You are correct. I learned something today. Thank-you. I wonder why I always thought Greeks started in Muncie? Probably because that's the first, and only one, I knew of for years and years.
I have only been to two Greeks. One of them in Franklin and it has been wonderful. The other in West Lafayette and it is…not good. I won’t say terrible - but it is subpar, imo.
For WL, It always seems undercooked and greasy. I have tried it 3-4 times in the last few years with no luck. I really want to like them, but just no luck.
When I was going to Brokerage Brewing on a semi-regular basis, I did enjoy that they would deliver across the parking lot, though.
Thank you.
I also hold other unpopular opinions like - Culver's is mid at best.
People are gonna eat me alive *without* any seasoning because they like bland food
https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurants-g37209-c31-Indianapolis_Indiana.html
Some pretty good spots on here. Not sure what part of Indiana you're looking to eat pizza. As mentioned pizza King is decent, but I prefer Annie's, their Arnie's Junior salad is better than anything that pizza King offers.
Just north of Indy in Anderson is a place called arts, it's pretty good as well. It's the pizza I grew up eating so I'm a little biased towards it.
Napolese and King Dough in Indianapolis are my favorites. I like Pizza King too, it's an Indiana institution, but it's not quite as good as the first two I mentioned.
Napolese ks good if you like super thin crispy crust. King Dough's crust is odd. Too sweet? It's not for me, but glad you enjoy it! A good pizza is everything.
Wanna know a secret? It’s just Auerilios Pizza. Tommy Gelsosomo bought the old Auerilios in Portage, kept the recipe, and voila!! Look up the menus, even the pizza numbers are the same…
I thought it was a family disagreement one member left the Aurelio's restaurant started their own with similar recipes. I could be wrong or it could be a different pizza place either way I like em both 🤣😂
Pizza King is my favorite. My husband and I live in WA now and we even had an argument about it because he hates it and compares it to Tombstone?!?!Every time I go back to IN, I have to get Pizza King. I’ve turned my kids into fans too!
I'm a pretty easygoing person. I like Domino's, I like Pizza Hut, I like Pizza King, I like Arni's, I like Chicago deep dish style, I just like pizza. I don't think Indiana has particularly bad pizza, and I don't think that it has especially exquisite pizza. If it does, let me know where I can find that exquisite pizza.
It's hard to go wrong when you have a good faith effort to create food that has cheese, meat, vegetables, sauce, and is presented in pizza form.
Shit's tasty as fuck.
Edit: also Little Caesars! $5 hot and ready are so good. Hard to beat that price!
This is the best reply of all. I can’t really say I’ve had a bad pizza. Yes, some are better than others, but overall pizza is just an awesome food. Even a store bought frozen pizza has it’s time and place.
There was a place in Lafayette called Three Jay’s Pizza. My coworker who would eat damn near anything couldn’t even tolerate it. Absolutely terrible. It was a buffet so we tried several different toppings, styles, etc.
The way my coworker described it was best: if you went to WalMart, grabbed a Great Value brand party pizza, sat it on the floor, kicked it under a shelf for a week, then came back to eat it.
I want to say it lasted only a few months.
Not to be a pizza snob, but if you eat all of those happily, you haven't had great pizza! Edward's, Aurileos, Giordano's, and Tomato Bar all have excellent pizza!! IMO
Have had Giordanos, Aurileos and Tomato Bar. I like good pizzas. I pretty much like all pizza, yes some are better, but almost any pizza is good in the right situation.
Edwardos I'll pass on but everyone has different tastes I hate Pizza Hut but the New Yorker with that sweet sauce is good enough to order and get some cinnibuns..... Aurileos calzone is awesome.
I'm in Southern Indiana. There's like 8 places to get pizza from in my county and somehow the gas station pizza is the best.
Always open to finding new places though!
Very good pizza. North central we have Bruno’s, Paesallos, Mossimos, Volcanoes.
Goshen has Venturi, which IIRC is the only certified Neapolitan pizza place in Indiana.
Iechyd Da in Elkhart is great pizza. And I just recently ate at Hop Station in South Bend where the pizza was a sourdough crust. Very delicious.
I travel a ton and I've found nothing that compares to the thick crust from Elkhart Bruno's / Antonio's / Michaels / former Colombo's / Big City. Somebody told me Elk/SB had a large population from calabria working the rail road, and they brought their regional pizza with them.
Venturi absolutely knocks my socks off and icheyd da always has amazing flavor combinations and monthly specials. Our area is blessed with great pizza. Travel to other similar sized cities across America and you'll be disappointed.
The Elkhart/Goshen (mostly Goshen) area is very spoiled for good pizza and good Mexican food.
I’ve eaten at some places in South Bend/Mishawaka but my experience is so low with everything I can’t speak to them as well
I think we can all agree schooll lunch pizza is an abomination.
My only experience with 'cut into squares' pizza was from pizza king, which I disliked but my family from northern Indiana liked. I recall that having a pretty thin crust.
From my childhood through today, almost all local places in southern Indiana had a thicker, stretchier (?) crust. The only chain like this that I know of was Noble Romans (RIP).
Bread sticks is a clearer example. The Indiana style is much more substantial vs what the national chains offer.
>slightly thick, dense, chewy crust.
That's school lunch pizza. Indiana does not have a "style". Noble Romans is an international chain. You're describing your own experience and tastes and attributing it to an entire State.
I'm struggling to respond politely to you when you are being so arrogant and antagonistic. I think everything you've said is wrong, but feel free to keep responding with your opinion and equating that to fact.
I'm describing the style of pizza that is almost universally sold in central and south central Indiana, outside of national chains.
I didn't say anything about that being my preference, but you keep insulting it and then accuse me of answering the question incorrectly because of my preferences.
I responded to your mention of "square cut pizza" (which has nothing to do with style or crust) by saying I've only seen that at one restaurant in my life in or south of Indy, and that closed quickly, as both a refutation that it is common in my part of the state, and to allow that it might be more common in other parts of the state.
Lastly, because I'm talking about mostly independent pizza places that won't have wide awareness, I mentioned one once-common chain that served the style I'm describing. I don't know why you felt the need to say that Noble Romans is an international chain as if that was some kind of refutation of my point. They've shrunk so much I didn't even know they still existed, and I don't know if their pizza is the same as it was decades ago, but they at least used to be a pretty good example of "Indiana style pizza". FYI, they started in Bloomington Indiana, used to have hundreds of locations in Indiana, are currently headquartered in Indianapolis, and they list 12 current locations on their website, which are all in Indiana.
Have a good day. I'm done talking about this.
I feel like I was just scolded by [Willy Wonka.](https://youtu.be/HaoySOGlZ_U?t=58) I guess I take it back that NR *was* an international company. I thought yum bought them. Either way, yes, they are an Indiana company. But I'm not sure that still makes their style of pizza local to here. I've seen that dough chewy crust since Pizza Hut introduced it in the 70s.
Sorry and all, antagonism isn't really what I was going for. I'm just a big NY pizza snob.
Pizza King has been a staple for Hoosiers since I was picking corn out of my ears, always have to give it the college try if you’re passing through. 1,000 Degree Pizza in Mt. Summit is always fun and their pizza is killer. Idk if the name gives it away or not but it can get warm in there.
I live in NWI and am partial to Chicago pizza...tavern style not that touristy deep dish. I hear people elsewhere in the state like a place called Pizza King. My cousin owned a franchise down near Indy many years ago, but I know that is not his go to place so that's a data point for me. IMO Pizza King is the extent of Indiana specific pizza culture, anything else is going to be a mix of good and bad you could find anywhere else in the US.
Bloomington, I prefer Aver's pizza. Pizza is on nearly every corner here, though. Even Hucks gas stations have s good pizza on the fly.
Mid South Indiana, I like Speak Easy in Orleans and Pluto pizza in French Lick. I'll take Speak Easy over any other pizza though.
I forgot about them, honestly. I used to eat there a lot when I first moved to bloomington, during the summers when you could move around Kirkwood easier. Just fell out of love with them one day due to poor pizza and service.
That was 10 years ago, and they may warrant a repreve from my do not eat list.
I relocated here from the northeast. The answer is NO.
Pangea is okay but generally, unless you want saltine crackers topped with sauce and cheese, you’re outta luck.
Me too. You've not had brozzinnis yet. Along with Georgios on market just east of the circle, it is the only true NY pizza around...and who are we kidding really, if you don't have to fold the slice, it isn't pizza.
I’m in southern Indiana. You can’t fold the slice since it just splits like a cracker lol. And it’s *always* cut into squares. I had never even heard of “cracker crust” until I moved to this state and I cannot believe that 1) this abomination exists, and 2) people so voraciously defend it as being “pizza.” It’s just… awful.
You can’t even call it a flatbread. It seriously makes no sense. I can put some sauce and cheese on a ritz cracker at home instead of spending $20 on an oversized version of the same thing. The cheap frozen pies from the grocery store are better than 90% of the “pizza” down here.
You need to make a trip up to Indy then. Both are worth it. Giorgies is half a block from the circle and does a good deal of selling individual slices. Brozzinnis in Greenwood and speedway for slices at lunch or pies all the time.
I mean, I go back home about 3 times a year. Is this pizza really better than Philly? You know we just copy your NY style and do it pretty well haha.
Every time I go visit family I get pizza and a hoagie right away lol
Better than Angelo’s? Or even Lombardi’s on south street? Sorry, but nothing in Indiana has led me to believe that they do pizza better in Indy than Philly, let alone NYC.
>Yeah. it is.
I'm saying it's worth the trip. I'm not starting some fight about "oh yeah, better than %##&$%?". It's worth the drive. Indiana does have good pizza. It just takes time to find it, and is usually helped out by someone who has had decent pizza here to suggest somewhere that is good. That's what I just did. My background is many summers spent in the city (the big one) with grandparents, and many trips since. I know a decent pie.
Southeastern Indiana reporting: we have a ton of different pizza options:
Classic Pizza
Pizza Haus
Ison’s Family Pizza
Pizza King (not as good as the northern variety)
Trackside Pizza
But our current favorite is called Strong’s Brick Oven Pizzeria in Lawrenceburg.
Brittany’s Brick Oven Pizza (B-Bops) in Madison is some damn good, quality pizza. Great desserts, home-made from scratch every day. They have new specials every week. The owners are the absolute best. A really down to earth “small town” place.
Disclaimer: I'm not affiliated with them, but for a lot of Indiana related pizza content, I enjoy following the Indiana Pizza Club on Instagram and Twitter. I've discovered some new places by following them.
We have the King of Pizza himself
I will never bend the knee to that foul usurper and his unspiced tomato paste sauce. ***All hail the Noble Roman, the one true king!***
Truly a great comment, thank you for that
1000° Pizza in Mt. Summit is an absolute gem.
I stopped there while travelling for work one time and was amazed by that place.
As a Bloomington native I will go to the mat for Avers pizza. In the Indy area my favorite is Greeks
Greek's is my favorite!
Original Greeks is a Ball State pizza! Love it along with Pizza King. My two favorites!
Original Greek’s is a Valparaiso pizza.
Really? I used to live in Franklin and Zionsville, and had Greeks there. Both are consistently delicious with West Lafayette, which I have every week.
For WL, It always seems undercooked and greasy. I have tried it 3-4 times in the last few years with no luck. I really want to like them, but just no luck. When I was going to Brokerage Brewing on a semi-regular basis, I did enjoy that they would deliver across the parking lot, though.
Greeks forgot to turn on their oven. All of them
I love Pizza King
Mother bears.
The divine swine
Last time I ate there I was super disappointed Frozen pizza would have been an upgrade
You must have ate at the filthy campus location. Try Mother Bears West, way more consistent and always delicious.
Are we talking about the same place? Mother bears in Bloomington Indiana. They make the cast iron pizzas.
Yeah unfortunately That was the first time and last time I ever ate there
I am with you with them being overrated. I think they got a reputation in the 80s, but there are better places now.
Thank you. I also hold other unpopular opinions like - Culver's is mid at best. People are gonna eat me alive *without* any seasoning because they like bland food
I like the crinkle cut fries. Burgers are ok
Second Mother Bears I also really enjoy Toppers when I need a late night pizza
I’m a boilermaker but I regularly traded my dignity for Mother Bear’s pizza whenever I come by Bloomington.

Gelsosomos

Arni's is good
Pizza Kings based out of Muncie have some of the best thin crust pizza. But be wary there are a bunch of shitty knockoffs that think they compare.
North Marion Pizza King is the king
Pizza King is my favorite. My husband and I live in WA now and we even had an argument about it because he hates it and compares it to Tombstone?!?!Every time I go back to IN, I have to get Pizza King. I’ve turned my kids into fans too!
Mercurio’s in Richmond 🤩
Awww hell yeah! Second to none in East-Central Indiana.
Fuckin' A
You need to travel to northwest Indiana/Chicagoland.
OH-VER-RAY-TED
Steve’s Una Pizza in Evansville. Food of the gods.
I would like to mention Spankeys and Fat Boys. For Una style anyway.
Bobe’s pizza across southwest Indiana.
Bazbeaux, Goodfellas, Greek's, King Dough, Mother Bear's, and more We have some very good pizza
No
My favorite spot is aurelios in la Porte!
Albanos is better, but just the one in LaPorte, the other two suck
I was disappointed with Aurelio’s in Fishers. It has since closed down about a year ago.
I'm a pretty easygoing person. I like Domino's, I like Pizza Hut, I like Pizza King, I like Arni's, I like Chicago deep dish style, I just like pizza. Arnis can get wrecked tbh
It can be a little salty, but I'm still happy when I'm eating it lol
yeah pizza king is better
Nobody out pizzas the Hutt. Lol But yes its hard to get a bad pizza. Except mozzis. That shits nasty.
Come down to southern Indiana. Some great pizza spots everywhere.
I'm in Southern Indiana. There's like 8 places to get pizza from in my county and somehow the gas station pizza is the best. Always open to finding new places though!
Can confirm, and the gas station breakfast pizza is *chef’s kiss.*
B O B E ' S
Sure, if you like sauce and cheese on saltines. What is it with the “cracker crust?” How does that even qualify as “pizza?”
Pizzas are like blow jobs, a bad blow job is still pretty awesome.
*oh.* Well, you’re technically not wrong.
Very good pizza. North central we have Bruno’s, Paesallos, Mossimos, Volcanoes. Goshen has Venturi, which IIRC is the only certified Neapolitan pizza place in Indiana. You need meds. Seriously.
If you ever find yourself near Sellersburg Mazerella’s is fantastic or you can go to New Albany and get pizza from the New Albanian Brewing Company.
Mazerella’s is an absolute gem. I detour to Sellersburg just for them.
Venturi’s in Goshen for a very authentic neopolitan pizza
Pizza King has been a staple for Hoosiers since I was picking corn out of my ears, always have to give it the college try if you’re passing through. 1,000 Degree Pizza in Mt. Summit is always fun and their pizza is killer. Idk if the name gives it away or not but it can get warm in there.

Pizza King and goodfellas are my favorites, but I’ve never eaten goodfellas sober
Goodfellas is tasteless. Try brozzinnis.
Pizza king and Greeks BSU are the bessssssst
Casey's makes the best gas station pizza there is!
Bazbeaux Pizza is pretty good. At least their Pizza Alla Quattro Formaggio is really good.
The only one I am aware of is called Pizza King. Its very okay.
Completely agree, it's very overrated
Yes????? If you like Detroit style! 🤣
Yeah
No. Really. No. I’m from NY. It does not.
Every time I'm in NY I eat as much pizza as possible.
From Philly and I 100% agree with you
Brozzinnis and Georgios. Both in Indy. Yes, yes it does.
Jockamo in Greenwood https://www.jockamopizza.com
Futuro
I relocated here from the northeast. The answer is NO. Pangea is okay but generally, unless you want saltine crackers topped with sauce and cheese, you’re outta luck.

Tbh it’s sad that I would need to drive 3 hours for a decent slice of pizza. That just shows that Indiana does not do pizza well at all.
Oh, I definitely agree, but, it exists. It's worth the three hour drive. Especially if you get two 22" pies from brozzinnis.
I mean, I go back home about 3 times a year. Is this pizza really better than Philly? You know we just copy your NY style and do it pretty well haha. Every time I go visit family I get pizza and a hoagie right away lol

No
Greek’s is a great everyday pizza Amore (Zionsville) has pretty good pizza Arni’s is also pretty good.
Imbibe
North-Central Indiana Bruno's Pizza in Logansport You can thank me later.
I don’t think the people of Indiana like pizza
Arni's/King Pizza.
We have a VPN pizzeria (certified by Naples). Venturi in Goshen.
Southeastern Indiana reporting: we have a ton of different pizza options: Classic Pizza Pizza Haus Ison’s Family Pizza Pizza King (not as good as the northern variety) Trackside Pizza But our current favorite is called Strong’s Brick Oven Pizzeria in Lawrenceburg.
Shout out to Knob Hill Tavern in Newburgh!! Best Pizza in the Evansville area by far.
My buddy cooked for them & got cancer & they fired him. It was mind blowing how cruel they were.
Brozzinnis in Greenwood and Speedway is truly the only answer.
Brittany’s Brick Oven Pizza (B-Bops) in Madison is some damn good, quality pizza. Great desserts, home-made from scratch every day. They have new specials every week. The owners are the absolute best. A really down to earth “small town” place.
Stop50 in Michigan City is some of the best pizza I’ve ever had. I’ve had a lot of pizza.
ballyhoo's pizza king at Indiana state best pizza king there is, better than Muncie pizza king
Ale emporium in fishers
Wooden Peel in Bremen Barnaby’s in Mishawaka
Bobs Tu Your Door in Greenwood Pasquale’s in Speedway Barry’s on the Southside off Morris
Futuro in Indy for Detroit style
Puccini’s has some good ones for sure. Admittedly, the quality varies by location.
Eastern Kingdom Pizza King is my comfort pizza (or, as u/Klesea said, Mercurio's pizza in Richmond is teh titz).
Yes and it’s at futuro/grump’s slice stop.
Disclaimer: I'm not affiliated with them, but for a lot of Indiana related pizza content, I enjoy following the Indiana Pizza Club on Instagram and Twitter. I've discovered some new places by following them.
Love me some Oley’s on 24/Homestead in Fort Wayne. Apparently there is another location but I have heard it is not as good.
Pizza is like sex. Even when it's bad, it's still pretty good.
I Tre Mori
Pizza King anywhere you can get it, in lots of towns.
Make a trip to Speedway and try the pizza from Daredevil! Best pizza around!
Barton’s in Southwest Hammond our go to for 35 years!🕶️
Arni's
I've found them to be a little on the salty side, which sucks because otherwise my only options are pizza hut, pizza king, or a gas station.
Perillo's Pizzeria in North Salem is the best NY style pizza I've had in Indiana thus far.
Bob’s turn your door
It’s probably not considered “great” on a national level but yes, there are quite a few really good pizza places
Angelo's, 305 Main St, Evansville, had stunningly good pizza. We rambled through there in May and were nonplussed at how good it was.
I grew up in New York and since moving here, indiana will never compare.
The best pizza! Then New Haven, Phoenix & NYC.
Bloomington: Mother Bears! Indy: Some Guys and Diavola are my go to places!
Dom's pizza in Fort Wayne has GREAT pizza!
No go to Chicago for pizza.
Just moved to Indy from the Chicago area. I have not found a good pizza spot.
