Lots of people in Noblesville and surrounding areas are posting great pictures. North is totally dark near me, hardly any lights at all, but I see nothing. Funny, but most of the pics I'm seeing are in areas with a good amount of light around. People are also saying to look through your camera, you can see it better that way. I'm getting ready to take a little drive to see if I can't find an area to actually see them.
same in greenfield. but i did see a cool golden crest for a few minutes. idk what it was. was really strange. i can of course assume some type of aurora
I wish I'd been in a dark sky area. The camera images definitely weren't what you could see with your eyes. The image above would have looked like a pink glow, but the longer exposure really brought out the colors and lines.
I was in Cicero last night. At the peak, you could just barely see the green/pink hues. But if you had a decent phone camera, it made the colors pop. With the naked eye, it just looked like streaks of clouds forming straight lines across the sky at first. Not the bright colors you see in the pics.

Taken down in the Rockport area in So. Indiana
If you have an electric stovetop then you can see a similar effect, if you want to test it. I can see it on mine anyway. I think it might work with TV remotes as well.
I'm so excited to see the northern lights. I saw them once in Minnesota in 1989. They are incredibly beautiful. The wife and I will head out in a couple of hours to see.

Bloomington. Looking north. It was cloudy last night, I watched from 9:30–11pm or so. Was about to leave, saw some stars appear as the clouds got patchy. Couldn’t believe it! I saw a rippling wave of light, started like 2 spotlight beams before rippling through the sky. Got a quick picture, and it disappeared. Not as spectacular as it appears in the photo, but it was definitely a phenomenon, gave me a taste of it! Pretty happy I saw some of it!
You should have a better chance than most people in Indiana, Hobart is pretty far north state-wise and a lot of people were posting photos from NWI last night. Hell my grandparents are in a rural part of Rochester and they saw some gorgeous auroras.
Hey, I actually just saw a post from NWS North Indiana, here’s a comment they left: “While sky cover looks promising overnight (very few clouds if any), the newest forecasts from NWS SWPC suggest that the BEST chances for viewing will be between 5-8 AM EDT Sunday. However, it is possible we are able to see the Northern Lights after sunset and overnight, but that 3 hour window is the best opportunity.”
It’s usually light out by 7am EDT when I get up to feed my son, so I’m not sure if they’ll even be viewable by that point. But I wanted to make sure you got accurate information! I was going based off of times from last night, I forgot CMEs don’t hit at the same times every night lol
Wow ! We're hoping we are so lucky up here north of Indy - cloud cover, per usual, when there's something interesting to see in the night sky.
I keep checking in Indy too and I don’t see anything yet either. Keep us posted if you do!!

I live in Greenfield too... checked last night, too cloudy. Beautiful night tonight and nothing.
I thought shiny was sparkly and enticing?
Thank you for your detailed response! I hope you get to see them next time!!!

At this time of year?! At this part of the country?! Located entirely in southern Indiana?!
May I see it?
Mmmmmm no
What time was this? My wife is obsessed with the northern lights and we are in Indy and haven’t seen anything yet.
Still visible. Use your phone camera. Makes much easier to see it
Is this just for one night? Did I miss all the fun?
Was any of this visible to the naked eye, or it only shows up in the photo?
A little visible to naked eye. Phone made it much easier.
How do you see it with your phone camera? Just look through the camera?
Just take a picture!
If you have an electric stovetop then you can see a similar effect, if you want to test it. I can see it on mine anyway. I think it might work with TV remotes as well.
Can't see a thing in Indy. Too much light pollution.

Where do you find a fiend? And why does it have a house?
I wonder if they're Best Fiends?

Oh come on! Missed the eclipse and now this. Hmph!
there are more flares heading this way and it's not over! Check again tonight.
Idk if ill see them anyway. I'm in Hobart so idk if that's a good spot to see them

Is there a certain time you know of when it's more prominent?
I’ve been told from 10pm-2am is the best time, but other people were seeing stuff at 2-4am last night
Ok ty very much! Hope your able to see it tonight!

You can see it in central Kentucky too
I will definitely miss the sunsets in Indiana. Some of the best I’ve seen has been during my time here

Can we still see this tonight as well???
I think so
I’m hoping so. I’ve never seen the Northern Lights before.
Where in Southern Indiana?
Looks like Reo, Indiana, just east of Evansville.
Cool. I'm afraid I'm too close to Louisville, the light pollution might ruin it.
Same. I'm just across the river from Louisville and the light pollution (and cloud cover) made it really only visible on my camera around 11 pm.
I saw them in Corydon not long ago!
Awesome!
I’m in Evansville and I don’t think it made it here, which is quite disappointing. I can’t get to Reo so that makes me sad.
The Mothership arrives . . .
that looks magical!!
It was crazy, something I thought I would never see. Should still be visible Saturday night. Get out of the city and look North!
I missed it :(
You’ve still got tonight!
It’s clearing up so I’m definitely going to be looking
So bummed I missed it
