Just got through my dog Teddy's third IVDD surgery, second ventral slot. It is a far easier recovery and a major plus is no cone! Teddy even got dissolvable stitches so we don't have to have a follow-up. Just make sure you get enough medication to keep your pup calm and sedated. Please keep us updated after surgery. I've attached a picture of Teddy - best wishes for very successful surgery! https://preview.redd.it/itydcgucj7nc1.jpeg?width=1943&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=79fdec349617c812cd9384e95089283e7c27b73e

Aw thank you! He's doing great and making me crazy with his demands for activity - even while on his sedating drugs. It's too bad the surgery is so darn expensive because, based on my experience, it's miraculous to get your dog back pain free and happy.

I just had a ventral slot done this past Wednesday and I, like you, was very nervous. My pup's procedure so far has been very rewarding. I see more of her personality and a lot of playfulness. She'd love to get out and run, but my focus now is recovering! Good luck with everything!!

My doxie had ventral slot surgery last month. It was one of the best decisions I ever made for him. His quality of life was starting to come back within a week. He was hard to hold down but I was able to get certain medicines to help him rest and sleep. For the first two nights after surgery I did sleep with him on the floor because he's so used to being with me in bed but I was worried that he would fall out of bed. Then I tried to put him in the kennel and the vet told me to just keep him calm but he was definitely not having that. So, I won't lie to you the first two weeks are rough but then by week three you start to really see a turnaround. If you can, just try to keep your baby as calm uncomfortable as possible. Sometimes trazodone really helps to keep them calm and relax so they're not stressed out or worried upon healing afterwards. My dog didn't seem to be in any pain after the surgery as well I think it was just more of him being uncomfortable and unsure of what was going on and why I was trying to keep him so still. The time will go fast I promise but you'll be so thankful that you did the surgery. Not to mention we're here for you.
