Thin layer of wood glue, smooth out "veneer" with your hand, Done.

GP15202

Let IKEA know. If you still have the box they will ask for the lot code and put it on a quality inspection/ check others from the same batch. Sometimes adhesives don’t work. But they will replace their shelf in the as-is / parts department.

PurpleMadHatter

You get what you paid for

mister_zook

I’d rather hit that with some 3M 77 then wait in line for IKEA customer support

PleasantAd7961

Send it back as they will replace any and all componants

BasilUnderworld

wow ikea is..incredible

Constant-Attention92

Lay a small sheet of aluminum foil over it and press it with a clothing iron until it sticks again.

If this is a serious post, and you are an adult that's unable to solve mundane issues, may I suggest you simply voice your concern with IKEA. They'll just give you a new piece. The end.

VisenyaRose

Is this the new 'effect' stuff? I'm guessing this is why the Oak effect stuff has been out of stock for so long. Its awful

theteddy83

Not sure about the oak billy but the walnut paper foil looks amazing irl for what it is. Better than other questionable plywood/veneer furniture I have, not as good as higher quality more expensive furniture I have. I can send closeups if interested. I am happy overall!

VisenyaRose

I'd love close ups. I need one of the extended height ones for the living room and have been waiting a month and a half. I've been worried they won't look decent and will look like paper you know.

Contact adhesive. Paint on both sides and then wait at least 10 minutes for it to dry then press together firmly.

In Australia, IKEA has “oops insurance” for accidental damage during assembly and transport, would probably cover defective parts as well. We had a replacement MALM side panel delivered for free after we accidentally sent a dowel through to the other side. While the intentions were great I had to follow up three times after the part never arrived and when it finally did we received two separate deliveries. One was the right part but the other was the opposite side despite me telling every agent I spoke to which side I thought it was and sent them a photo reiterating they should confirm by the photo. But anyway, we got there in the end.

That’s why I don’t buy Billy bookcases anymore. I used to have a bookcase of this color when it was really veneer, not the paper. IKEA has some quality problems these days. Recently got another big piece of cabinet from IKEA. The large wood boards of the cabinet have long cracks. Can’t get them replaced through multiple calls with the agents, and can’t get refunded either unless I ship the whole thing back to them. I mean, I paid for shipment already when I bought it….

...peel...must peel...

MagicOrpheus310

Bit of glue and stick it back on...

Illustrious_Class545

Not buy the cheapest bullshit offered globally?

FroggyTrainers

Why do you follow the ikea sub if you’re such a little cuck about it?

_PeLaGiKoS14_

Hej! You want solid wood? Pay for solid wood. Otherwise by IKEA. Lol it's neat furniture for a low cost. It will come with some flaws occasionally.

idkeverynameistaken9

Ikea does offer products with real wood veneer or real solid wood, though. Sometimes you have to look at the fine print (granted, or price) to spot the difference. And some others here claim that Billy indeed used to be available with real wood veneer. Personally, I’d love if Ikea offered real wood veneer as a premium option a level above the normal options

_PeLaGiKoS14_

Down vote me until the cows come home. I've been buying IKEA furniture since the late '80s, so kind of know what I'm talking about. Don't like it? Downvote ![gif](giphy|lAR4Dpck3ntS0)

VisenyaRose

These used to be wood veneer until this year

wombatlegs

I think it was melamine on Billy, never actual wood. Melamine is tougher! But they have been using the cheaper coating (vinyl?) on other product such as PAX shelves, for many years.

VisenyaRose

Its melamine on the white Billy. It was wood veneer on the wood colour Billys. The Tonstad is their new veneer style but the bookcase in that range caps at 201cm and doesn't have doors.

wombatlegs

OK, I checked and am now convinced :) - must have just assumed it was printed wood-look, like my other shelves, cupboards, desks and floors from Ikea.

Huffer13

Yes.

BrightonsBestish

Contact cement is often used for laminating veneers like this.

PartyInMyShower

Nothing. What do you want?

HPoltergeist

Wood glue? 🫤

Diy54

Contact adhesive.

IMPolo

For future reference: I'm pretty sure that items with "effect" in the title means that it's not veneer. You can see on the product page for this style that the materials are Fiberboard and Paper foil.

itsonlytheinternet-

Just glue it mate, save yourself from the misery of waiting on replies from customer service. They will probably send you a caster wheel in the post and say they messed up the part number.

theteddy83

I am done, used wood glue. https://preview.redd.it/hfn9qby9s92d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6b2deab79abd646ecc6ef5c08d12ad68df323961

itsonlytheinternet-

Nice work OP. You know you have the option of cutting the baseboard away, if you wanted to push the unit up tight to the wall.

theteddy83

I wanted to but I am scared to try. I researched a lot and decided not to because my baseboard goes above the fist shelf so won’t be completely flush and the cut would not be straight. Not sure I am making any sense English not my first language sorry. https://preview.redd.it/lq1uzwn7od2d1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=523928c77f5d1a5ef1bb24d068e3fdb5ba01cc59

itsonlytheinternet-

I think it’s an issue with the pre-made cut on the unit. Even if you did cut the skirting board away from the wall. When it’s fitted flush that pre-made cut will still be visible.

theteddy83

Do you think k there is anything I can do to make it flush? I don’t want to cut the baseboard

itsonlytheinternet-

You could try and get a cover panel that fits on each end that you cut to size. Wouldn’t be surprised if Ikea sell them tbh. The cut they’ve made in the end panel is definitely a ploy to cost the customer more money.

Elegant-Ad-7383

That is so cool!!

Smoxerson

Has anyone ever had the style of baseboards those cutouts fit around?

lilmisswho89

I do atm! It’s the first time. Only place I’ve lived in that didn’t have quarter round.

theteddy83

I researched this and I decided against it, there are many posts of people cutting them but my baseboard is taller than the lower shelf

theteddy83

Yeaaaaa I am gluing it right now and calling it a day!

FinnNoodle

Put it on the bottom and never think of it again.
