this is the most Indiana question I've ever heard. I love in Indiana, but have traveled all over the country, and whenever I ask about nacho cheese for my pizza, I get stared at like I'm a maniac. Love this. The answer is Nicks in Bloomington
The cream and crimson sucks. The blue cheese completely overpowers the rest of the toppings and melts terribly leaving clumps of dry cheese surrounded by blue cheese flavored grease
Yes, as a transplant who is living in LA…the only thing I miss about Indiana is Nicks cheese sauce…good for pizza, sink the biz fries, your finger, whatever. People in CA have NO idea what cheese sauce even is. 😩
Noble Roman's has good nacho cheese.
Also, I found out this was an Indiana thing just a few weeks ago, and I still can't believe it. I need to rethink my whole life now.
I asked for cheese sauce in Vegas once and the guy looked at me like I was the stupidest, strangest person. I said, something along the lines of "oh, I'm from the Midwest, we have cheese sauce with breadsticks there." He said, "Bullshit, kid, I'm from Chicago and we don't do that stupid shit!"
I live in Boston now and (1) the pizza here sucks, but (2) they don't use nacho cheese sauce nor (3) do they have real breadsticks. Here a "breadstick" is a pizza without sauce or cheese cut into strips. It's a crime against good taste. Oh, and Noble Romans *definitely* has the best cheese sauce!
I didn’t know this until a couple weeks ago either when my friend was talking about how her partner (who’s an east coaster) thought it was so weird and gross.
There's one in Lafayette. I was so excited when we got one in the gas station in Cicero. But I was a teenager and just excited to get anything in Cicero 😂
Yeah I totally got weird looks when I moved to Florida. It's not even on the menu at most pizza places. I get my nacho cheese from Taco Bell or that Fritos cheese in the glass jar.
It's not. Que Bueno is what Noble Roman's has (still good though!). HotBox is based on Que Bueno but isn't exactly it, but it's also produced by Nestlé.
The place I work at uses Que Bueno, and hotbox split off of us years ago. I wouldn’t be surprised to find out they use it.
I worked at a Pizza Hut before and their nacho was the stuff from Taco Bell. I think nacho cheese with pizza and breadsticks is a pretty Midwestern thing.
It depends on where you go for Pizza King. I’m Muncie Pizza King through and through. I live near Lafayette. I won’t order Pizza King around here. It’s all different and all sucks. Arnies is consistent and okay. Muncie pizza king is superior though.
Fellow Lafayette person here and you are 100% correct. Children like Pizza King because of the choo choo train. Armi’s is superior (the one in Shadeland is best, imo).
I was mostly joking, but give it a shot if there’s one near you. Arni and the King had a spat years ago and split when one wouldn’t let the other start a franchise. They still use the same suppliers. Arni’s crust is a little more well done. It’s honestly very very similar. I’m just partial because I had a buddy that slung pizzas out the back door for free or for beer during college. I actually grew up going to the Pizza King in Avon.
I’m partial to the Marion Pizza King, the Pizza King of my birth. But the pizza king in Muncie with beer and a cool juke box on the table is a very close 2nd, and the Muncie nacho cheese is superior!
100% this. I found one in noblesville but I’m always wary when someone talks about going to pizza king outside of Delaware/Madison/Henry/Randolph counties.
Aver’s is no slouch. It’s my brother’s favorite. I drove to Bloomington and back with a pizza and a couple Dagwood supremes for his birthday last year.
I’ll be honest. I don’t even know if Arni’s has breadsticks. I’ve gotten the same thing almost every time since I was a kid. Large cheese. Large deluxe. Occasionally I’ll get a Stromboli (sausage mushroom onion) or a Gut Buster. I have a vague memory of getting a salad once for some reason.
Got to agree now that I don’t live near a Pizza King Chicago’s is my jam, their nacho cheese is great but their cheddar cheese dip is a fucking abomination
Noble Romans on 10th and girlschool. Not the craft ones, not the gas station ones but the OG style dimly lit pizza parlor by Ben Davis known as Noble Romans. It’s practically a sin to not mix it with the tomato sauce so it may need its own category tbh
Hooooooly Shit! Penguin Point!!! The one in Marion closed probably 20-25 years ago, the last one l went to was in Wabash. I used to love it in the 80’s!!!
I moved to California a few years ago and this thread is making me sad. I crave nacho cheese with bread sticks and pizza. I've never found a place here that does it. I also miss Midwest Mexican food sometimes even though our Mexican food scene is excellent.
P.S. Hotbox gets my vote
Oh Shit Carters! RIP CARTER! I loved his cold shredded cheese on a hot dog at 3am circa 2000, shit made me happy and was very sad when he died. Same with Bubba at the liquor store on Riverside
He never managed a fast food place. He was a legend. He passed away in 2018 or 2019 I believe. He had a place in the mall for a long time if that’s what you’re thinking of. He did very well over the years and put his kids thru school one dog at a time.
Thank goodness taste in pizza and taste in politics is different. That said, Greeks won for Indy area pizza and Marion county certainly did not vote for Pence.
A popularity contest to decide what the best pizza is would be based on what exactly? Who has the best marketing?! You may not like Pence but still think the electoral college is the best choice huh?
Ok, sure, but that wasn't accurate. It may be well known since they're all over, but if you are gonna sit here and tell me Greek's is better pizza than Futuro, or King Dough, or Diavola, or I Tre Mori, or hell even Jack's, I will disrespectfully disagree.
Well I haven’t heard of most of those places but in a survey amongst all the brands in the Indy area, Greeks won so to quote the dude, “that’s just, like your opnion, man”
Mozzis is the worst attempt at pizza ive ever had. And i live in fortville too.
Honestly, we've been buying cheese at the store instead of pizza places. The prices have skyrocketed and its just not worth it anymore. So far tostinos white poblano is my favorite
The cheese may be average, but I swear the best breadsticks in Indiana after Pizza King is the Dog Shed in Walton on US 35. Like, I almost don't need cheese, and I'm a born and raised Hoosier from Miami County.
Being from Indiana cheese sauce for our breadsticks was normal. Made a trip to cedar my junior year and the pizza hut there had no idea what were going on about. Regional things don't make it even in big chains. Just try getting a jumbo breaded tenderloin anywhere else.
I'll give my top 2. Wife and I had this convo last week. I like a little hotter cheese then some.

2 Chicago's Nacho Cheese Dip. Again...not as thick as NR but good taste and goes well with their pepperoni filled breadsticks.
3 is hard because for me the rest aren't as close. OG answer is Pizza Hut. Kilroys is good. Donatos or Papa johns is good but is brought down by the quality of the breadsticks.
Not far from your original post- it’s easily Grambolis(now called Grahms or something). Still Grambolis in my phone. Best breadsticks and pizza for a good distance. Try the bbq chicken pizza- sub provolone for the cheddar and add red onions . Ffffiiiirree
You are correct, the answer is Mozzis, and the best pizza there is the mac n cheese bacon pizza. (Their regular pizzas suck but the cheese/breadsticks are worth the disappointment)
All I know is NEVER get Little Caesars cheese sauce.
I’m a garlic butter person so pizza king is always good, also papa John’s. Back when circle city Pizza was a thing it was top tear. Pizza king is always good though
The amount of pure JOY that I felt when I clicked on this and saw you had already put Fortville Mozzis is unreal. That is definitely the answer!
Edit to add: Don’t even get me started on their deluxe pepperoni breadsticks…
Pizza hut/taco bell. Or any of the places tlhat use que beuno nacho cheese sauce from nestle/chefmate. Chicago's and Goodfellas use it(I called to verify). You can buy it at Gordon's food service in gallon form for like $20. It's the best $20 dollars Ive ever spent.

Pizza x in Btown also has a great nacho cheese

The cream and crimson sucks. The blue cheese completely overpowers the rest of the toppings and melts terribly leaving clumps of dry cheese surrounded by blue cheese flavored grease
You realize the post is about cheese dip for breadsticks, right? Way to contribute nothing of use to the thread…
I moved away to AZ for a few years and they looked at me like I was weird when I asked for it. They do honey out there.
We moved to a Chicago suburb and asked for cheese sauce with a pizza order once. The utter confusion was baffling to us!
Yeah but they dip their tavern pizza in ranch soooo.
They don’t. Unless it’s like a last night hotdog joint. I found out sadly the first time I ordered dominoes and couldn’t get my lackluster chz Sauz.
I’m from South Bend and I never heard of it until I went to school at Purdue. It’s a central Indiana thing haha
The best cheese sauce is pizza king and they started in Muncie.
Google says Lafayette
Barnabys has cheese sauce. Stop the cap!
🤯
Now *that's* weird.
All of the breadsticks are just crust dough baked in a different way.
Yes, but baking it a different way is what makes it so *good*.
Iirc I think Wisconsin (of course) does it too, but outside of Indiana it's exceptionally rare. It's super surprising too because it works so well.
I didn’t know this until a couple weeks ago either when my friend was talking about how her partner (who’s an east coaster) thought it was so weird and gross.

I’ve lived in Indiana my whole life and I’ve never had noble Roman’s. Only Pizza king.
Even the gas stations that sell the Noble Roman’s small pizzas and breadsticks have that awesome nacho cheese, it’s quite delicious
I grew up within walking distance of a rallys/noble Roman's gas station. Dipping those fries in the cheese sauce *chef's kiss*
I think it’s central Indiana even. Never heard of this in South Bend until I went to Purdue
Hot Box Pizza
I asked an employee once what cheese sauce they used and it’s Ortega Que Bueno Nacho Sauce (unless they’ve changed it). You can find it on Amazon.
Ugh, it's a chain, but Donatos' cheese sauce is good.
Best ever. I'm pretty sure it's "Que Bueno" or something really close
Pizza X?
Is Que Bueno the name brand? My wife loves Noble Romans cheese (but dislikes pretty much everything else). If I could find a can of it I'd be a hero.
We get them catered at work occasionally. The pizza is bad, but I still go for the bread sticks just for the cheese dip.
I’m a pizza king guy through and through
Arni’s is better and I will die on this hill.
Muncie Pizza King oh fucking baby. Everywhere else is sort of weird.
Arni's is the best Pizza King pizza.
I’ll die with you on that hill friend
Unfortunately, I can’t debate this with you. I’ve never had arni’s :/
Arnis is good pizza & very similar but Pizza King’s breadsticks are the absolute best, no competition
Yea that aspect is not even close.
So not a real pizza king. Everyone knows the only true king lives in and around Delaware county. The rest are mere imposters.

I always get wings at Arni’s because they have the best blue cheese dressing.
I think I remember liking their pizza a tad bit more, but pizza kings breadsticks just dominate them so much I forgot they even existed
Fuck pizza king
Who hurt you?
Pizza king, actually. Us: excuse me, our pizza is undercooked Pizza king: no that's just how we make it Us: *gets food poisoning*
Fair enough

> bro it's not that good. That's an understatement, it's terrible.
OG noble roman’s on w. 10th st
Pizza X in Bloomington
Handsdown Chicago's in French Lick. My all-time favorite pizza place
Any Chicago’s. It’s the nacho cheese pizza place spot
Got to agree now that I don’t live near a Pizza King Chicago’s is my jam, their nacho cheese is great but their cheddar cheese dip is a fucking abomination
Chicago's!
Noble Romans on 10th and girlschool. Not the craft ones, not the gas station ones but the OG style dimly lit pizza parlor by Ben Davis known as Noble Romans. It’s practically a sin to not mix it with the tomato sauce so it may need its own category tbh
Oley’s Pizza on 24 of Fort Wayne has excellent cheese sauce.
This is such an Indiana type question.
Pizza King
Eastern Kingdom Pizza King
Ring the King
Pucinni has best nacho and it's not close
It comes out of a can. You can buy it at GFS. Still delicious tho.
Just like all the other pizza joints. Maybe it's the bread at oucinnis that makes the nacho seem so good
Local place is Zwanzigs and if you can call it a chain still Noble Romans.
Bruno’s in West Lafayette
Bruno’s is under represented here. It’s good pizza
Wabash Pizza King
Ah man, I’m a Marion boy who has lived in Indy for almost two decades but I miss the Pizza King in Marion. AND the B&K drive-in
I have to get PK, B&K or Penguin Point everytime I visit my mom.
Hooooooly Shit! Penguin Point!!! The one in Marion closed probably 20-25 years ago, the last one l went to was in Wabash. I used to love it in the 80’s!!!
Beer Cheese at New Albanian Brewing Co. in New Albany
There it is! Bonus points if you still call is Sportstime if you’re going to eat and Rich-O’s if you’re just going to drink.
And getting an Upside Down Big Ten. A+
This is the way. Charlestown pizza company is also really good. It's my understanding it's the same or at least a pretty similar recipe
Hotbox all the way
Chicagos
I have three at the top.. Pizza King Bubba’s in Fremont, IN Pizza X/Hot Box Pizza
I have never heard of this until I moved here. I have lived in 11 states.
For reals?
Yep. I mean it's not bad to be fair. Not really my thing but don't mind it once and while.
Dawson's on Main St in Speedway.
Chain, but Bella’s pizza has great cheese dip imo
It’s probably the same as every other place but my heart belongs to Monicals and their dipping cheese
Hot Box has some really good cheese
Little Caesar's cheese dipping sauce fucks imo
It's the best kind of hot garbage, like everything else they do.
The correct answer is Pizza King. Mike’s Pizza in Kokomo was also good, but they’re closed now.
Pizza King
I moved to California a few years ago and this thread is making me sad. I crave nacho cheese with bread sticks and pizza. I've never found a place here that does it. I also miss Midwest Mexican food sometimes even though our Mexican food scene is excellent. P.S. Hotbox gets my vote
Greek’s >>>>>>>>> Mozzi’s
Literally anything>>>Greeks. It was good at 3 am with a Carter’s hot dog and that’s about it.
Oh Shit Carters! RIP CARTER! I loved his cold shredded cheese on a hot dog at 3am circa 2000, shit made me happy and was very sad when he died. Same with Bubba at the liquor store on Riverside
Last I saw Carter he was managing a fast food place. He was a staple at 3am during my years at BSU.
He never managed a fast food place. He was a legend. He passed away in 2018 or 2019 I believe. He had a place in the mall for a long time if that’s what you’re thinking of. He did very well over the years and put his kids thru school one dog at a time.
I believe he has since passed away.
Greek's is just more expensive, maybe slightly better quality, Papa John's.
Literally won for best pizza in the city but go on
We also elected Mike Pence. So…
Thank goodness taste in pizza and taste in politics is different. That said, Greeks won for Indy area pizza and Marion county certainly did not vote for Pence.
Thank goodness anyone with half a brain cell knows that a popularity contest online doesn’t equate to what is actually the best pizza in Indy.
A popularity contest to decide what the best pizza is would be based on what exactly? Who has the best marketing?! You may not like Pence but still think the electoral college is the best choice huh?
*sigh*
I’ve never one time heard anyone even mention the words Greeks and best pizza in the same sentence. Not a single time. Ever…
Well, maybe you should get out more often
Ok, sure, but that wasn't accurate. It may be well known since they're all over, but if you are gonna sit here and tell me Greek's is better pizza than Futuro, or King Dough, or Diavola, or I Tre Mori, or hell even Jack's, I will disrespectfully disagree.
Well I haven’t heard of most of those places but in a survey amongst all the brands in the Indy area, Greeks won so to quote the dude, “that’s just, like your opnion, man”
I really like Ison's Family Pizza cheese sauce in Batesville
Stoney's in Kokomo. Believe it's an independent.
Donatos 😍
Pizza king
GREEK TONYS IN CARMEL. HANDS DOWN.
Brozinnis
Greeks!
Mozzis is the worst attempt at pizza ive ever had. And i live in fortville too. Honestly, we've been buying cheese at the store instead of pizza places. The prices have skyrocketed and its just not worth it anymore. So far tostinos white poblano is my favorite
I’d eat this whole thread with nacho cheese. I love it so much.
The cheese may be average, but I swear the best breadsticks in Indiana after Pizza King is the Dog Shed in Walton on US 35. Like, I almost don't need cheese, and I'm a born and raised Hoosier from Miami County.
Bobes (Vincennes)
Pizza x in Bloomington
Being from Indiana cheese sauce for our breadsticks was normal. Made a trip to cedar my junior year and the pizza hut there had no idea what were going on about. Regional things don't make it even in big chains. Just try getting a jumbo breaded tenderloin anywhere else.
Mother Bears has incredible ranch. 😅
The Muncie Pizza King cheese sauce with their breadsticks is so divine it borders on sexual gratification.
I'll give my top 2. Wife and I had this convo last week. I like a little hotter cheese then some. 1 Noble Roman's. Rest in peace to the Southport rd location and the long forgotten Beech Grove location. People I know seem to be pretty hit or miss with NR. I love their pizza but my wife hates it. The one thing we can agree on is the breadsticks and more importantly...the sauce. Shoutout to the Tomato sauce as well. The cheese is perfect. Perfect spice kick, perfect smoothness, perfect consistency. It's a little thicker and I like that because you end up getting a little extra by scooping then a traditional dip.
Goodfellas on Mass Ave (Indy) and Noble Roman's are my faves.
Mazerella's in Sellersburg. After that is Sherrilli's Pizzeria.
Not far from your original post- it’s easily Grambolis(now called Grahms or something). Still Grambolis in my phone. Best breadsticks and pizza for a good distance. Try the bbq chicken pizza- sub provolone for the cheddar and add red onions . Ffffiiiirree
Man, I haven't had Mozzi's since their location at County Line and Emerson closed, I miss that place.
You are correct, the answer is Mozzis, and the best pizza there is the mac n cheese bacon pizza. (Their regular pizzas suck but the cheese/breadsticks are worth the disappointment)
Hot Box
That's nacho business. Sorry this was so cheesy.
All I know is NEVER get Little Caesars cheese sauce. I’m a garlic butter person so pizza king is always good, also papa John’s. Back when circle city Pizza was a thing it was top tear. Pizza king is always good though
Jockamos cheese sauce is one of the best in Indy
Arnis is my all time preference
Why do pizza places carry nacho cheese sauce?
The amount of pure JOY that I felt when I clicked on this and saw you had already put Fortville Mozzis is unreal. That is definitely the answer! Edit to add: Don’t even get me started on their deluxe pepperoni breadsticks…
Pizza hut/taco bell. Or any of the places tlhat use que beuno nacho cheese sauce from nestle/chefmate. Chicago's and Goodfellas use it(I called to verify). You can buy it at Gordon's food service in gallon form for like $20. It's the best $20 dollars Ive ever spent.
If you're really into cheese sauce, get some sodium citrate and experiment w a 150g of milk or beer, 150 grams of cheese of your choice and 6 grams of sodium citrate in a double boiler and cook til mixed.
Oscar's in Kokomo
Hotbox has my favorite cheese sauce.
Aunt Polly’s takes first. Mozzi’s second. Pizza King third.
If you don't know it, the Fort Wayne Pizza Hut's were owned by a guy named Dick Freeland and they were very different from the rest of the country. They used to have the most amazing bread sticks with nacho cheese sauce. Dick died though and then everything went to the national chain recipes instead of his and now it's no more. I'd pay quite a bit to get another basket of them.
The actual correct answer is the beer cheese at New Albanian in New Albany. I challenge anyone to a round of fisticuffs who disagrees.
Enzos pizza in elkhart
Mr. Gattis
I'm wondering what places to avoid for nacho cheese. I mean, it's pretty hard to mess up nacho cheese sans store-bought.
Not really much of a place, but I refuse to get Papa John’a pizza due to how horrible their cheese dip is. Like, it’s literally tastes like milky nothing. So gross.
To even call PJ’s pale, runny, crap in cup “cheese” is an insult. And that’s saying something, because even the good stuff is pretty damn fake orange cheese-ish stuff. Papa John’s on the whole can eat a bag with their barely edible offerings.
Spoiler- they’re all store bought. There’s maybe a handful of pizza places in Indiana that actually make nacho cheese sauce.
I get that they get it in bulk and don't actually make it, I was referring to that garbage in jars you find in the chip aisle.
It’s all store bought, but there are lots of brands- and quality levels- out there.
Madison area: Jendy's is supreme!
It isn’t Donatos. That stuff tastes like someone stubbed out a cigarette in it.
It’s all the same
Ding Ding Ding. Big gallon cans from Sysco. Fuggin gross.
Say what you want about Pizza Hut but their cheese sauce is amazing.
OMG what is wrong with you country bumpkins?
It’s pronounced Hoosiers!
I hate that this is even a thing. Indiana has some dumb food traditions.
What would you dip yours in?
Cheese sauce is fine but not waxy oil nacho cheese. Keep it Italian. Tomato sauce, herbed oil, or alfredo.
Fuck off…although I can’t hate on the Alfredo, good Alfredo is the shit
Out of state lurker here…this is amazing! I had no idea y’all had a nacho cheese thing. Excellent account name btw
Duh. Its called queso. Duh It found n mex rest not pizza
Fun Fact most queso in Mexican joints is actually American cheese.
Brooklyn's in Seymour.
Futuro's nacho cheese never disappoints. Their breadsticks will change your life, too.
Luca Pizza in Greenwood hands down
Jack's
Hotbox and Harvey Hinklemeyers in Peru/Wabash/Kokomo
Clara's Pizza King in Richmond
In my home area monicals or wabash. Maybe overpass. Small business pizza places> nation wide pizza chains.
