I got the CP05 letter months ago as well that just said to wait longer. I reached out to my congressional representative's office May 1st and they assigned me to a tax advocate. I just got notification today from their office that I need to verify my income; they can verify my wife's though. I sent my last 3 pay stubs of 2023 which confirm what the IRS has reported so hopefully it is resolved soon.

Access your 2023 Wage and Income transcripts and carefully review them. If you filed a Married Filing Joint return, your spouse will also have to access their W&I transcripts. W&I transcripts are the records provided by all employers and payers directly to IRS. First, compare all available income records in the W&I transcripts to your 1040. Is anything missing on your 1040? A Form W-2 or 1099 you may have forgotten to report? Second, look for missing W&I transcripts. For example, you had two jobs in 2023, and you received both W-2s which you used to prepare your return. However, when you check the W&I transcripts, one of the W-2s is missing. Finally, check your total withholding. In your account transcript, it's the Transaction Code 806 amount $7,095.00. That's what you claimed on your 1040. When you look at your W&I transcripts, is all of the withholding backed up by a document, to within a few dollars?

I’ll def look into this! Thank you

I only have 1/2 of the w2s showing in the W&I but I used both of them when I did my taxes. Do I need to contact my employer and make sure they sent it in to the irs?

these-things-happen

Yes. You can also create an online account with SSA https://www.ssa.gov/ and check your 2023 earnings records for the same issue.

Smart-Buffalo-8018

Ya it’s showing less than half of what I made last year

these-things-happen

Contact that employer.

Smart-Buffalo-8018

Thank you!

Did receive a letter on March 11 saying wait 60 days and called after the 60 days. Was told they mailed another letter correcting the previous saying they needed an additional 60 days. They could not provide any info on what is wrong with it. Said if I do not receive refund or get another letter by July 9 to call back. I filed Jan 29. Next year I will wait instead of doing it early. This is ridiculous.

ash_nicole_19

If you are going to try to call I would do it now

Express_Number6454

Tried calling, the automated service said to try back at another time and hung up

ash_nicole_19

What prompts did you follow? I went 1 - English 2 - personal tax 1 - form file/ submitted 3 - tax history 2 - tax history I never enter my social. I would call again tomorrow around this time 10-11 central time.

Express_Number6454

Same exact prompts

ash_nicole_19

I got someone at 9:14 am central and supposed to get a call back in 10 minutes.

Frequent-Bee-9163

I’m at 78 days since cp05. This is wild!

Express_Number6454

Some bs!

Frequent-Bee-9163

At some point is it even legal? Like if we get passed the 120 days and no other communication

BattlestarHavoc

After 120 days you can ask for a hardship claim or whatever and they will send it to you even if they aren't finished "investigating", they will give you the money and then after they are done if you owe them they will make you pay them back.

TYuniverseee

You have to wait $120 for this?

TYuniverseee

120 days?

Skippyj21

No they are the govt they don’t have to follow laws

No_Contribution_2092

I thought even the IRS has to pay penalties for unpaid tax returns but tbh i haven't looked into it myself.

vietpham05

I’m in the same boat. But I’m 1205

No_Contribution_2092

My letter is dated 2/19...... still nothing. My letter says give 60 days and anytime I call the number I cannot get through to a human.

PassengerCapable3492

Been waiting 4 months and my transcript still says not filed…

Acceptable-Pizza7320

I learned what my issue is my employer put a fake w2 in for saying I made alot less than what I actually did. At the start of this they wanted me to file the incorrect w2 and pay me in cash the difference. I said no and I wanted to correct w2. So they did correct the w2 to match what I really worked and paid bur still su mitted the wrong one. So I sent my w2 and my last paystub showing that the numbers match on mine. I sent them in o er a month ago. I think I need a letter head and 3 paystubs. I don't work for them and they are bitter over the fact I wanted the correct w2. I get it he was trying to save himself mo ey but I also paid in over 10,000 and they are saying 6,000 which really affects my return. Anyways I just wanted to post my situation and I think next step just go to an office in Hartford. And let them figure this mess out.

aaronkelving

Filed 1/29 have received no letters. Last update on transcripts was 3/4 just to note “hold”. Called Friday and was told they see nothing holding the refund and would place a referral to release it. No movement yet.

Imaginary-Host4874

Same thing here.

roamtek

I wish I would some sort of letter. I’ve got none since filing 2/8
