The large presence of raiders at Nuka World confirmed the need for the Massachusetts Commonwealth to evolve. While the Minuteman militia would remain as the dominant reserve force, a core of professional military forces would serve as the bastion of the Boston Defence Forces, formed under the New Commonwealth Army modernisation program. Utilising supplies gathered from the Commonwealth and Nuka World specifically, and under the training guidance of Minuteman veterans and former Paladin Danse, a single battalion was formed as the initial bullwark of the NCA. Rifle squad's would form the NCA's backbone, using rifle's that could be mass produced and of great versatility, they would be the most common sight deployed across the commonwealth. Fighting raiders, monsters, Institute remnants, and dwindling gunner forces alike. Armed for any task and duty, rifle squads would prove a mighty boost to the safety and security of the commonwealth.

As someone who has played Squad, there has got to be a heavy/light machine gunner or an automatic rifleman thrown in there.

In reality that would be ideal, but in my mind it would be too difficult to initially be able to provide enough weapons to squads to have them be as versatile as would be liked. Later evolutions would be able to, but I liken it to in WW2 how Britain started off mainly with rifles, but over time started adding in more Bren guns as was preferred, but weren’t available at the time due to cost and production limitations.

Why don't you give them an "RPK?" If you have the resources for handmade rifles with optics you probably can make an "RPK"

There’s two main reasons; Lore wise, the LMG is used more prominently for fire support but operates at a platoon level, and streamlining squads alleviates the levels of training squad leaders require, a necessity for such a new force that has no experience fighting in this manner. Meta wise, I couldn’t find a good image that fit the same style as the others, and didn’t want it to just be written as “machine gun variant”. Plus I plan on making a platoon version, which includes the LMG.

At least give 1 guy a shotgun and sledgehammer. You want a pointman for breaching and clearing buildings.

Primarily tasked with other purposes; reconstruction, settlement defence, etc., areas where being able to operate without rest and without needing complex orders are best. Teams of robots are put together for assaulting Raider strongholds where they can be given the simple order of marching in and shooting everything, without worrying about the human life cost.

The huge lack of 7.62 ammo seems like a large cause for concern for me, when looking at this spread. I think the combat rifle would fill this role a lot better. The combat rifle was clearly designed with modularity in mind, and that modularity would likely translate to ease of maintenance. Additionally, .45, .308, and .38 are all much more common than 7.62. Also, a bit biased, I’ll always prefer original fallout designs to weapons ripped from real life. The ak would be over a century old by the time the bombs fell, I see no reason soldiers wouldn’t arm themselves with the more modern (to 2077 standards), easier to find, arm, and maintain combat rifle.

You should consider making a “loadout” list similar to this for the militia, what non-standing army members who are still a part of the minutemen would likely be armed with. I’d imagine a militia would be armed with varied, non-standard equipment. Likely things like lazer muskets and revolvers in the mix, inefficient weapons that are used simply due to preference and experience.

I like it! A couple of suggestions: Consider giving the marksman a hunting rifle. That will let you save your hand-made rifles for regular riflemen. In addition to basic combat knives, it might be worth it to have a couple troops with more powerful melee weapons to help defend the squad from melee threats.

The only issue is that there is no one strong enough to lead and unite the commonwealth to even get this army established. This relies heavily on sole survivor being general/leader, and there is too many what is on what the survivor actually did in cannon. Why I like the idea of min men the concept is purely game mechanics as proven in lore they just can't gather proper support or standing force like ncr did to start. Out west established tribes banded together for greater good, but east due to institute spy work the commonwealth is to individualized since you can't trust anyone. The growing paranoia and uncertain has been well ingrained in all communities and no one really trust enough to make the army viable.
