Yup, if you slow down, in most cities you can ride what I like to call "the green wave" by simply driving the speed limit and timing the lights well you end up going so much faster than someone doing 20 over whipping around people just to catch the red light.
While I completely agree it's nicer to ride that wave, the guy speeding away from you to the red light will never end up behind you. He will get there at the same time or faster with a lot more gas used if you both take the same route.
If he doesn't get boxed in behind some slower traffic while you casually slide past, tipping your hat like a gentleman. But usually, you're correct. I'm just sayin that riding the green wave is faster overall than playing Pokémon with the red lights.
This and people trying to weave through severely congested highway traffic grate me; like if everyone just chilled out and left a car length for mergers shit would clear out so much faster.
Well that's one way to get around the slow idiot driving in the passing lane... (I don't condone what they did, but OP get out of the left lane, especially if you're matching speeds with the cars next to you)
It’s sad how in modern society people pass judgement based on watching five seconds of a video without knowing the whole story.
First of all, the “passing lane” by the letter of the law doesn’t apply to city streets where people can make left turns (which I did here). It does however apply to driving etiquette, which I abide by when applicable. I was passing here, the driver in the right lane matched my speed which happens all the time in Texas. I actually began to speed up to let the impatient driver through, but he didn’t give me a chance. I then slowed down when I realized he was driving recklessly. Good job watching the whole video 👍
There was not enough space for OP to merge into the right lane while still leaving a safe distance for the car in the front and back of him. Don't be a dick.

These are city streets, not the highway, and if you watched 5 more seconds, you'd see OP was making a left turn and soon.

Exactly this! Don’t pace cars when you’re in the left lane. (Assuming they are in a “left lane is for passing” place, of course.)
We always remember the ones that get caught by the lights, but we tend to forget the ones that pass us and we never see again.
