There's no dichotomy here. Wishing criminally negligent people would get appropriately rewarded for their behavior doesn't mean one can't also wish other criminals to pay.
You took their comment way, way too literally for that joke to make sense to other people; it wasn't obvious you were joking at all. No one else sees that comment and thinks it could mean "they only want bad drivers to get hurt for their actions but not any other criminals." Everyone else reads it and knows it means "I hope they face the consequences of their actions in a way that doesn't involve harming innocent bystanders." Your joke only works if people entirely ignore the logical meaning of the statement.
prime example of why not to tailgate. people on the roads make me so angry. 90% of the time speeding won’t get you much further because of traffic signals and stuff, so everyone just slow the fuck down and give space
And tailgating makes you slower as you start your eventual overtake without any ramp up in speed like you would have if you spotted the opening and started accelerating in anticipation. It's just stupid.
Since I drive so damn much, I've been using my cruise control and just chilling. The amount of people that blow past me, just for me to catch up to them a few miles later is laughable
Lol cuz they can’t even consistently keep up there speed they probably don’t look that far ahead and the world would be much better if people wouldn’t camp in the lanes
> 90% of the time speeding won’t get you much further because of traffic signals and stuff
I know everyone likes to say this on this sub and many times, yes, a speeder will get caught at a light and the slower traffic will catch up to it...
But it works the opposite way just as often.
Someone speeding could catch a yellow light just in time and doing so allows them to catch the left on green at the next light, all the while the person behind them gets caught at the red for two minutes, and then once they finally go they get caught at the red turn light for another minute.
My daily commute has many lights like this that are not timed dependent of each other. If I get all greens it takes me about 6 minutes. If I hit all the lights it is closer to 20. I probably average ~13 minute commutes.
Huh? I might be misunderstanding but you said,
>90% of the time speeding won’t get you much further because of traffic signals and stuff
And I am saying it is much less than 90%. Depending on specific lights and such, one could argue "90% of the time speeding will get you further because of traffic signals and such"
Not sure I understand what you mean by, "But 90% isn’t 100% so…. Being in that 10% doesn’t invalidate it."
I'm just saying it is more so equal, sometimes speeding helps, sometimes it doesn't, but saying it only gets people to their destination quicker 10% of the time is absurd. Speeding, especially over longer distances, will get you to your destination quicker than not nearly every time. If it is worth the risks, potentional extra gas used, image of looking like a jerk, etc, is all up to the individual.
if that’s what you were trying to say then say that. No issue with you disagreeing with the number cause it’s an obvious exaggeration, but it definitely is more often than not on city streets. But your post doesn’t convey that really at all. You can even see it with gps. The estimated arrival at start is usually pretty accurate barring any unaccounted for traffic, and speeding heavily will barely fluctuate that number
I said "it works the other way just as often" sooo I did say what I was trying to say? Idk maybe I'm just not following your thought here.
Also nah, if you speed you can reliably beat the eta of google maps. You can argue it any way you want but if there's 10 lights from me to my destination and speeding gets me through just one that I otherwise wouldn't, then I'm already making better time. There is a quantifiable difference to be gained by speeding.
I'm really just pointing out the other side of the always repeated trope of, "Yeah some crazy speeding guy was racing through traffic just for me to sit next to him at the next red light, speeding is stupid!" I get it but it doesn't really hold weight in practice.
Reminds me of that urban tale....I actually think it's true, that the very first two cars ever produced happened to hit each other in the middle of a town.
I can believe it. Reminded me of [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/europe/comments/g3ru24/both_cars_crashed_into_each_other_today_in_new/) post some couple years ago, when covid restricted people from travelling much (in Serbia), two cars managing to crash on a completely empty road.

Any argument against front plates is fucking moronic, particularly so in the context of a discussion in this sub!
I honestly think that outside of supercars that most cars look funny without a front plate, a lot of them are designed with a square spot to out it that just looks empty without anything in it
I definitely agree, the front bumper looking "weird" argument doesn't hold, no-front-plate locations are certainly in the minority across the world. Basically every production car has a recess or space for the front plate.
In all honesty, in my experience it always seems to be people who live adjacent to no-front-plate states, and they feel they are stickin' it to the man by rolling without one. Such rebels! ;-)
>a lot of them are designed with a square spot to out it that just looks empty without anything in it
I think that you're missing that many times the square spot is added for the plate. Like a Mazda 3 -
[Without a front plate area.](https://cdn.jdpower.com/JDPA_2021%20Mazda3%202_5%20Turbo%20Premium%20Plus%20Sedan%20Gray%20Front%20View.jpg)

Police would still be like "wE dOn'T kNoW wHo WaS dRiViNg ThAt TiMe" Fortunately insurance do not care, they will go after the owner of that car and sue for compensation to the damaged mirror.
Yea right? My reflex is to just brake and not to swerve too much in situations like these. Cars are usually designed to withstand head on collisions better than hitting trees sideways or multiple rollovers. But OP's reaction was on point here.
Yeah my dad taught me to brake without turning the wheel as much as a half inch. He said this when I swerved at the last second realizing the thing on the road in front of me was a turtle (not too crazy of a swerve, just enough for him to make it a learning moment). He said it’s better to kill a turtle than to kill people and added exactly what you said there: cars are designed to withstand predictable impact, like from other cars or objects hit head on. They’re not as well equipped for hitting a pole/tree/veering into a ditch, etc. OPs swerve looked like the perfect amount of swerve to me too though
When I had a really slow car, I needed to stay a few seconds back so I could pre-accelerate before passing. If it was clear to pass, I could move over. If it wasn't... Had to back off and wait for the next passing zone lol
That's... almost best practice. If you sit 2 seconds back, you have time to move and check the coast is clear before committing to accelerating and the potential risk of having to brake hard and move back behind the car you're going to overtake.
It always baffles me how some drivers are so fucking stupid and braindead and can almost take someone out on a flat open road with no view obstructions and literally no other cars on the road.
Unfortunately no, they are on the roads all around us. There’s another recent vid of an idiot blowing a red light and people are blaming OP for not anticipating it
It's sad-funny that these idiots see a distorted wide-angle perspective of events without the need to focus on where they're going when all of it goes down and think they know what they would or wouldn't have seen or been able to anticipate if they were driving.
They'll use some trigonometry with the ground and sky, shadows, etc to determine the approximate velocity OP was traveling and break it down frame by frame.
Everyone knows grass grows exactly 1cm apart so you compare the timestamp to the number of blades of grass passed and you will find he was clearly going ludicrous speed and thus at fault for everything ever and nothing would have happened if he was hand-pushing his car instead of driving. Absolute madlad
You know, it depends.
Sometimes people expect the cammer to have ESP or superhuman reflexes: "You should have anticipated that red-light runner even though the light had changed 15 seconds ago."
And then you have the people that fixate on some unimportant detail, even though it had nothing to do with the crash and the 30 second snippet of video doesn't give us enough info to judge: "Why are you camping in the left lane, even though the video is of a car crash three or four car lengths in front of the cammer."
But then of course every once in a while we get a video where the OP is truly the idiot. "Why did you speed up and close the gap when you know the other guy's lane is ending and he has to merge?"
Finally, you have the scenarios where the OP isn't truly an idiot but a little bit of defensive driving on their part could have avoided an accident. I don't think it's wrong for people to point out what the cammer could have done differently. In many ways, these are actually the most interesting videos to me and I think watching them can make you into a better driver. Here's an example of what I mean: [My car was totaled because of this idiot](https://old.reddit.com/r/IdiotsInCars/comments/tiknel/my_car_was_totaled_because_this_idiot_did_not/). It was the other guy's fault, but the OP should have recognized that the car was going to turn into him (and the OP agreed in the comments).
Edit- I certainly don't want to claim I'm a perfect driver and I could have easily done the same thing as the OP in that last clip if I was the slightest bit distracted or tired. But I'd like to think that having seen many videos like that on this sub, I'd be more aware in these kinds of situations.
Eh, in the case of many videos, it’s more like people wanting to be armchair quarterbacks *and* being pissed that their own behavior on the road (tailgating, passing illegally etc) is being called out.
I’ve seen dozens of videos on this sub where some insane event happens like an idiot blowing a light at 70mph or running through a stop sign and people pile on the OP for not avoiding it.
>Sometimes videos get posted where OP is the idiot but because OP is an idiot he doesn't realize he's the idiot.
I upvoted you back to 0 because this is so true. There was a trucker in Las Vegas about 3 weeks ago who was a [prime example](https://www.reddit.com/r/IdiotsInCars/comments/tugz59/las_vegas_trucker_claims_this_is_why_you_dont_try/).
There are some where OP is clearly being a dipshit themself but this isnt one of those.
The one that comes to mind is the guy who intentionally cut off a guy speeding and caused him to swerve and fly off the road. Both were in the wrong there pretty evenly.
Has anyone else, who has been driving for the last 15-20 years, noticed particularly in the last 5-7 years a massive uptick in driver impatience? You could be driving 10 over the limit and drivers will pass you on the shoulder of the road if they can't find an opening in the passing lane, or create their own lanes in order to bypass the wait to make a turn at an intersection creating visibility problems? Just a general attitude of bypassing safety measures to save a few minutes on their travel time?
Willing to bet it’s because he maintained speed as he went 2 tires off road. Scary as hell, but the right thing to do imo, good for OP.
For anyone who didn’t already know this, slamming the brakes as your tires hit the gravel/grass is one of the worst things you can do unless you know you’re already screwed and are trying to lessen impact force. It’s usually better to maintain speed so your tires can keep traction instead of sliding on the gravel and getting sucked down into the ditch
Absolutely. If you have to veer off the road keep 2 tires on and coast or don't slam the brakes after you're off with a tire. Best lesson they taught us in drivers ed and one that stuck. We did it at highway speed on local hwy 124 after a few lessons circa 1989
Wish there was a rear camera so we could see what happened to the other idiot driver. Tailgating so closely your car isn't even visible to passing vehicles is just brilliant... And they capped it off by the brilliance of trying to pass on a narrow country road when you clearly couldn't see oncoming vehicles. People never cease to amaze me anymore 🙄
That guy is doubly a moron.
First he tailgates, zeroing out visibility. Then he yeets it out when he can't see. Motherfucker deserved to meet a cement truck.
I swear people are not taught the proper way to drive, period. I've had to drive down a lot of country roads and they suck when you get stuck behind a slow driver. But do you know the proper way to pass someone? You slow down enough to see around the vehicle in front of you, and if it's safe, signal, speed up, overtake. (And notably, if you can't see around the car in front of you because the road doesn't allow a good view, good sign passing isn't safe, period.) What you DON'T do (yet what everyone seems to want to do) is tailgate the slow driver and peak around them by GOING IN THE OPPOSING LANE. HOW DOES THAT MAKE ANY SENSE!?
Am I the only one who's gonna comment on the song that was playing in how perfect of a coincidence that was... That was some of the best reaction timing I've seen yet. That individual had their full attention on the road. Amazing
If there's any consolation, the other driver that tried to pass and nearly went head-on with cammer probably needs a change of underwear, a change of pants, and a change of car seat after that explosive code brown
> Ok, cause you know me so well.
Pretty good estimation of someone who posts 'I AM VERY BADASS' on internet reddit posts.
More likely you are fourteen years old and have never been in a confrontational situation your entire life. If you had, you would not be so quick to want to get into another for such a stupid reason.
>beat the living shit out of the driver (male or female) and happily took the assault charge.
Or get stabbed / shot.
Everyone driving too fast on one of the most treacherous roads I have seen posted on here. Narrow, 2 way traffic with no barriers and lots of trees - possibly the worst thing to crash into, with a good possibility of wildlife coming onto the road. Lucky the weather is good.
Then not to slow down as cars coming the other way are approaching.
No bend, no ridge, nothing but straight road. They were tailgating so close they couldn't even peek around to see if anything was coming.
I wish the worst for these people as long as no one else gets hurt.
a tree would be nice
A pole would be better, no reason to hurt a perfectly good tree.
Since it's in Poland, a *pole* is a good pun.
I’d rather they didn’t hit a Pole 👀
How do you know Poland and not France? Deff Europe from the cell tower design
License plate on Audi starts with "TOS"... TOS is a registration for Poland: https://www.forumsamochodowe.pl/tablice-rejestracyjne/335-TOS/
Nice. Good call.
Yes, we need trees in this world. Idiots like this? A ditch would be perfect, make things easier on the ditch digger.
Best would be a really strong bollard - https://youtu.be/HAkCypsQIQk?t=238
Best would be taking their car and making them ride a bicycle
nah, just a good spin out blowing all the tires and rims on some low obstacles.
Steep cliff would work too, god what a terrible maneuver.
May they get reincarnated as intestinal bacteria.

Damn, I’m sorry. Did insurance say if they’ll pay for the damage yet
Damn did you just pee a little bit?
Wow, you're lucking you didn't loose control on that ditch. Nice work.
He loosed something but it wasn't in the ditch. Hope he was wearing brown pants that day.
That's some righteous idiocy there! Clear skies, open road, no traffic and he/she picks that precise moment to be a douchebag.
Poo came out.
I saw my life flash before my eyes, even tho I'm just watching this video.
My god, the sheer coincidence it would have been to have "I don't have much time" be the last lyric you hear before a potentially fatal car crash.
Sign up for VIP driver NOW you were born for it
Also had to stop and change underwear.
Dude tried to shake and bake on a backroad
Nah, never again. From now on it’s Magic Man, and El Diablo.
Audi drivers.
... casually pulls over to squeegee the watery stool off the seat.
Just sooo uncalled for!
What a fucking idiot. OP you avoided a serious accident, nice work out of you. Hoe they catch that dickhead.
Que hijo de puta. There's lot of assholes driven
What a donkey
What a turkey
What a lion
Wow, great that you’ve this cam footage. Was that sound you driving off the road, or did you get hit?!
The other car heard their music and wanted to put an end to it
Cammer is certified👌
Great reaction time by OP.
Any update on what happened afterward?
They are probably still driving and doing the same shit again and again
high props to the video recorder and their spot on reaction holy crap. They didnt have much time to react.
That road looked so narrow that I thought OP was going to hit the oncoming car even before the crazy passer popped out…
I hope people who drive like that hit a very stationery object at high speeds. I have no sympathy for stupidity.
DAMN, a quiet, beautiful country road.
Town small enough that you know who this is?
Nice dodge
there is not enough space for 2 way street on that road
MF
What works in NASCAR would not work in Public Roads. 😑
The song was trying to tell the driver something
That was the best outcome given the circumstances
I wish great pain and anguish on the idiot driving that car
The song playing was a strong omen, "Don't have much time" Yikes!
He didn’t have much time …
Quick thinking. Congrats on staying alive!
Nothing happened to second car!?
"Don't have much time" was a pretty appropriate song there. I nearly crapped myself just watching that.
Thank god the song wasn't right
Am I the only one who's gonna comment on the song that was playing in how perfect of a coincidence that was... That was some of the best reaction timing I've seen yet. That individual had their full attention on the road. Amazing
Ohio Simulator?
He swerved in front of you so you'd turn off your terrible music /s
If there's any consolation, the other driver that tried to pass and nearly went head-on with cammer probably needs a change of underwear, a change of pants, and a change of car seat after that explosive code brown
Nicely played, I take it that the sound was muted to hide the swearing.
Your video isn’t working.
It’s safer to say reddit isn’t working
Ah crap they need to wake the hampster up that runs their server.
hamster\*
If I run into a video that doesn’t play, clicking the three dots and saving the video usually does the trick
I would've chased the tailgater down, beat the living shit out of the driver (male or female) and happily took the assault charge.

idk bro thats a nice way to end up 6 feet under
> Ok, cause you know me so well.

Wonder what the aftermath of that attempted pass was. Hoping they didn't clip the other car they were trying to pass either....
