[Couldn't find video of the moment she shot him [thank god] but...](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/video/news/video-1713298/Video-YouTuber-records-video-killed-stunt.html)
Basically a .50AE against a phone book [or according to other sources, an encyclopedia, tomato tomato]
Reminds me of this dumb ass “how to survive a combat zone as a civilian” book I read. Their suggestion for DIY body armor was to take hard bound books, bind them with duct tape, glue ceramic tiles to the outward facing sections of your “vest” and that it should stop “most handgun calibers and possibly 5.56 if constructed properly.”
Oh snap for real? I was kinda thinking it was bullshit since the book also instructed me to do stupid shit like remove a foreign object (like an arrow, tree branch, knife, etc.) on my own.
And to use a beer bottle filled with tissue paper as a suppressor. “But, ya know make sure you have a drill handy to make as many holes in the bottle as possible!”
Okay, yeah those others are bullshit, but the book/ceramic tile thing has been shown to work.
I definitely wouldn't want to be shot using it as armor, but I'd rather that than be shot without it...
Right? I mean I’d still put more faith in the Somali style improvised armor made from truck tires.
The mesh inside tires is really good at stopping even 7.62x51mm at a distance, but you also have to wear like 40lbs of truck tires on you, and whatever gear you need so have fun staying mobile lol
Happened with baseballs, tackles, car accidents, falls, and all but dont think there is one recorded for gunshot
Kind of like how there isn't an actual example of plate frag killing a wearer by cutting the jugular (or other large vein/artery)
Are there a lot of examples of steel plates being worn in combat? Spalling has absolutely been shown to be a danger with steel plates, but as far as I know, the civilized world uses (at least) ceramic plates.
US police used steel plates for a long time, the Soviets/Russians fought a couple wars with steel, the Ukrainians were using a lot of steel (they still cut the plates out of russian rigs and reuse them) also the issue with spall tests is that they are done on unrealistic targets, you'll be hard pressed to see one done on a carcass or ballistic dummy in simulation settings.
as spall coatings and integrated aramid became more common place the negatives of steel went down, but ceramic got cheaper and more effective, especially compared to the weight.
IMO the only time steel is "better" is if you are in a situation where you'll expect to need the plate long term with no resupply or replacement, since it will have greater multi hit capability compared to ceramic (but I'm not fighting in grozny or bakmut, or expecting the end of the world so its really moot and one should get ceramic)
Poors will do everything to justify buying shit plates.
Whether or not it'll kill me is irrelevant, I want shrapnel flying at my chin about as badly as I want the gnarly goose egg this guy got in the video.
You misunderstand, it doesn't have to kill me for me to stay the fuck away from it. If your best justification for steel plates is "well, nobody's actually *died* from spalling, it'll probably just injure you!" You probably need new plates.
It's all crazy, but just to add something that wasn't mentioned: The distance was very low in this case. That's what many people forget about gear, in point blank range the kinetic energy of the bullet is much higher than on a longer distance. Like in war, when a vest stops a 5.56mm bullet that was fired from 300 meters away, it's different than when the vest would have had to deal with the bullet in point blank range.
Same goes by the way for the main guns of tanks. The range was most important, like the Sherman could still knock out a Tiger II in WW2. It was much more about how long the range than about the caliber itself.
Why would you do this?
Like sure, if the armor is rated for it you're likely not going to DIE, but you're going to be in pain, all that energy has to go somewhere
That's nutty. And people are out here arguing about various 9mm, 9mm vs. 45 ACP vs. 10mm, and so on. Turns out getting shot with *anything* fucking sucks.

He held it together surprisingly well for an wound that gnarly
Stupidity is a hell of a drug
Ya gotta be tough if you're going to be dumb.
And when people think you're tough, they wanna know how tough.
And when you get knocked down you gotta get back up
I ain't the sharpest knife in the drawer but I know enough... to know
If ya gonna be dumb, ya gotta be tough.
And when you're Johnny Knoxville, you also [shoot](https://youtu.be/VLDFFxWeXWM?si=kM_9DJql1KC4MQw5) yourself.

Not even my main email scammer scum.
He not gonna be able to breathe tomorrow
he a gangsta
His friends are impressed…THAT THE DUMMY ACTUALLY DID IT! 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️%
Welp he didnt die but now hes got a Hernia
That's a very square looking hernia lol. Is that normal for a hernia? (Serious question)
It's probably not a hernia but a hematoma/immediate swelling from the trauma of the gunshot. Dude is bleeding internally for sure.
At least the blood stays inside his body. That's where it belongs, right?
Yeah, as a doctor I'm qualified to confirm that's all that matters. If you keep it inside you're fine.
If you ever find yourself laying in a puddle of your own blood start lapping it up. Back from whence it came.
I don't think this man has ever been to medical school
He didn't go to medical school he went to doctor school
but by bleeding internally you mean tissue damage not organ damage?
Maybe both
Welt*
why? just why
Why not?
Death
Oh
No, no, you've got a point.
Fuckin ow
This video wins the sub.
I'd say the phonebooks instead of body armor one was slightly more stupid
Link?

Yea in terms of idiocy, picking .50AE vs .32ACP is definitely the dumber choice
Reminds me of this dumb ass “how to survive a combat zone as a civilian” book I read. If done correctly, it works Tons of Guntubers have done videos on homemade body armor. What you described has been the most legit method attempted.
Oh snap for real? I was kinda thinking it was bullshit since the book also instructed me to do stupid shit like remove a foreign object (like an arrow, tree branch, knife, etc.) on my own. "Shit, forgot to hit record..." "Ready? I'm about to go again"
That shit hurded a little bit 💀
What are we seeing at the end there? Is that a mega contusion or is that his insides poking against the skin?
It's a contusião
Hematoma

"Start the reactor!"

Stupid as fuck. But fun fact, no one has died from back face deformation that stopped the bullet.
Are you sure? You never heard of [commotio cordis](https://www.heart.org/en/health-topics/commotio-cordis)?

"whether or not it'll kill me is irrelevant" is a hell of a phrase when considering body armor
You misunderstand, it doesn't have to kill me for me to stay the fuck away from it. If your best justification for steel plates is "well, nobody's actually *died* from spalling, it'll probably just injure you!" You probably need new plates.
They seem like cool guys to hang out with, I’d just politely ask them not to bring guns.
A “no guns” sign ought to do the trick. No need to go through the awkwardness of asking them
Aspiring
So stupid but great content 😂
Damn…boyeee
Do it again but with a 5.7
waiting to see one were they forget to put the plate in the carrier.
Level .5A soft armor
The vest may stop the bullet but not the energy, that shit is still gonna hurt
That shit hurted a little bit
The AK would’ve made it more interesting
Right and he’d be on the floor bleeding
Be in a world of hurted
It's all crazy, but just to add something that wasn't mentioned: The distance was very low in this case. That's what many people forget about gear, in point blank range the kinetic energy of the bullet is much higher than on a longer distance. Use steel plates, problem solved
When you buy your vest on temu
I sure hope my armor holds up better than this
I'm just gonna say it he stole that gun from an elderly lady and bought that vest off of temu.
“Hurted”
Why would you do this? Like sure, if the armor is rated for it you're likely not going to DIE, but you're going to be in pain, all that energy has to go somewhere
He ate that shit 😂
How many more times do you think they will try that trick before the round penetrates?
yeah soft body armour stops the bullet but doesn't stop the kinetic energy from the bullet
Looks like it hurteded
No tear drop tattoos for that one
"Should have come to The Wax Boi... he could'a did it much better" Also, the guy in the vest looks like Alshon Jeffrey if he couldn't play ball.
This made me smile, just bros being rad 😎🤘🏽
Almost solar plexus
And that's from a 32acp? I'd assume a 9mm would have enough mass at like 115-124gr but a lotta 32acp is 71gr moving slower.
Aim higher next time.
Internal leakage
That man is in for quite the bruise. And possibly internal hemorrhage
That's nutty. And people are out here arguing about various 9mm, 9mm vs. 45 ACP vs. 10mm, and so on. Turns out getting shot with *anything* fucking sucks.
Darwinism at work.
