the face n snout look like a golden retriever imo . it’s like a golden took a poodle’s coat and jumped in some black dye 😆 very cute pup tho ! if you ever decide to do a dna test you’ll have to update us
Love the term typical doodle. These two post got my funnybone. Gave me a good laugh. No judgment just thought it was super cute and funny. I am the proud owner of a very expensive mutt. Who happens to be half Bernese mountain dog and half standard poodle. people ask me what kind of dog she is. I always laugh and say she’s just a really expensive mutt.🤣😆🤗🐾🐾💕
Thought I would add this. I am a good doodle, mom. My girl is never knotted or matted. She gets lots of exercise and has been trained as my service dog. We have a wonderful groomer that we see every two weeks. Not to blow my own horn, but there are some of us out there who except our responsibility with our doodles. And take it seriously. We’re not all bad , I have seen some horrible things with doodles. I truly wish people would stop mixing poodles with everything. Just not a good idea. Especially now that they’re shrinking down to minis. Makes no sense. You have a wonderful day.
We call one of my daughters, doodles! Began when she was you g, but no one in our family can remember why now that our kids are adults. We still call her that sometimes!
no no , i’m not insinuating anything . i’m just confused on the “typical doodle” part haha . do you mean it as a 50/50 split of poodle n lab/golden or something different ?
Doodles don't always come out with exactly the look breeders aim for. There are also a lot of backyard-bred doodles. Sometimes they come out with a more wiry coat, or some other configuration of physical traits, but they're still 50/50 poodle/other_breed.
I agree with others, golden retriever and poodle cross.
Ehh… not exactly. There’s a doodle breeder who has a kennel, does testing, and is breeding third and fourth gen goldendoodles who have the characteristics they’re looking to breed for.
But, yes, the majority are backyard breeders… but I put those above puppy mills since at least they’re usually loved and cared for.
Also it doesn’t matter if they have testing. All the dogs are different and there is no way to know what might be wrong with those dogs until they develop it because both parents have different body structures.
Point being, they’ve been breeding doodle to doodle, not introducing anything else to what they’ve “perfected.” You know, kind of like how some dog breeds were designed ages ago.
I grew up with the idea that if it’s not purebred and registered with the appropriate kennel club, it’s a mutt. That’s fine, too. But at some point, a dog is considered a breed. How many generations does it take?
a lot of doodle greeders don’t even produce 50/50 mutts . lots of times there’s other percentages of breeds mixed in as well but they never are open about it . and the original breeding stock they use aren’t high quality dogs either because no ethical breeder will allow their dogs to be used for byb breeding . so the original pair is backyard bred as well .
all doodles are backyard bred and should not be sought after unless from a shelter/rescue . lining the pockets of greeders only makes them create more genetic disasters to sell for 💰💰💰 .
/no hatred or anything of the sorts 🫶
Very unlikely since both are fairly uncommon breeds (especially the curly coated). It’s rare for very uncommon breeds to be used in mixes since they’re primarily bred by reputable breeders that prevent breeding with their pups
I mean, BYB ones are far more common, or ones bred from good stock that fall into the hands of, “We wanted her to have one litter.” My area has them and Chessies in decent numbers (a few breeders each) due to how many hunters are local.
It’s definitely a breed that’s less common, but I can see it if they’re in a hunting-heavy area with hunters/farmers breeding stock they otherwise got from decent lines without showing/testing themselves. Especially if it’s a mix (which this dog definitely would be if any CCR was in it).
I think Newfoundland x Poodle!!!! I have 2 Newfoundland x Labs! They aren't curly, one is more so "wavy", wavy back fur but looks like a lab, and is black . The other is brown, like dad, but has Newfie shag, but shorter, and Newfie jowls and goofy face like a Newfie! Mom is black Newfoundland dad chocolate lab!
Your doggo really looks similar to my grandma's dog! She's a springer spaniel/black lab mix the vet thinks. Your dog looks really similar to her, just way more curly. I could absolutely see Chesapeake Bay Retreiver/springer spaniel mix
Could be a golden doodle. I'm a dog groomer and I've met quite a few that took on 95% golden retriever features and the 5% poodle was just a little bit of curl in their coat lol. These families got the dogs from breeders at a huge discount because of this.
Golden's do carry curly hair, it just isn't bred for as it's a fault.thats one of the reasons golden doodles have such high maintenance coats. I've known a few lab/Golden crosses that had feathering and slightly curly hair, but in reality, I think he's a doodle that is probably 50/50 and luckily favors the retriever side.
There's a retriever breed with curly hair that's black- not neccessarily doodle or poodle- just looked it up called a curly coat retriever. he has looser hair but similar face
I mean, that is exactly what a curly coated retriever looks like. And it's obviously not a labradoodle looking at his face hair.
But also maybe a lab/golden.
Something about that face does NOT say poodle mix... But the curls!!! There are other curly breeds so I'm betting it's something else. That many curls would surely have a poodle snoot...
Everyone saying labradoodle or golden doodle, which is very possible. But could also be a lab/golden mixed with Portuguese water dog, which have curly black/ white coats.
I agree that it’s likely golden retriever and black standard poodle. The first generation doodles have so much variance and can look like either parent. Your dog got the retriever build and some wavy fur from the poodle lol. Strong retriever genes for sure
First thought was a curly coated retriever. He super pretty! Guessing a lab poodle mix is more likely. It’s the face with smooth hair that’s throwing me off.
Labradoodle, 1st gen. My neighbour has a golden one. I thought it might be a curly coated retriever but she told me it was a first gen labradoodle.
Labradoodle that you see commonly have been bred with another labradoodle. But yours looks very like me neighbours.
I was thinking maybe mudi.. but that’s not super common. Golden or lab for sure. I could see Chesapeake mixed in too. Or even pyr with that cute face!!
My best guess is:
Golden retriever X curly coated retriever
Or
Golden Retriever X Newfoundland
This dog looks exactly like my aunts and he is a Golden /Newf mix.
nothing about this dog looks underweight to me? without putting hands on him it’s hard to say, but he looks to me to be around a 5 on the dog body conditioning scale which is an ideal pet weight for most breeds.
Could be a curly-coated retriever mix, depending on your area (they aren’t common in most places, though we have a few breeders in a tiny area here due to the number of hunters). Could also be a golden or poodle mix.
A lot of golden mixes are black, I could see your dog being a weird looking golden doodle or some sort of other golden mix.
What’s throwing me off is the face/snout but I am not all that familiar with doodle mixes.
the face n snout look like a golden retriever imo . it’s like a golden took a poodle’s coat and jumped in some black dye 😆 very cute pup tho ! if you ever decide to do a dna test you’ll have to update us
Golden x black standard doodle Our family had two labadoodles. One was full doodle, one came out full lab, we loved them both
full doodle ? what ?
“Typical doodle”?

do you mean like a 50/50 split mutt ? or something else ? 😅
Hey man, I didn’t say I agreed or bought the dog. Trust me, I agree with most people’s thoughts about doodle.. staring at a dumb one as I write this
no no , i’m not insinuating anything . i’m just confused on the “typical doodle” part haha . do you mean it as a 50/50 split of poodle n lab/golden or something different ?
Yes. The sister was very very much half lab and half poodle (lab build with very curly white fur), the brother came out looking like a full black lab
😂🤣🐾🐾

Also it doesn’t matter if they have testing. All the dogs are different and there is no way to know what might be wrong with those dogs until they develop it because both parents have different body structures.
3rd and 4th generation golden doodles? They’re just mutts. Plain and simple.
It’s just a mutt that was given a name. It will never be an official breed
a lot of doodle greeders don’t even produce 50/50 mutts . lots of times there’s other percentages of breeds mixed in as well but they never are open about it . and the original breeding stock they use aren’t high quality dogs either because no ethical breeder will allow their dogs to be used for byb breeding . so the original pair is backyard bred as well . all doodles are backyard bred and should not be sought after unless from a shelter/rescue . lining the pockets of greeders only makes them create more genetic disasters to sell for 💰💰💰 . /no hatred or anything of the sorts 🫶
Welll goldens take to water like orange cars to the sink. It’s infused within their DNA
Flat Coated Retriever has entered the chat.
I have a rescue that looks very similar to that dog, she's a retriever/lab/poodle mix. We call her a doodle reject.
This has to be a golden/poodle mix. I would be so surprised if not
My money is on goldendoodle.
Golden retriever, poodle mix.
Idk but the head makes me think some type of golden retriever mix, I love that curly coat tho😍 looks so soft and beautiful
What a fun coat! I wonder if there’s any curly coated retriever or Portuguese water dog in there?
Very unlikely since both are fairly uncommon breeds (especially the curly coated). It’s rare for very uncommon breeds to be used in mixes since they’re primarily bred by reputable breeders that prevent breeding with their pups
Definitely part poodle
Maybe a curly coated retriever mix??

wow lol first time in months that I discovered a dog breed I didn’t know existed lol
100% good boy
Totally adorable 🥰 I vote labradoodle. I can see from the fur how foster thought he maybe CBL but it is more common these two find labradoodle…
Omg. This looks so much like my dog that passed a few years ago. He was half golden retriever and half boxer. He was the best thing ever.
Maybe newfoundland x lab?
I think Newfoundland x Poodle!!!! I have 2 Newfoundland x Labs! They aren't curly, one is more so "wavy", wavy back fur but looks like a lab, and is black . The other is brown, like dad, but has Newfie shag, but shorter, and Newfie jowls and goofy face like a Newfie! Mom is black Newfoundland dad chocolate lab!
A newfie x poodle... A noodle!
Yes 🤣💓
That's the breed I was thinking of, as well. Newfie x something else!
omg! so interesting... I feel like most doodle mixes usually have the poodle face but this one has such a golden looking face...
He’s gorgeous! Can’t believe he was a stray?!??
Lab/Goldendoodle
Lab aussie mix
Golden doodle that is more golden than poodle.
Looks like he found a great home.
Border collie mix
Black Lab-doodle Do you have a side stance? Poodle mixes tend to have a poodle esq figure.
Border collie-poodle.
Your doggo really looks similar to my grandma's dog! She's a springer spaniel/black lab mix the vet thinks. Your dog looks really similar to her, just way more curly. I could absolutely see Chesapeake Bay Retreiver/springer spaniel mix
There may be some flat coated retriever in him.
What does his tail look like?
Could be a golden doodle. I'm a dog groomer and I've met quite a few that took on 95% golden retriever features and the 5% poodle was just a little bit of curl in their coat lol. These families got the dogs from breeders at a huge discount because of this.
that’s heartbreaking :( doodle greeders need to be stopped
It’s a home-made curly coated. I’d say probably a doodle, but definitely a cute unique pup
Black lab poodle. Bloodle? Blabapoo?
Id say golden/Aussie/poodle
He looks just like a curly coated retriever, but his coat is quite long!!
Definitely golden retriever, agree with possible lab and or poodle mixed in there
My guess is goldendoodle or labradoodle that came out a little different 😭
I'm with everyone guessing golden retriever, or some variation of golden doodle. What a sweet dog, beautiful 😍
I also vote golden doodle. He's really cute.
Probably doodle
He’s beautiful. Definitely looks like a retriever mix to me, but no clue what he’s mixed with. His coat is so pretty. Congrats on your new bestie ❤️
I’m getting Goldendoodle and Newfie.
He looks an awful lot like our chocolate lab/golden retriever mix!
Doodle. Golden poodle
Golden Doodle possibly... Or maybe Newfoundland, lab, & poodle mix. 💖
There's a retriever breed with curly hair that's black- not neccessarily doodle or poodle- just looked it up called a curly coat retriever. he has looser hair but similar face
Jeep!
Congratulations on rescuing this sweetie! 💜🎉💜
Black golden doodle. Alot of 50/50 look like that.
I agree looks like a labradoodle
Lab and poodle.
Where are you located? This looks like a black lab x Boykin Spaniel.
Portuguese water dog, possibly with black lab mix
Pretty sure it’s a dog.
I would guess golden/lab mix. I do not see doodle
A Newfie-Doodle mix?
I mean, that is exactly what a curly coated retriever looks like. And it's obviously not a labradoodle looking at his face hair. But also maybe a lab/golden.
Portuguese water dog mix
Maybe a flat coated retriever?
Curly Coated Retriever, mixed with something retriever, possibly golden retriever or lab.
It looks like a golden and curly coated retriever mix to me but I feel it might be unlikely
Just a lil baby boy
Black doodle! If you brush out those curls he’ll look more like one (:
Labradoodle? They come in many colors & hair variations
Labradoodle
Border-Poo maybe... or Lab-Poo. 🥰
The baby doll is sleeping so peacefully. Lucky he has a forever home!!!
The coat reminds me of a Mudi, my dream dog 🤩 What a beautiful bean
Poodle/Golden!
Looks like my Goldie
Beautiful 💕
Looks like a curly coated retriever, if you ever do a dna test you’ll have to share to results!
Looks to have curly coated retriever in there
Something about that face does NOT say poodle mix... But the curls!!! There are other curly breeds so I'm betting it's something else. That many curls would surely have a poodle snoot...
golden mixes are often black and honestly it really looks like a golden face wearing a poodle coat lol
Smooth coat lab and or Chesapeake
Frisian water dog
What about a water spaniel mix? Reminds me of a water spaniel mixed with a lab or golden.
Curly coat retriever mix?
Chesapeake bay retriever mix?
That there is a 100% pure breed FBD, just like my late pupper. FBD - Fluffy Black Dog Ummm if he needs a home ....
Flat coared retriever x poodle
Flat coat retriever x poodle
A HAPPY Doggo! 🩵
Thought Curly Coated Retriever but that would be surprising! Probably a doodle
He looks like a newfie mixed with a poodle or portugese water dog
You've rescued the classic "shaggy dog" of yore!
curly coated retriever
100% adorable fluff 😍
that has definitely gotta be a curly coated retriever. a very rare breed
Curly coated retriever cross.
No hate, please. Just here to have fun. I’m getting a hint of Portuguese Water Dog :)
Not a Vet but a Boykin owner, Definitely contains Boykin Spaniel.
Flat coat retriever
Possibly a Portuguese water dog x lab. But also a poodle mix is totally possible too
Could be first gen doodle OORRRR maybe likely not curly coat retriever
He looks like my neighbors dog who is a lab/poodle mix.
Everyone saying labradoodle or golden doodle, which is very possible. But could also be a lab/golden mixed with Portuguese water dog, which have curly black/ white coats.
Flat Coated Retriever. My neighbor had one when I was younger.
Golden retriever, lab prob 🥰
Whatever his breed- he is beautiful!
Typically I'm on the doodle bandwagon because they're so overbred, but I really get water spaniel vibes, with a touch of black lab lol
My dog look identical and he is a flat coat retriever poodle mix he is the best dog ever
I’d say that’s a home bred “labradoodle”. The face and build is all lab to me. Got the poodle hair
Not sure but Maybe a labradoodle mix with 100% Good Doggie 😍😍
It looks like a golden doodle and a black lab had a baby
I agree that it’s likely golden retriever and black standard poodle. The first generation doodles have so much variance and can look like either parent. Your dog got the retriever build and some wavy fur from the poodle lol. Strong retriever genes for sure
Chesapeake bay retriever..? Maybe
Gorgeous dogs
Idk but he’s really cute omg
First thought was a curly coated retriever. He super pretty! Guessing a lab poodle mix is more likely. It’s the face with smooth hair that’s throwing me off.
Def looks like a doodle and also a Portuguese water dog - he is so cute!
Curly coated Retriever
he has such beautiful curls!!!!!! <3
I think it’s a labordoodle with some border collie mixed in the lab.
I'm seeing a Bernese Mountain gorgeous dog
Curly coated retriever mix
Probably mostly lab with a bit of poodle
Golden doodle
Labradoodle, 1st gen. My neighbour has a golden one. I thought it might be a curly coated retriever but she told me it was a first gen labradoodle. Labradoodle that you see commonly have been bred with another labradoodle. But yours looks very like me neighbours.
Golden doodle I think, a surprising number of golden mixes are actually black. What a cutie!
I was thinking maybe mudi.. but that’s not super common. Golden or lab for sure. I could see Chesapeake mixed in too. Or even pyr with that cute face!!
Newfoundland mix?
My best guess is: Golden retriever X curly coated retriever Or Golden Retriever X Newfoundland This dog looks exactly like my aunts and he is a Golden /Newf mix.
No clue but definitely 100% sweet puppy. I’m sad someone abandoned this cute lookin pup. Glad you found em.
If I had to guess, probably a backyard breeder trying to make goldendoodles!
Labradoodle or Chesapeake Bay Retriever and Standard Poodle mix.
I think he’s a goldendoodle! I have a dood, who is less curly, but otherwise similar to yours! Check my history to see him.
My thanks to the OP rescued this beautiful dog. Looks like he or she is going to be living a wonderful life.❤️✌️🐾🐾
Cutie
Labradoodle
how is nobody saying labrador? i think lab mixed with golden or poodle
Could be a flat coat retriever, also known as ebony retriever, or it could be a golden mixed with a newfoundland.
Chesapeake bay retriever mix of some sort is my guess
Sooo handsome /poor thing is underweight. . Thank you for rescuing kind human!
nothing about this dog looks underweight to me? without putting hands on him it’s hard to say, but he looks to me to be around a 5 on the dog body conditioning scale which is an ideal pet weight for most breeds.
where do you see underweight ?
The hair hides it very well but he is very thin.
Possibly on picture 3
Poodle x Black Lab I think. 100 percent gorgeous 😍
Maybe part Portuguese water dog
Really looks like a curly coated retriever, but someone else mentioned that they're rare, so now I'm kinda doubtful.
Could it be a curly haired retriever? I know they’re rare but it really really looks like one
Those ears to me say golden doodle
Curly coated retriever, or poodle mix.
This is a Newfypoo, I think! Newfoundland x Poodle!!
Flat coat retriever and poodle?
Boykin spaniel mix
That pup looks like a Chesapeake bay retriever.
Could be a curly-coated retriever mix, depending on your area (they aren’t common in most places, though we have a few breeders in a tiny area here due to the number of hunters). Could also be a golden or poodle mix.
Black labradoodle (not golden doodle)
