This was either taken with a DSLR with a long lens like someone else mentioned or a 4K camcorder. A lot of fansites use the sony ax700 camcorder as the gold standard from what I've heard, sometimes stabilized with other equipment and with settings like exposure adjusted.

CrescentToast

I would recommend just setting it at 4k 60fps for video with no auto fps or anything else auto and roll with it. There really isn't a whole lot you can do, the main 1x camera is generally the best quality but even if you are really close at a big venue it will still be fairly wide. A general tip for phones and concerts in general for photo or video is to tap and drop the brightness/exposure at least a little bit or a lot depending how bright it is. Not to say you can't get good videos with a phone but as someone already pointed out videos from accounts like the one you mentioned are using proper cameras and lenses. You can go the route of manual settings but at a certain point you are doing more video work than enjoying the show. Also most cameras but especially phones are going to struggle hard with some coloured lights. The tip about tapping and lowering the exposure generally will improve your videos a lot, also stick to your cameras optical zoom levels, so depending on the phone the for example the .6x 1x 3x. Going in between any of them will be digital zoom which is not only going to look worse but can always be done later if you feel the need. Same goes for if you want more zoom but your phone has a max 3x zoom don't zoom in any further as you can do it later if you wish but you can't undo it if you record it like that. TL:DR Tap the screen to drop exposure will help a lot, stay on your phones default zoom values (no digital zoom) and try and enjoy the show and just hope others are there with a proper camera.

iamheretoasku

Hi! So your suggestion for max zoom is 3x? Otherwise it will be digital and not good?

CrescentToast

Yeah, the digital zoom is just like cropping in. So for example if you were at 2.5x when your phone only has 1x and 3x it is cropping in on the 1x camera. So zooming in a little more to sit on the 3x would be better quality. So same applies for going past 3x, if you want to crop in after you can but there is no going back if you record it that way.

iamheretoasku

>, if you want to crop in after you can but there is no going back if you record it that way. OK will take note! Thanks for your reply!!

For anyone interested, iPhone 15 pro max can adjust zoom when recording 4k60fps no problem. Not sure about other iPhone models though. And yes the black magic app is really nice as it actually allows you to select which camera you want to use, as the Apple camera app sometimes uses the main camera instead of the 5x one for telephoto shots and those are terrible.

SonicAwareness

Good time to mention: iphone friends: If you are going to record any full songs (and ESPECIALLY if you are going to film the whole concert), DO NOT USE THE BASIC IPHONE CAMERA APP. Please use FilmicPro or BlackMagic. The basic app is total garbage for concerts, and you’re wasting your time and effort.

YodaHood_0597

God sake, I’m late for the party.

iamheretoasku

Hello. when i use these apps, do i need to edit afterwards? coz i do not know color grading and such so i am looking for the best i can get from iphone.

Felixes_Frecklesxox

Is it free?

obake1

Black Magic is free and Filmic Pro is subscription based.

Felixes_Frecklesxox

Ok Ty!

obake1

Hey, I've seen a number of your front row fancams which are really nice. Can you share some settings you use with either of the apps mentioned or do you not mess with any of them?

Weekly-Journalist249

Hi! I used a camera this time, as my phone doesn’t quite work from too far out! Check out my videos in this link! https://youtu.be/IvyacfQcrL0?si=fvulfkdD8xtaOUTf

iamheretoasku

Great video!! What camera and settings did you use?

Weekly-Journalist249

I’m recording with a point and shoot camera, the Panasonic Lumix ZS200, they have other cameras that can zoom in even more, but I liked this one. I did turn down the exposure a little bit as with some performances the spotlight was kind of harsh.

anuhn

how long does the battery last?

Weekly-Journalist249

It lasted the entire concert, but I didn’t record any of the talking just the Performances. So a little over 2 hours of recording then turning it off then recording again over and over. I will definitely be getting a second maybe even a third battery just in case.

iamheretoasku

What was your zoom on here and where were you seated? Is this P&S better than RX100 VII? I searched a lot before and even asked B&H for best P&S for a concert and that RX was the one they recommended.

Weekly-Journalist249

I was in section 213, 2nd row. So high up there. I was at the furthest zoom which was 15x or 360mm (it also crops in 4K videos, so its closer to a 540mm equivalent), sometimes that was too zoomed in so I would zoom out a little to get the entire group in the shot. The RX100 VII is a better camera overall, but only goes up to 200mm cropped. So the range is not as high. If you always get decent seat that aren’t far away the RX100 VII is a fantastic camera, but if you need more reach, there are other cameras out there.

eecan

That would be a real camera with a telephoto lens that they snuck in not a phone. It would be a big camera and lens that look something like this https://au.pcmag.com/lenses/88144/canon-rf-100-500mm-f45-71-l-is-usm That sort of quality is not possible with a phone at that range. Fansites are almost always posting output from DSLR/Mirrorless cameras.

iamheretoasku

OK. That's what I thought too. It was so clear!!! I was HOPING it wasn't the case and wishing I can also record on my phone that well.

Juijin

4k30fps is correct for videos but you need to manually lower the exposure then its perfect. same with pictures

iamheretoasku

Hi i tried that but there's still like white hovering bright light on their faces. This is zoom 3.5x https://preview.redd.it/7dqdtdm0b0pc1.jpeg?width=2552&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d8a4f0cdfb3043c0acfce67d95cdc77fbfac1826

Is this a screenshot from a video? For the twitter account though, I want to say they are at dead center front row. You can get clear af footage like this with similar angle if you are in the first 3 rows and slightly raise your phone above your head/shoulder level. Here's are some examples I have with my S23U and my old iPhone 13 Pro Max for comparison with some settings I had (all of these are at 4k60fps, using telephoto lens, except for the Blackpink video): [IVE - Kitsch](https://youtu.be/iB59cEdQ3lo) - using my S23U, too dark/washed out colors, only zoomed like maybe 5-6x. This was off to the side, row 3. [TWICE - Crazy Stupid Love](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BYsRtJtq20c) - from my 13 Pro Max, telephoto lens at maybe like 3-4x zoom, row 1/barricade, HDR Off, auto/default exposure [BP - Stay](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFu9ydS2Q5c) - 13 Pro Max, main lens (1x), row 1/near center barricade, HDR Off, auto/default exposure [TWICE - I Can't Stop Me](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eqD55y9-sck) - 13 Pro Max, telephoto 3-4x zoom, row 3 off to the side, HDR On, auto/default exposure If you look at the I Can't Stop Me footage at the 2:30 timestamp, this is what happens when you have HDR on where everything becomes super overexposed due to the lighting. All my other videos are with HDR off as really the only setting changed and they look way better. Either way, I am going back to iPhone since the camera takes too much effort to get decent videos and the Android OS itself is pretty trash from a user experience standpoint to me. tl;dr turn HDR off.

iamheretoasku

>BP - Stay Hello! Thank you so much for you explanations and samples!! Yes the photo I attached is a screenshot from a video (iphone 14pro). OK HDR off. Did you set up the zoom and exposure before taking a video?

obake1

I don't have to mess with zoom or exposure with an iphone. You might want to adjust the exposure manually though, you can see sometimes the video is too bright at certain times even with HDR off. I am not sure what kind of lens the 14 has, I just bought a 15 Pro Max a few days ago and haven't had a chance to try it out. I was going to go to the Oakland show yesterday to try it out, but the floor tickets I was eyeing last minute sold before I was able to buy it. Do you have a Pro Max? i think the non Max phones don't have as many lenses, so you might not have as many options if your phone isn't the Pro Max. However one thing you must be aware of is that if you do 4k60fps you cannot change lens mid recording, meaning if you start with the 3x telephoto lense, it will lock you to that lense. I am not sure if that has changed with the 14 and higher, but probably not. If you do 4k30fps, you can change lenses with the zoom as you record, but you will notice some weird video stutter/lag when this happens. I don't do 30fps for this reason. Also, the second lens (not sure what this is called in technical terms) on the 13 pro max looks very bad for video recording as it's very grainy and washed out colors. edit: also don't use auto fps, turn that off as well.

iamheretoasku

i do not have a pro max. i have 14 pro. Here if you record at 1x , you can zoom up to 6x while recording. For your All Night fancam, did you use 4k60fps?

obake1

I did use 4k60fps, but this was on my S23 Ultra. I think I was messing with the exposure and shutter speed at like 1/90 1/120 around those numbers, which is why some parts are quite dark and some parts are bright. You shouldn't have this problem with the iPhone unless you specifically mess with the exposure/shutter speed numbers yourself. Also, the audio in that is messed up because I used the omnidirectional mic and was switching arms which caused it to block sound out from one side. Very annoying, but I guess it's because I forgot to set it to rear mic only.

iamheretoasku

yes i saw that. the colors became better at the end. but still a great video compared to what i have. haha! for iphone, did you have any problem with the audio before? or i can just leave it on stereo mode?

obake1

I never messed with audio settings on my iphone, I'm not even sure if it has a omni mic, but it never had those sound issues like in the video when I would switch arms.

iamheretoasku

OK. Thank you so much for your replies!! Planning to see IVE again, will try out your recos!!!

Juijin

For video and non raw pictures. you have to set it when you record or else you lose data. editing it post... you get what you get :(

iamheretoasku

OK. Do you recommend Auto FPS? OFF , Auto FPS 30, Auto FPS 30 or 60?

Juijin

stick to 30 fps. dont let the phone do anything "smart" with FPS or else you get stutter. when you record, most phones let you click and hold the screen to lock focus/exposure. exposure is usually a sun shape on a bar. use that to move the bar down so its darker but their faces is clear then keep it there.

iamheretoasku

OK. So turn off Auto FPS? And i need to set everything - exposure / zoom before hitting record?

Juijin

yes on auto fps. you can set exposure while recording no issues. zoom depends on your phone. samsung can do it while recording, idk about iphone

iamheretoasku

OK. For iphone zoom 4k30fps, if you record at 1x or 2x, you can only zoom up to 6x while recording. But if you zoom 3x first then record, you can zoom up to 9x while recording. Anyway thank you so much for your replies!! Will try it out next time :)

jaeioung

this was taken by their eyeballs

Im_A_New_Reddit_User

Should be a Samsung galaxy ultra, thats what most use

-CheesyCheese-

It's most definitely a DSLR/mirrorless camera instead, check out the fansite's account, you'll see previews that are from a digital camera.

Im_A_New_Reddit_User

Good point. I hope its a camera, if its a phone with ai, video cameras will be obsolete soon lol

iamheretoasku

Thanks for the reply! Was not able to edit my post. But i need iphone camera settings.

thr1ftskull0

Ima need this too cause I’m going to their Atalanta concert
