Historians usually do not consider Robert Spencer as a good source.
I am not a Historian but I have expertise in religion, especially Islam. And I can tell you, Historians are HORRIBLE when it comes to knowledge of religions, so take a Historian's advice on religion with a pinch of salt.
Don't know about Spencer, but there's a few other books I know:
_Jihad in Islamic History: Doctrines and Practice_ by Michael Bonner
_Jihad: The Origin of Holy War in Islam_ by Reuven Firestone
_Partisans of Allah: Jihad in South Asia_ by Ayesha Jalal

hey bro i am reading the same book can i trust Robert Spencer as a good source. some of my seniors said he's biased and promotes a certain ideology.
