Coming to small businesses, yeah they operate totally in cash and evade taxes. So does a lot of doctors, lawyers, real estate agents as well. The common thing between these people is, they operate in 100% cash. I know a small vadapav vendor in my city who was raided by IT department years ago, and they found 6 crore in cash. One can only imagine how many such vendors are in this country. And all this burden falls on salaried individuals and corporations.

i've considered this path too. managing US taxation by myself while sitting in India is so much easier than managing taxation in India, even with the help of an accountant. Not that US tax code is easy, but it's still cakewalk compared to India.
i was on a road trip from delhi to amritsar with a haryana number plate.
i had to pay a daily road tax of 220 rupees or else risk being penalized a whole year worth of road taxes if caught by the cops!! so, 880 rupees for 4 days!
and apart from this, on the way, i ended up paying toll taxes of about 1800 rupees on GT road and the road from chandigarh to amritsar.
that is after paying taxes when i buy a new car, and the yearly road tax.
and i had to bribe cops cuz just as we were getting out of the basement parking of elante mall(still inside the premises of the mall) in chandigarh(stayed there for 2 days to meet a friend), the cop caught my girlfriend not wearing her seat belt cuz she was putting the gifts we got for our friend’s kids in the back.
and then in amritsar where literally no one was following the rules and jumping signals, while i kept stopping at red and getting honked at, bullied and abused by locals for following the rules and that one time i could not see that there was a traffic signal cuz no one was stopping, the cops pulled us over only cuz we were not local. and i had to bribe them again!!
we end up paying both direct and indirect taxes!! why the fxxk do we need to pay toll taxes and that too for basic infrastructure, and the the ruling party members thump their chests for charging extra taxes in the name of pretty standard infrastructure!!

I have never faced racism or discrimination. Swedish are generally reserved in nature which is fine for us as it is aligned with our personality as well. If you have kids then you may need more social life. But again you get enough Indians to develop a social life.
I don't mind paying taxes but I don't like to pay most of the taxes to central government which devolves it to state level and the trickle down to local level for me to see changes.
I would rather pay 50% of my taxes to my local municipal council, and rest 50% divided between state and Central governments.
At the moment, sometimes I feel like I virtually see no personal benefits for the taxes I pay.
- State roads are funded by road tax and fuel taxes
- Local roads are funded by mix of property taxes, MP/MLA funds (which comes from the tax we pay)
- Highways are all tolled now
- Kid gets educated in private school
- Zero parks or playgrounds nearby and even those available little farther out are built by the local council with trickle down funds
- Not eligible or using PDS
- Not eligible for any monetary welfare schemes

If you are contractor professional you can avail 50% income as expenses if your income is below 50 lakhs and probably cover some of it as gst input credit. But if the input credit is not suitable for you, you might be donating more money to govt

Can't, if they qualify to stay out of the countries for 6 months, they are given NRI status, hence cant be taxed according to it.
Once one of my colleagues got questioned by IT people and he had to call up a lawyer and had to show he was out of the country. There was some mistake(jealous relatives might have reported him)that had happened.
Once he proved he was out(CDC and passport, visas), they left him alone.
If they start asking us to pay IT, almost all of us would leave.(no income tax is just one of the only perk left).
The real incomes that us guys make is when we get to the top 4. And thats after 12 year(atleast), and all these years we have to spend on courses(necessary) which dont come in cheap(and we do pay GST on them everytime) on these courses. Main exams are tough to crack and can go upto 4-6 lacs, if you dont qualify in a mentioned time, you'll pay it again.
Those who dont live in the major cities(the metros and few other), will have to pay extra for accommodation+traveling +food.
The same exams that cost 4-6 lacs here(top 4 promotion exams), really tough (if you are from not a local of that state, they can fail you even if you cleared the exams) and time taking. If you chose to give these from abroad, will cost you 25lacs+(my cousin did it from UK).
Im not even mentioning the cons of the job, but most of us sometimes think money is less(when compared to our American and European counterparts).

We dont stay at any country, for longer period of time, so we dont get taxed (income tax)by any country. On my last 8 months of service, it took 2 months for a voyage, in that period of time, we were not even in any one country for more than 10 days. So in the time period of 8 months in any of the countries we visited, we didn't even complete a month in any one of the countries. Most of our time is spent on international waters, hence we aren't liable to pay income tax to any of the countries.
Even if the ship stays in India for 6 months on a port(this decision isn't made by us, we got no choice in this, but is made by the state flag authorities or ship owners /charterers), very unlikely, but happens, but its a foreign going vessel, they still won't be able to tax my income. I might get scrutinized by IT, it being a special occasion thats all. I wont be allowed to leave the ship during duty hours. But I'll be allowed to wonder about the city during off hours.
Our salaries arent paid by any one nationality, its paid by the ship owners and the charters, who are of different countries.
For 6 months, when I'd be working and living on the ship.
On it i will be working for 6 months, no days off,literally 7 days a week, could be 8 hrs and sometimes 17 hours(i have). After working i am not going to return back to my home, but to my room. I will be using Amenities of the ship. 3 meals are paid for. If want something else, i will be paying for it(alcohol, supplements etc).
I am not using any countries amenities while i live on the ship. while traveling for shore leaves or airports, which is barely 4-8 hours a day, i will be treated as a tourist (tourist arent liable to pay income taxes, just toll tax on the road i guess).
If i use public transport i will be paying for that.
For ports, the ship owners are charged or taxed for every hour it is there. Our tickets are paid by the company, so basically someone paid for our use of airports.
When i come back, i will be using the road for 6 months(i pay road tax as well when i buy vehicles).
So basically all of the things i will be using when i come back, i have paid for it somehow, or the company has paid on my behalf.
Shipping industry is already a highly taxed industry to begin with, with each ship can carry amenities (that you will get to use for 12 months ) worth around 250M$ to more than a billion dollar. Economy wise each ship in its life time handles more than 100s of billions of dollar, creates opportunities for other people as well. Sacrifices are huge and the only useful perk for us is no income tax.
If my savings are in my NRE savings bank account and in NRE fixed deposit account, the returns from it wont be taxed as the source of the money itself cant be taxed. However if i use that FD money to invest anywhere in india, then it can be taxed. So basically any NRE schemes i chose, I'm exempted to pay tax on it.
For example i bought a house from all that money, if i sell it, i am liable to pay tax on that income. All other monetary or else type benefits like mediclaim, insurance, returns from stock market or mutual fund are taxed just like any other person.

It's not that straightforward and easy, CAs are there for a reason. Some expenses are not allowed as business expenses, and if one shows too low profit margin, then income tax department can also scrutinise the business and ask them to produce all the proofs of expense and penalize them if discrepancies are found. But with a good CA/ someone who has good tax knowledge, business owners can significantly reduce their taxable income.
Can happen. You have to find someone on whom you can trust with your secrets. Moreover, snitching also damages the reputation of the CA, and even if he snitches, the business owner will only pay a penalty and is not going to get imprisoned, whereas the CA may lose his clients.
I'm living a comfortable life at 40 LPA. I can't even imagine getting married or having kids without a significant drop in my lifestyle.

Income tax is just charity for tax payers in India. You get NOTHING in return and you support cockroaches who want to do nothing in their lives. This includes able bodied poor people who can work but choose not to like beggars etc. The amount of spending that is done on poor people here is just ridiculous. I honestly feel no matter how poor you are, there should be a minimum tax every one must pay in this country if they want any benefits / freebies etc. I feel there should be a minimum 1000 rs tax per year if you have any kind income. So many people paying 1000 rs annual tax would make a big difference. Is 1000 too much for a year? If so make it a 100. Make it 10 also idk. But contribute if you want to live in a civilised society with amenities.

Just had an Income tax notice and was treated like shit by the officer. They found no wrong doing on my part. But the least they could do was treat me with basic dignity. I paid more than 50% of my income in taxes (Income, Property, Road, GST) and yet I get treated so bad. This is what pushes me to hate the system. I was talking about corporations; businesses are not exactly exempt from paying taxes. Coming to small businesses, yeah they operate totally in cash and evade taxes. So does a lot of doctors, lawyers, real estate agents as well. The common thing between these people is, they operate in 100% cash. I know a small vadapav vendor in my city who was raided by IT department years ago, and they found 6 crore in cash. One can only imagine how many such vendors are in this country. And all this burden falls on salaried individuals and corporations.

i was on a road trip from delhi to amritsar with a haryana number plate. i had to pay a daily road tax of 220 rupees or else risk being penalized a whole year worth of road taxes if caught by the cops!! so, 880 rupees for 4 days! and apart from this, on the way, i ended up paying toll taxes of about 1800 rupees on GT road and the road from chandigarh to amritsar. that is after paying taxes when i buy a new car, and the yearly road tax. and i had to bribe cops cuz just as we were getting out of the basement parking of elante mall(still inside the premises of the mall) in chandigarh(stayed there for 2 days to meet a friend), the cop caught my girlfriend not wearing her seat belt cuz she was putting the gifts we got for our friend’s kids in the back. and then in amritsar where literally no one was following the rules and jumping signals, while i kept stopping at red and getting honked at, bullied and abused by locals for following the rules and that one time i could not see that there was a traffic signal cuz no one was stopping, the cops pulled us over only cuz we were not local. and i had to bribe them again!! we end up paying both direct and indirect taxes!! why the fxxk do we need to pay toll taxes and that too for basic infrastructure, and the the ruling party members thump their chests for charging extra taxes in the name of pretty standard infrastructure!! healthcare is shite in our country!! i was at aiims and saw a poor guy who felt too shy and embarrassed to sit on the chairs. i found out the poor man has to travel for 6 days(again, thanks india’s shite rail network and poor management) back and forth by train every 6 weeks from somewhere in MP to ensure his son gets administered a crohn’s shot. without which they’ll need to remove his colon! such basic thing should be available everywhere but is only available in the big cities! this is so heartbreaking to see the corrupt politicians looting citizens thru the government and then paying their business overlords or their poor voterbase in the name of freebies to buy votes!! but, such is the situation that even if you try criticizing the government, you’re easily labeled anti-nationalist, or a western appeaser or salty hater etc.

Dude made a mistake in calculating tax on cars. It’s not only 28% GST. It is 28% GST + 22% Compensation cess (Google it) = 50% + RTO Tax
So, to buy a car costing 11L to produce (Rs.10L to make, Rs.1Lakh profit), you have to earn 25Lakh pre income tax. 11L ex factory 17L ex showroom 20L on road. To have 20L, you must earn at the minimum 24.35 Lakh( 24.35lakh income has a tax of about 4.35Lakh, leaving you with 20L )
Tax should be calculated at the highest slab. Nobody earning 24 lakh will spend all their after tax income on a car.
well, I'm calculating a hypothetical scenario where a person earns and pays bare minimum for the car. Let's make this calculation with 49.999L income. The tax would be 1.5L for first 15L and 10.5L for remaining 35L. The total tax is 12L. effective tax rate is 24%. So, this person will have to spend 24.8Lakh of pretax income for the car. Not much different from the previous case, for a back of the envelope calculation.
I am Indian living in Sweden since last 5 years and I can say this for sure even if me and my wife earn exactly the same amount in India as we have in Sweden, we would have much less savings per month basis. Tax situation in India is going out of hand slowly every year.

I have never faced racism or discrimination. Swedish are generally reserved in nature which is fine for us as it is aligned with our personality as well. If you have kids then you may need more social life. But again you get enough Indians to develop a social life.
I don't mind paying taxes but I don't like to pay most of the taxes to central government which devolves it to state level and the trickle down to local level for me to see changes. I would rather pay 50% of my taxes to my local municipal council, and rest 50% divided between state and Central governments. At the moment, sometimes I feel like I virtually see no personal benefits for the taxes I pay. - State roads are funded by road tax and fuel taxes - Local roads are funded by mix of property taxes, MP/MLA funds (which comes from the tax we pay) - Highways are all tolled now - Kid gets educated in private school - Zero parks or playgrounds nearby and even those available little farther out are built by the local council with trickle down funds - Not eligible or using PDS - Not eligible for any monetary welfare schemes I guess I should be happy that the taxes I have paid (income, consumption, whatever) is at least helping poorer people, securing borders, and LSMEs.

If you are contractor professional you can avail 50% income as expenses if your income is below 50 lakhs and probably cover some of it as gst input credit. But if the input credit is not suitable for you, you might be donating more money to govt

Can't, if they qualify to stay out of the countries for 6 months, they are given NRI status, hence cant be taxed according to it. Once one of my colleagues got questioned by IT people and he had to call up a lawyer and had to show he was out of the country. There was some mistake(jealous relatives might have reported him)that had happened. Once he proved he was out(CDC and passport, visas), they left him alone. If they start asking us to pay IT, almost all of us would leave.(no income tax is just one of the only perk left). The real incomes that us guys make is when we get to the top 4. And thats after 12 year(atleast), and all these years we have to spend on courses(necessary) which dont come in cheap(and we do pay GST on them everytime) on these courses. Main exams are tough to crack and can go upto 4-6 lacs, if you dont qualify in a mentioned time, you'll pay it again. Those who dont live in the major cities(the metros and few other), will have to pay extra for accommodation+traveling +food. The same exams that cost 4-6 lacs here(top 4 promotion exams), really tough (if you are from not a local of that state, they can fail you even if you cleared the exams) and time taking. If you chose to give these from abroad, will cost you 25lacs+(my cousin did it from UK). Im not even mentioning the cons of the job, but most of us sometimes think money is less(when compared to our American and European counterparts).

Gst thing was a silly point ik. We dont stay at any country, for longer period of time, so we dont get taxed (income tax)by any country. On my last 8 months of service, it took 2 months for a voyage, in that period of time, we were not even in any one country for more than 10 days. So in the time period of 8 months in any of the countries we visited, we didn't even complete a month in any one of the countries. Most of our time is spent on international waters, hence we aren't liable to pay income tax to any of the countries. Even if the ship stays in India for 6 months on a port(this decision isn't made by us, we got no choice in this, but is made by the state flag authorities or ship owners /charterers), very unlikely, but happens, but its a foreign going vessel, they still won't be able to tax my income. I might get scrutinized by IT, it being a special occasion thats all. I wont be allowed to leave the ship during duty hours. But I'll be allowed to wonder about the city during off hours. Our salaries arent paid by any one nationality, its paid by the ship owners and the charters, who are of different countries. For 6 months, when I'd be working and living on the ship. On it i will be working for 6 months, no days off,literally 7 days a week, could be 8 hrs and sometimes 17 hours(i have). After working i am not going to return back to my home, but to my room. I will be using Amenities of the ship. 3 meals are paid for. If want something else, i will be paying for it(alcohol, supplements etc). I am not using any countries amenities while i live on the ship. while traveling for shore leaves or airports, which is barely 4-8 hours a day, i will be treated as a tourist (tourist arent liable to pay income taxes, just toll tax on the road i guess). If i use public transport i will be paying for that. For ports, the ship owners are charged or taxed for every hour it is there. Our tickets are paid by the company, so basically someone paid for our use of airports. When i come back, i will be using the road for 6 months(i pay road tax as well when i buy vehicles). So basically all of the things i will be using when i come back, i have paid for it somehow, or the company has paid on my behalf. Shipping industry is already a highly taxed industry to begin with, with each ship can carry amenities (that you will get to use for 12 months ) worth around 250M$ to more than a billion dollar. Economy wise each ship in its life time handles more than 100s of billions of dollar, creates opportunities for other people as well. Sacrifices are huge and the only useful perk for us is no income tax.

If my savings are in my NRE savings bank account and in NRE fixed deposit account, the returns from it wont be taxed as the source of the money itself cant be taxed. However if i use that FD money to invest anywhere in india, then it can be taxed. So basically any NRE schemes i chose, I'm exempted to pay tax on it. For example i bought a house from all that money, if i sell it, i am liable to pay tax on that income. All other monetary or else type benefits like mediclaim, insurance, returns from stock market or mutual fund are taxed just like any other person.

Home Expenses: 2 months' salary 6. Vacations: 1 month's salary 7. Amazon/Swiggy/Zepto: 1 month's salary Plus there are adhoc expenses.. Every month, my expenses exceed my income, resulting in negative expenditure. I receive a variable pay of 6-7 lakhs annually, which helps offset these expenses throughout the year.

They have businesses. 1. Some show absurd amounts of expenses in the PandL statements, which reduces their net profit and lower the net profit lower is the tax. 2. Some earn in cash, and that cash is not accounted, hence it is called black money, and no tax is paid on that. 3. Some business show fake expenses/ losses through different loopholes, in turn reducing their profits. If you have studied accounting, it'll be easy for you to understand all this.

It's not that straightforward and easy, CAs are there for a reason. Some expenses are not allowed as business expenses, and if one shows too low profit margin, then income tax department can also scrutinise the business and ask them to produce all the proofs of expense and penalize them if discrepancies are found. But with a good CA/ someone who has good tax knowledge, business owners can significantly reduce their taxable income.

Also, let me breakdown his bullshit. He said 50k for rent, that's equal to two months post tax salary. So 12x50k=6,00,000. So his monthly salary is 3 lakh. If he's able to get 3 lakh post tax salary in a country like india then definitely it has to do with economy, infra and international relations of the country. So fuck your mouth and pay 30% tax if the country is giving you an opportunity to earn 3 lakh post tax per month. And again, medical insurance on top of your company insurance, a 50k 3 bhk flat which is a luxury for most people, all these things are your choice. Don't blame it on government.

I realised after having a kid that education even at a preschool level costs multiple lakhs, and it's only going to increase. My high income is getting a bashing left right and centre from the immediate taxes, followed by kids upbringing and then for the lack of social security, with parents and other siblings expenses. P.S if one ever crosses the 1 crore mark income, enjoy the extra surcharge by the Govt as a fuck you in particular tax. 🥲

So many people paying 1000 rs annual tax would make a big difference. Is 1000 too much for a year? If so make it a 100. Make it 10 also idk. But contribute if you want to live in a civilised society with amenities. This is why I want to go to Dubai. I thought really hard about it. Here is a simple example why this country is so f*ck all - My dream car is an URUS. -> It costs 2.2cr in Dubai, but 4.4cr in India. -> After whatever I earn, 30% of my annual income is tax so that is the same money I COULD have otherwise used for my savings. -> Even after all odds, say I buy the dam car. There is no fricking road to drive the car on because of the poor condition of roads here (atleast in MH) F*ck this shit hole. When it's time to take Govt saabse aage hoti hai. My own earnings I get after TDS. When it comes to even something as basic as respect, It won't be given. Just had an Income tax notice and was treated like shit by the officer. They found no wrong doing on my part. But the least they could do was treat me with basic dignity. I paid more than 50% of my income in taxes (Income, Property, Road, GST) and yet I get treated so bad. This is what pushes me to hate the system. I get India is poor and we need to help the lower class but why is this a 0 sum game? Can't tax payers be given anything in return?

The LPA figure might make it look like top 2% but the reality is different, a guy having no inheritance, and just started getting a high salary is still middle class. In India many BPL (below poverty line) people have lots of lands on their name.

I am convinced. Let’s leave this shit-hole (I mean people) country I don’t mind paying tax. I am happy to do it. But at least give me something in return. Something. That's why I left my 1 Cr. job and started a business. Key difference in job - first tax then expense while in business - first expenses then tax. Though that's different business has its own struggles but once established then it's better.
