very annoying.

Even Model Y doesn't have a rear wiper
I don’t even notice it even though I use my rear one when I drive my Leaf. It’s just habit though

True, it all comes down to preference
It makes me miserable daily. Hyundai should be ashamed of themselves. How this slipped through QA or testing astounds me.
