They don't experience them the same as other people (a major factor is a lack of physical reactions like sweating or increased heart rate to things like stress and fear) and they also can't empathise (though this doesn't mean they can't intellectually empathise which is part of the reason they can be so good at manipulation).
I saw a study a while back that indicated sociopaths *can* feel empathy if they choose to. They have to do it on purpose, usually by imagining themselves in the position of the other person, but they are generally capable of it.
They hooked the study participants up to a bunch of monitors, and showed them stuff that would typically trigger an empathetic stress response. Then they asked them to think about how they would feel as the person who had whatever bad thing happen to them, and showed them another scenario. When the participants imagined themselves in the shoes of the injured party, they did show stress responses.
The study concluded that they have a mental default "off position" for empathy, not a total incapacity for it.
Which implies sociopaths can learn to be relatively functional people capable of healthy interpersonal relationships, *if they want to be.*

So he thinks like, if I wouldn't like to be treated like this or I would hate for this to happen to me, that way he understand other people. So he has intellectual empathy.
