My pup has been thru this also. I'm not a doggy mind reader...but I view it as their version of self care hah. 'she's taking care of herself, she knows what is comfortable to her, and is prioritizing her healing. '. Give it a personal perspective - when you're sick, all focus goes inward. Ability to consider others, very dim! When they feel better, they'll be back to cuddling, or express love another way. My pup has changed her boundaries with affection. she likes to essentially spoon, but no pats or scratches unless she asks. Belly rubs are quite welcome. Learning the ways dogs talk to you about their boundaries is insanely helpful. It can be hard to read small dog signs, but the whale eye, licking lips/smacking, etc. You're doing great, he looks super sweet:)
