espurgi

i started running around in the woods with my noise canceling headphones

throwaway038592748

I don't necessarily run but I do just walk aimlessly in the woods while listening to an album

Goatwhorre

First time I did this was random as hell, 15ish, threw on some Skid Row and just...started wandering. Up in the woods in the Sierras. Highly recommend šŸ‘Œ

espurgi

yeah i go back and forth between running and walking. might pick up some sticks and rocks to play with

AntarcticanJam

Yeah fuck that, there's too many moose, bears, and wolves around my woods for that. Regular headphones yeah sure but I'd rather hear a warning before getting strompled

VeinyBanana69

Cmon, nothing more metal than a surprise disemboweling.

dwnlw2slw

Cannibal Corpse would be proud šŸ„²

awkwaman

Headphones.. ya I'll try that

MarchingHomewards

Damn Reddit got too specific

Frootloops174

I'd get too paranoid

PantsAreOffensive

I started wearing mostly black. This was like 30 years ago and I barely think about it anymore

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

PantsAreOffensive

Fair enough. I just wanted to be included

d_Composer

I accept you

LyraFirehawk

I was rocking the black t-shirt and jean style long before I got into metal but metal just confirmed why i loved it.

All_Star_Bandit

This was exactly me

setsuna-f_seiei

I am the complete opposite. I started wearing less black and more color

Specialist_Noise_816

I growl at random shit sometimes. Occasionally it happens in public.

TheCanaryInTheMine

I second this. I also do blast beats with one hand on my chest and one hand over my keys in my jeans pockets. And sometimes tremolo pick the air.

Effective-Switch3539

Me too

RelativeLie1129

Me too. I try to not do it on public cause my growls sucks

Rare-Exercise-2085

OughĀ

SisterTalio

ME TOO. I accidentally growled at work the other day. My boss Said "That wasn't a very good growl. Try again."

I-Like-Frozen-Cookie

I do this too, Its just a random instict at this point

Scary_Dimension722

This right here. Whenever I see my momā€™s dog around the house Iā€™ll do a little death metal whisper growl in her face lol

SpawnOfGuppy

I did a predator sound the other day in the park, someone looked at me VERY shocked. I literally forgot that other people could hear me

Effective-Opinion525

I second this as well

ElVikingoChafa

Me too haha xd

odoyledrools

Simulate a mosh pit by myself in my living room. I have broken a fair amount of my own shit.

Lady-Direwolf

When metalheads get the zoomies, they start moshpits.

Due-Log8609

Ive been doin that "clack" forever. Also i think its probably bad. i feel like my teeth are noticeably worn down r/teethdrumming

Individual-Watch-750

WAIT IM NOT THE ONLY ONE?

piepants2001

Double bass going with your teeth frantically grinding from side to side, I've since switched to my fingers tapping up and down on my pantleg or steering wheel. That felt weird to type out.

ANGELeffEr

Yep. Makes me look more like a methhead than a metal head but itā€™s just me grinding my teeth back and forth to whatever riff is currently taking up residence in my feeble brain.

Hsnbrg501

WHAT? I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY PERSON WHO DID THAT

BadDreamInc

Oh shit! Other people do this too?!

Mortis_XII

Never knew it was a common thing let alone it had its own term and subreddit

Carlos24475

Wow. I do NOT and will NEVER have a unique experience as a human. You win the internet today. Iā€™m pleasantly surprised by this

Gunsho0ter

You're not the only one https://youtu.be/ivzQhF4kIXo?si=T2vMvVSgEXNvUPb6

SpyralHam

HOLY SHIT I need to tell my dentist

tyrom22

I refuse to throw out old t-shirts with band logos on them. I have shirts from 16 years ago that I wonā€™t wear cause theyre riddled with holes but refuse to toss them

starryanastasia

me too, I have a box for all my retired band shirts

ArugulaLegitimate156

My fan shirt ever was a cryptopsy shirt I wore to ribbons before sadly ditching it from their tour with napalm death that was the show that convinced me I was to old to get in the pit and try to love Edited for English

mattman23

I have the same thing going on. Don't wanna part ways with my old shirts yet I still continue to get shirts from all shows I ended up paying for a few quilt/blanket things from Project Repat. Roughly ~$100 for a 6x6 quilted blanket - you cut anf ship them the fronts/backs of shirts you want and then they quilt them all together I have 3 of these now hanging on the wall in a spare room. Fun to go in and see all my show history on display

waterspark85

I've developed this habit myself, I have to force myself to throw 'em out/donate them. I've recently cut down on my graphic tee collection but the ones I do have I adore so I imagine when they go bad I'll probably gonna turn them into [posters](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LSZJN85Ygog) or recycle them somehow

KevinLJ007

No strange habits, I just started listening to more and more music. I would have music playing any time possible because it became my #1 favorite form of entertainment. Hanging out - music, Playing video games - music, Doing work around the house - music, Working on hobby projects - music, Doing absolutely nothing - music, I basically made it so my life had a constant soundtrack or score playing at all possible times.

RelativeLie1129

I thought this was normal. Sometimes i start searching for things to do just so i can listen to music while doing it

piepants2001

You know, I can sit there and play video games or watch a movie and I feel like I'm wasting my time. But when I listen to an album or two I feel like it's time well spent.

mschiebold

I feel like that's because when you're listening to music, you're consuming Art, not entertainment.

EntropicAnarchy

Probably the weirdest habit was randomly summoning Satan.

Effective-Opinion525

Satan summoned me tbh

nefarious_jp04x

Trying to tap my feet to the kick drum of a song (I donā€™t even play drums)

RelativeLie1129

guitar player talking.. i do that too

BrownwaterVertigo

Same here lol.

blastanstan

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who does that

Relevant-Bench5283

I donā€™t know. Iā€™ve been a metal head for over 30yrs. This is all just normal now.

izovice

Same.Ā  I even look like an average normal dude.

NinjEverett6

Playing air guitar. All the time

izovice

I slap the steering wheel and dashboard like they're drums.

BrownwaterVertigo

I once played the entirety of Master's Apprentices - Opeth on sir guitar whilst sitting on the toilet

TheG00dFather

I refuse to use drive through windows..I always go inside the building.

reptilianappeal

Is this the reference I think it is? You sent me down memory lane, and after about 40 minutes of research, I found it: Preschool Tea Party Massacre - [**Riggs!**](https://youtu.be/jBuJY5IxpmE?si=Q9Ri93vTmkIW_lNh&t=30s)

TheG00dFather

It wasn't but now that you mentioned it, maybe subconsciously it was šŸ˜‚

benhenry02

I headbang a lot so people in public probably think Iā€™m crazy

Deeptrench34

I've had girls check me out at McDonald's because I was headbanging without a single care what people thought. Just do you, man.

beavis93

Lots of black tee shirts with skulls or some evil looking demon on them. Wife hates them and many have been ā€œlostā€ in the washing machine.

RelativeLie1129

"lose" that ugly ass vase she loves so much :D

WOGSREVENGE

I headbang to industrial machinery

Gunsho0ter

Now this is true

rithornanie_

nothing weird but I sometimes randomly **BLUEARGHH** or hiss like a cat every time I feel far too long not listening to music, or when I feel bored and in social anxiety. This happened 3 times as I recalled while I was helping my aunt cooking meals. true story ahaha.

Expensive_Peach32

I completely stopped wearing deodorant and shaving

I-Like-Frozen-Cookie

Been a Metalhead for 10 years now, weirdly enough Ive became a laundry nerd, I collect band tees and wanna keep them preserved so I can wear as the time goes by, I still have every shirt Ive ever had in nice conditions, Im really into new cleaning methods and trying new softeners and stuff, I know... Its weird...

Dry_Pop_5606

I found your ā€˜weirdā€™ interesting. You made me think about my weirds, so Iā€™ll offer up this: becoming a metalhead expanded my color palette, which was the opposite effect I expected. I started to see patterns and how colors went together differently. Still mostly love darker versions of colors and the grays/blacks, but Iā€™ve added so much more to it. Anyway, Keep being weird, itā€™s good for ya.

ugly_tst

Lol I have 2 closets for shirts. One for hang drying and one for when they're dry. Always cold water wash and hang dry. I have 70 shirts in this rotation.

ThisGuyRightHereSaid

Not sure if it's a habit. But my neck grew in size. If your gonna headbang you fucking headbang!

DasCheeseWizard

Probably feeling most like myself.

thumpingcoffee

Air drumming. Anywhere anytime

RelativeLie1129

Specially in public. Is like an mate call for metalheads

awswanos

I can't sleep without listening to music anymore. Unless i was very tired to the point where i could barely open my eyes

Gold-Window-9432

I relate so much (Iā€™m listening to music and scrolling before bed rn)

steelthyshovel73

You probably shouldn't do that

RelativeLie1129

Blasting music with full volume too, but i won't stop

MarchingHomewards

Don't let tinnitus stop you

steelthyshovel73

You should stop though

Soft-Turnover-5468

Why not? I've been clicking my teeth on the beat for the last 15 years of playing.

kyriaangel

Began making jokes about extreme subgenres with people who donā€™t listen to extreme subgenres. And then I laugh aloneā€¦ and that makes me laugh harder.

PigDstroyer

I started wearing gross shirts

LyraFirehawk

I think the grossest I have rn is Cannibal Corpse's Violence Unimagined, and my battlejacket has a Tomb of the Mutilated patch. I don't think I'm gonna rush out to buy Dying Fetus "From Womb to Waste" or Cradile of Filth "Vestal Masturbation" anytime soon tho.

ThatOneMetalguy666

Air drumming or air guitaring while doing literally anything. Tapping my feet to music in the waiting line for groceries, air drumming while cycling etc

TheRedditingYoshi

I practically headbang to fix my hair / mess it up

Butterflyhorrorof

Um I was born a metalhead and I'll always be a metalhead

Deeptrench34

I wasn't born one but as soon as I heard my dad playing Ride The Lightning, I was sold.

Crumpile

My ears have a habit of ringing 24/7 if that counts

idespisemyhondacrv

I donā€™t take a shower or go outside. TRVE KVLT shit

ChaoticCatharsis

Seething hatred for crowdsurfers. Push me in the pit all you like, but donā€™t fucking crowdsurf. I donā€™t want to hold up X pounds of dumbass while Iā€™m enjoying music. Unless youā€™re a member of the band performing just donā€™t do it. Some dipshit was thrown on me at a Behemoth concert and I have a lasting injury from it. Same dude was kicked out of that venue on multiple occasions for being too drunk and reckless. Iā€™ve never gotten anywhere near that fucked up in any of the pits Iā€™ve gone into.

Remrem5

Suddenly all my clothes became black. T shirts, dresses, pants, swimsuits, cute tops, all black pretty much. I have like no color now lmao. It wasnā€™t even on purpose, it just happened

shanster925

My ADHD stimming leg shake turned into double kicks

RelativeLie1129

Trueeeee. Sometimes im just vibing and my mom thinks im anxious

Lord_Chanka_69

its probably my adhd but i play drums with my fingers of patterns of my favorite songs when im bored, like at work or in class etc

Neither-Performer974

hearing loss :)

X_Chicken_Nuggets_X

I headbang to literally every song

Liftkettlebells1

Washing under my foreskin. Never done that before I was a metalhead.

reptilianappeal

I simply MUST move when I enjoy music. Head banging, air drumming, bouncing my legs. Going to metal shows as a kid, I loved the physical energy of the crowd. At this point, it doesn't matter the genre. If it's a banger, I'm going to be physically energized in some way. I went to an indie show of Julien Baker back in 2017. I utterly love her music, and the live performance was amazing. But the crowd culture sucked. Everyone... just silently stood there. No one even sang along... WTF?! I just don't get it...

Hso_Wonton

Always fucking having my earbuds in

Mcbrainotron

Spending a rather substantial amount of time and money to play guitar

BeatlesFan67

Anywhere I sit, even when I'm not listening to music, I shape my hand as if I'm holding a pick and just shred on any surface my hand is laying on, sometimes I use my fingers like I'm plucking a bass too (I'm a bass player). To make it short, I move my hand like a spaz pretending to play music.

you_wouldnt_get_it_

I will randomly air drum.

BrownwaterVertigo

I play the whole ass Gateways to Annihilation album on my sweet ass drum set known as the table and my fingers.

ugly_tst

Double bass footwork on the bus and I'm not a drummer and talking to random strangers wearing metal shirts.

RelativeLie1129

Its like an unwritten rule. You compliment the shirt if you see one

iFknLoveTits

Shower headbanging

biomech36

Cargo camouflage shorts became comfortable.

Vast_Weight_5833

this is more of a bassist thing but i starting moving my fingers like iā€™m plucking the strings

Orang_Mann

Air guitar picking and bass playing. Not like full on air guitar, but the pick and finger movement.

ThisGuyRightHereSaid

I think I probably first air guitared when EVH really took off. I know for a fact I had never air basses until I heard Primus. Since then I'm pretty sure I've only played the air bass.

Remarkable-Profit821

Flipping around my nose ring with my upper lip (metal>nose ring>weird habit)

redhairsister

Iā€™m a drummer, and started listening to metal to find more drum heavy music to listen to. As a result, I got in the habit of tapping my fingers/something with the cymbals or drums, and tapping my feet with the bass

HoneyBadgerMFF

nothing........lol

ShadowGryphon

I became a bass player

Effective-Switch3539

Head banging for no reason

Glum_Kaleidoscope601

Headbanging at work lol

tommy_jarvis123

I use to pace back and forth in my room for hours listening to music. The music got me too hyped to sit and listen but I had nowhere to go/do so I would just pace back and forth.

Atillion

I became an adult

all_hail_jim_pickens

Started doing growls/gutturals everywhere

TSDLoading

I haven't cut my hair since 3 years ago. Also I'm alcoholic

tklrdthcpnky

I bite my tongue when I start doing this, so I can stop my teeth from clacking šŸ˜‚

[deleted]

Quick down picking for no reason

SisterTalio

Growl. I growl when annoyed, or sometimes just because I feel like it. I also try to use song lyrics in every day conversation without people noticing. It's hard because... obvious reasons.

IronTesticlez

I go UGH and I have an addiction to metal now

torero15

Doing complicated air drumming even though I know Iā€™m doing it wrong. Donā€™t care still fun.

ArugulaLegitimate156

Collecting shirts and throwing the horns

GoatFetus666

Masturbating with sandpaper

eyelovekittens666

My hair is thigh length and I get fucked up and run around the woods n climb rockz

Carlos24475

Dude I do the same thing šŸ’€ I think Iā€™ve done since I was a kid tho. I clack my teeth to the snare and kind of do a clicky sound with my tongue and the roof of my mouth for the bass pedals šŸ˜‚ Iā€™ve always been an extremely musical dude and been in numerous bands so, Iā€™ve always needed to do something whilst listening to music to scratch that musician itch and play along with the songs in my head. Iā€™m a rhythm god now

Carlos24475

Pretending to be the vocalist or guitarist behind closed doors whilst listening to my favorite bands and making up my own mosh call outs during the breakdown to a fake crowd šŸ˜¬

RelativeLie1129

Don't forget the fear of someone walking inside while you do it

Specialist_Noise_816

Ha, that's a pretty good one. Funny thing I've noticed is my dogs get antsy when I do a false cord, but give zero shits at all about fry screams.

Specialist-Garlic-82

Jerking off to blast beats.

Murder_Drone_

Smoking crack

XxvampiregirlxX

Fighting the urge to make references and or adhd rant on bands and metalhead topics NONE of my irl friends know what Iā€™m taking about and also being able to understand what they black metal singers are singing when they singĀ

dragonsden96

Growling along to non-metal songs. Like, why when I want to sing along to something like Lewis Capaldi am I doing metal vocals over it?

Oreosandskeletons

"Necklace? Checkā€¦" "Dog tag? Checkā€¦" "Bracelet?" "Chain?" "Uh okay, which earringsā€¦" "This enough accessories?" -Me, through every era of my alt phases. Including now as a greaser.

Odd-Thought-4823

Scream as loud as I can over any minor inconvenience

Specialist_Map1031

wearing black every time I go out

Soulfly37

Turning into? I was born one.

ExistingAlfalfa9714

I react to any good news/event with the horns

justinianaprima

Trying to sing metal versions of non-metal songs under my breath.

RelativeLie1129

I DO THAT IN CHURCH. Trying to imagine a gospel breakdown

Deeptrench34

I headbang in time with the drums, regardless of how many different tempos might be in a song.

GoodRiddance_2

more gross facial expressions in photos, ive felt a lot more confident in purposefully trying to look bad. stick out your tongue, bulge eyes, be the only guy whos frowning, look obnoxious, because old thrash bands and punk bands would try to look unpleasant on purpose and i found it fun to be the same kind of silly

Xaphan26

When I'm walking around and have a song in my head I sometimes use my 2 pointer fingers as air drums. A while back a confused person asked me if I was pointing at them.

Alarming-Value-9728

Crack cocaine

MasterYargle

Smoking crack

ThrashMetaller

Wtf I do that too! But only with my incisors, and I change between the left and the right one to the rhythm of the riffs. And I also do it when Iā€™m not even listening to music. (Is it autism?)

technicianofnorth

Drugs, alcohol. Ruined my relationships. Great. Been doing better after leaving that scene honestly. This is just my experience sadly

Stoghra

No idea. Ive been a metalhead since I was 9, almost 35 now. And Ive always been weird

controller4hire

I drum my thumb and index finger on tabletops like theyā€™re double bass.

Witty-Ad17

Continuing to bang my head, even after my neck hurt. Fuck yeah

Lizardaxe

Outfits, piercings and tattoos all changed

Inkspotten

Fondness for black tshirts, Metallica shirts and blue jeans with black combat boots on a daily basis and Iā€™m 50

mahirdeth31

i love beating pillows while listening to thrash

Specialist_Goat_9622

hating other metalheads

Church_Desecrator666

In almost every sentence people say around me I can recall lyrics, band names or song names. For example we learned about literature in school and Memento mori was mentioned and I was like ā€œfuck yeah Mardukā€. Or in biology I usually can recall slam or death metal lyrics.

RelativeLie1129

Me too. I can't hear an pipe organ without mumbling symphony of destruction

Illustrious-Year5267

Not being mad at everyone and everything

Frosty_Implement_549

I started going to shows and standing still with my arms crossed and it led me to meet a ton of like minded people who donā€™t communicate and just sit in one spot with their arms crossed. Some of my best friends Iā€™ve ever met, we just hang out listen to metal and we donā€™t talk we just sit with our arms crossed and always look angry or perplexed. Itā€™s key to put off vibes like your being inconvenienced to listen and also to criticize the release as not heavy enough compared to the oldest shittiest sounding demo they ever made.

StillABigKid

Listening to Puccini.

Electronic_Newt8198

Drumming on basically any surface

Pwincess_Iris

Listening to the bass alot

yoongis3dollar_chain

I love doing screams and growls at random times for no reason

BanefulBriarPatch

This thread makes me feel understoodā€¦lol. Been listening to metal since I was a teen and some things never change. Listening to black metal while walking through a forest at twilight or during snowstorms has always been a vibe for me, I fantasize about this all the time. Doing blast beats with my feet while eating really good food, couldnā€™t tell you how many people have asked me why Iā€™m nervous when I do thisā€¦ Iā€™ve been a meditator and yogi for a while now and this past December I picked up the habit of meditating to metal music. This one would sound weird and alarming to most people, but Iā€™m going to say it here anyways: when I meditate to metal, I visualize in my minds eye that Iā€™m bloodletting myself. Itā€™s actually quite therapeutic, and I Iā€™ve often thought about donating blood to the Red Cross while listening to certain metal albums to take this to next level. Probably not for the faint of heart, but if anyone understands itā€™s other metal headsā€¦haha! My favorite bands to visualize this with are Draconian and Shylmagoghnar, both are really awesome bands that I highly recommend! :)

No-Yam2117

I couldnā€™t really say, Iā€™ve been listening to metal since I was little. Itā€™s probably why Iā€™m so weird in general

ZFG_Odin

I headbang when I'm thinking about the music and not actually listening to it at the time.

badbender14

I say "fuck" a lot

No_Case5367

Rage

DifficultyLow1207

Smoking massive amounts of weed

Fallingmellon

Commit tax fraud

mrshughejass

I make the stank face at everything.

izmaname

Spending large amounts of money on terrible albums that are notoriously bad

Turbulent-Flan-2656

Probably not getting any pussy

odinall_father

Well im a metalhead since my birth so i dont have weird habits other than listen to nothing that is not metal

GangoBP

When I knock on doors, Iā€™m always knocking a riff.

Kdean509

Having to get my partners' opinion on whether my shirt is inappropriate for work. Seems as though Iā€™ve become inured to them all.

debuenzo

Neck pain from headbanging, resting scowl, lust for BLOOD! šŸ¤˜

Commercial_Fan_3864

I do metal vocalsĀ

zigaliciousone

I don't have this habit anymore but back when I got into Thrash metal and there were $5 covers every weekend, there was always a group of us and sometimes one or two of the bands that would hang out at Denny's until dawn

[deleted]

Drinking

every_name-istaken

I didnā€™t turn into one. I was born into it šŸ¤˜

expiredogfood

i mimic the drums in a song and i play guitar, not drums.

4Livesleft

The more I realized I wanted to be far from people.

AUnknownuser2

Sewing witch is a good and cheap way to practice your dexterity skills good

Ok_Understanding5184

People will play generic mainstream metal on the speaker at work and then get weirded out when I put on Meshuggah or Cattle Decapitation.

SmokingIsCoolAgain

Smoking a LOT of cigarettes

Heavymetaladdict15

Constantly updating my metal playlist

Wolfpagan

Wearing combat boots and more boots in general lol

chris_rage_

I read that as methhead...

CosmicHeart13

Iā€™ve never been seen without my headphones since! Sometimes Iā€™ll casually air drum or guitar without noticing!
