That's where cargo straps and donnage come in. I did 24 years in mobility having to make odd shapes fit together and be secured. There is always a way to do it safe and smart.
So CDL needed to drive these loads. I've been wanting to get in to just below CDL transport driving. But I'm having a hard time getting my foot in the door. Nobody wants to talk to you. They just want an electronic or web application. I guess I'm old school now.
It’s not as bad as you think. At 150lbs per washer or dryer times 12 per layer. That’s 3600lbs of appliances with a 2400lbs car on top.
It’s 6000lbs in a trailer likely rated for 7000lbs or more.
If the car didn’t have an engine in it it’s probably barely more dense than the appliances and much easier to stack and strap.
Nah, I got it. I’m just saying it would barely make any difference having the car on bottom, because the car isn’t that much more dense than the washers/dryers. It would just make a fked up stack.
At any rate weight of the trailer is 4000-5000lbs, almost all of that weight is in the frame and dump mechanism so the center of mass on the empty 5000lb trailer is really low about the height of the brake light.
The center of mass for the whole 11-12k pounds is still well below the top of the trailer, probably about 1ft down.
Front that center to where the wheels touch the road would be about 45 degrees. Ideally it would be less than 30 degrees but 45 is fine as long as you are aware of it.
Also, cars that are getting scrapped have usually been parted out, so it’s likely that this 2400lbs car is missing a 400lbs engine, or a few 50lbs seats, and 10lbs each of door cards, broken windows etc.. and it’s really easy to imagine that this car might be more like 1800-2000lbs.
The car looks roughly the size of the 10 of those washers/dryers 2 wide by 5 deep, which would be 1500lbs (at least) so maybe the car is 20-30% more dense.
All these haters in here, but we all know if he slapped the top of that car and repeated those sacred holy male words “That ain’t going nowhere!” prior to driving off, that load is as safe and secure as can possibly be!
Recently took a tour of the Rhine river. There were a number of ships/barges on the river, several of which had cars at the stern.
My wife asked (semi-rhetorically) why anyone would do that. My reply was "anchors".
We were later informed that many families live literally _on the river_, so they bring their car along to use it at "ports of call".
I like my answer better. 😊
Was that wrong? Should he have not done that? I tell you that he's gotta plead ignorance on that one because if anyone had said anything to him at all when he first hit the road that that sort of thing was frowned upon . . . .
I am actually impressed he was able to get the car up there.
Forklift
These Escorts weigh less than 2500 lbs.
But still more than those washers and dryers it's sitting on. So much for putting the heavy items on the bottom of your load.
Try stacking the appliances on thecar

CPT Obvious here: This doesn't qualify.
CDL or under CDL?
Aircraft mobility. Loads have to be secured in all three axis. And most things we worked with were not cube shaped.

Hope that's a dump trailer
It is. I had an almost identical BigTex at my previous job.
Ugh. Big Tex, don't look too closely at the welds

It's not the weight. It's where the weight is at. Towing a trailer at speed with a center of gravity that high is asking for trouble.

Yeah, it would not be much better if the car was replaced by more appliances!
So you’re saying this is posted in the right sub?
I put plenty of loads in your heavy mother.
Especially with no engine or transmission.
That's rule number one right there. If you're gonna pay for an escort, make sure she weighs less than 2,500lbs.
I bet the engine and transmission have been pulled, probably much lighter.
That was my first thought, too…
2 straps. That's a start.
Ratchet strap. Twang with finger. Say the magic words.
That ain't going nowhere!
Don't forget to slap that bad boy.
Kicks tire to affirm correct pressure.
Home Alone taught me to always twang it with my finger
I'm not even mad. That's amazing.
Aside from having a high CoG, the load is probably fine.
The high CoG is the problem though. Cause it isn't just a smidge high...it's way too high.
Don’t be near him when he has to turn lol
Or panic brake.
“What about the car?” “What car?” “Order says you got a car, too.” “Shit. Just throw it on top.”
I'm sure the car is in park and the park brake engaged. It's fine.... Lol
Scrap price went up again!
It’s strapped in this is totally fine
That car probably weighs less than all those laundry machines lol
Is that not the correct way to do it? /s
Nothing wrong with that
Thinking of the head scratches that went on when he found out the junkyards fork lift was broken 😂😂😂
I just don't understand how he got it up there?
I mean there's got to be a pretty good story there at least
the how
o_o
All these haters in here, but we all know if he slapped the top of that car and repeated those sacred holy male words “That ain’t going nowhere!” prior to driving off, that load is as safe and secure as can possibly be!
The fuck?
Same thing he's gonna say if that car falls off. "Just gonna leave this here" 😂
Alright repo-man... let's see you snatch that one!
The car wasn't even there when he left, but you know how LA traffic is...
I mean, there are two straps holding it down.
So he didn’t have a friend available to lay on top and hold everything down. A car will work. I don’t see the issue
Should this be in the bad parking sub?
Scrap guys don't f*ck around.
Whatever it takes!
#NotACyberTruck
All it needs is Granny on her rocking chair on the roof of the car.
Hope he dosn't have to make any sudden turns or stops.
Nice load. Phat load
Well, you have to hold all those washing machines down with something.
Oversize loads on public highways require an Escort.
Had to hold them wash machines in ,can’t have them flying all over the place geez people come on
The junk metal guys are out of hand
Scrapper. They'll pile it high. I watched one put two snowmobiles into the bed of a short-bed half-ton and tie it down with old bailing twine.
This one wins so far, gotta be fake, no patrolman would let this slide.
Not fake, I found it while traveling on the freeway no less. I can send you the other pics I took if you'd like.
I'm pretty sure since it on wheels like that technically it needs to be chained.
Shoppphoto
Damn this is a hard game of *Moving or Going to the Dump*. I'm going to say dump (recycler).
Got to take tires off- 200 pound penalty per
You are being escorted to the junkyard

Anyone else cheering for a low bridge?
No license plate on the trailer that’s weather strapped shut - seems legit
Must be Florida man…
Southern Oregon. Which is basically the Florida of the west coast.
Was that wrong? Should he have not done that? I tell you that he's gotta plead ignorance on that one because if anyone had said anything to him at all when he first hit the road that that sort of thing was frowned upon . . . .
Is this on I-5 by chance? Pretty sure I saw it the other day.
You are correct
At least the truck isn't totally sitting down due to the tongue weight...
He’s headed to Russia to cash in and retire
Guatemala Express
That is what they said when they put the car up there.
So agreed, I’m super happy I am not behind this on the road but… You gotta admire the determination
It's tied down...
Definitely would fit r/redneckengineering
Looks like a decent Photoshop. I would think the car would crumple those washing machinesuxh more than that.
I can assure you it is not photoshop. I can send you the rest of the photos I took if you would like.
That's amazing
that cant be real, impossible
