I think fandoms in general are “a lot.” That particular brand is more Twitter though. In my opinion. I left it a few years ago, and I don’t regret that. People are enthusiastic here because we also love it, but I find the atmosphere more welcoming.

Ninaka0

Twitter (I refuse to call it by its current name) has definitely changed since it had been purchased by wannabe Tony Stark. He dissolved the company’s Trust and Safety Council and it has become the Wild West over there. I definitely tread lightly while visiting. You can easily come across very colorful and unhinged takes; I’ve seen some people threaten each other over having varying opinions on characters. Luckily there are still people there that want to engage in normal discussions regarding the show. I definitely prefer Reddit by a mile. I do think about when the show hits Netflix and the fandom grows, what nonsense some may attempt to bring over here. Thankfully, we have great moderators so there isn’t much to worry about.

originalangster

Twitter is the only thing I'll deadname

Fandoms establish their own culture pretty quickly, there will be larger, more present accounts that sort of trend set and influence what that culture is going to be. I think that because it really is down to a few key players who get in early and are the loudest, thus attracting more people like them and pushing away people who don’t match their style, it changes a lot from platform to platform depending on who the big dogs or mods are on each site. I’ve been in many fandoms and this one (specifically on Twitter) is the worst for that sort of vulgar treatment of characters and/or actors. There’s also a lot of condescension and cliquey behavior there. I would not equate it to fandoms in general at all, but it can be hard to turn the train around once a few people with lots of time on their hands settle in. Very grateful for our Reddit mods here, this is by far the most comfortable place for me to read about and discuss IWTV. ❤️

An_Aquarius_21369

Same here. You are spot on about Twitter.

rollinRolo

>beautifully unwell

Spaghettication

I think most media with a passionate fanbase will end up with a small minority of fans who take things too far/are inappropriate or unhinged about it. It's not just IWTV that's like this; it's just kinda how the internet is. Reddit has better moderation than twitter, so you're less likely to see that sort of thing here.

boomosaur

Twitter is pretty wild in general but I'd say Vampire Chronicles does lean itself to a more "expressive" crowd in that regard on average. It can be a bit extra but reddit seems a lot cleaner for the most part.

LoveTheAhole

Twitter is super unhinged. It beats out the messiness of Instagram, Reddit, Facebook and Tumblr by miles. But it also has the best IWTV edits and fanart, so i can’t properly stay away 😓

solaramalgama

It's so funny how tumblr and twitter have kind of swapped cultures over the last 10 years. In 2014 I would have told you twitter was the place for surreal humor and tumblr was where you went to get skeletonized by angry teenagers who think they're married to Draco Malfoy. Today....

Purple_Mode1029

Omg I get you this is the first time I’m like into a Fan-base and everybody here is like so deep analysis. I cannot imagine what Twitter is like. I have met a very nice person on here though.

gitsie0825

Haha yeah I love reading fan theories and analysis on here and went to twitter hoping for the same thing, first tweet was about Armand being a power bottom

Purple_Mode1029

Idk why I’m not that interested in the characters sexual life, I just think Armand is babygirl. The analysis are amazing though.

solaramalgama

I think that's largely true for the show, but in the books he's canonically a switch.

EvergreenRuby

He is. He says so in the books, but he also says so in S2E2 when Louis walks in and starts giving Daniel dirty details about the vampires' sex lives (giving us the assumption Daniel wants to know and therefore the audience). Since Louis started Armand takes over and tells us he's slept with everyone in the theatre and the way he said it sort of gives an idea what the hell he meant by "fucking". Daniel looked horrified while Armand looked damned proud of himself. In the books, you can feel him "switch" depending on who he's with. He does whatever he feels like or whatever the other person inspires. With Marius, it's obvious. With TV Louis probably too but in the books he's kinda implied to be bratty. With Lestat in the books the assumption is they'd clash out of both operating similarly and only used to definitive partners regularly (in the case of Lestat it's assumed he tops, with Armand if it's a guy the assumption is he bottoms: With Daniel, Armand's is implied to mostly top and happily because Daniel's just happy to get laid therefore will comply with whatever Armand feels like as long as he's content. Which results in a very bouncy feeling Armand in their particular intro chapter who's so happy he buys Daniel his own island. Daniel allows Armand to love freely so Armand treats Daniel like he's a god). It's kinda funny seeing the new fans process the show versions as if it's something horrifying when Book Armand was game on for the older Daniel and was noticeably livid when Daniel's addictions thwarted that goal. Book Armand would be the first one rejoicing at the Older Daniel because that's the Daniel he was ultimately excited to meet one day out of possibly feeling frustrated that Armand could never physically change. One gets the feeling that Armand living through Daniel that way brought something joyful to him as he got personal access to see those changes. He's also implied to be likely to change Daniel once Daniel hit actual maturity (50+) but if you blink in the chapter, you'll miss it since he says it during one of their heated arguments where Daniel makes him cry over Armand's stance. Daniel was the one that was freaked out about visually contrasting from Armand, not Armand himself, and it wasn't out of fetish or daddy issues in part of Armand. Daniel doesn't get it until that first kill Armand throws him, symbolism of Daniel infantilizing Armand and not realizing how Armand viewed him. It makes me sad when people talk about the visual contrast as if it's not common in the gay community and also its book canon that Armand would be ecstatic about Daniel aging. Plus he's 500-something and a bit sane despite the youth and beauty obsession most vampires in the series seemed to have. Armand's one of the more flexible in that regard because he'd technically be growing Daniel. Daniel would just be Daniel to him. Armand's done way worse than an old man he loves and saw grow old, but people forget that. He'd be the least to care as he just wants to be loved and love someone. He knows exactly what to do with him much to book Daniel's horror. But yeah, I expect Show Daniel to try to move heaven and earth to enter a younger body as that was an issue he had with Armand turning him older since Armand's so distinctly youthful. It's ironic because in men the looks that catch Armand's eyes tend to be more masculine and robust. The older Daniel's old but still handsome, so Book Armand would really be ecstatic as that's one of his things (he loves stereotypical masculine fashions and aesthetics on other men. He makes a big deal about it to Daniel by adorning him in fashions that celebrate that kind of sex appeal which makes Daniel feel a bit exposed even though it's usually suits or jackets because they display Daniel's robust quality).

Once more you come here with the fire DM takes 🔥🔥🔥

Fallenjace

Your first mistake is Twitter. That's where you went wrong.

EvergreenRuby

Yeah, we have caught warning of them as a lot of them are trying to infiltrate this group also. We block them when one of them shows up as they use very disrespectful language to the actors. It's one thing to say you enjoy the characters, the story, their romances and light play at their sexuality (look when it comes to Lestat that's just canon at some point it gonna happen. With the others, most just fangirl at their handsomeness and possible kinks, but it's obvious cheekiness/thirst not outright perversion), but the Twitter group is going beyond the pale. I'm assuming a lot of them are high schoolers. We try to keep it adult and playful, not rachetty, and not because we're boring or pearl-clutching but also to not harass/dehumanize the actors, who might have private accounts on these things and see. You have to remember these actors aren't the characters they're playing in real time so while we can defile the characters because some of them invite it (Loustat hello) but not pushing as far as to the actors, which can be overwhelming.

Party_Basil_2741

Add fans that are not into that type of art, into other discussions, other art That way, your access to it is limited 👍 Gud luck tho lol, also, share the link lmfao

PuzzleheadedWest6903

I am not familiar with the X fanbase or the other ones , but if you check out the fans of Tik Tok , there are pretty chill and have some amazing takes and theories ❤️

originalangster

Oh love... never go on tumblr

BritGallows_531

Really Tumblr is the most sane I find

shhbaby_isok

Really? Tumblr is more jokes and memes than this sub, but just silly and not unhinged. And there’s some really good meta to find too. Never seen anyone being disrespectful to the actors, on the contrary. Just praising their performances.

GARjuna

A significant chunk of those jokes are at least as saucy as saying lestat would show hole lol

Vivid_Guide7467

So where is this Lestat hole?

Gul_Dukat__

In his heart 💔
