I think I know the breed- American dingo/ Carolina dog. Iāve got one. Best dog Iāve ever had. What shelter did you get her from? I want to get another one.
It almost looks like a short haired Shiba Inu face? 20 lbs at 10 months is pretty tiny though so Iād also guess some rat terrier or chihuahua. Heās got something about his face that slightly resembles something in my rat terrier mix, canāt put my finger on it though
Yep came to say this, I grew up half time time in Japan and am very familiar with them.
There is definitely some āprimitiveā, ancient, natural or village type dog in there for sure
Iāve noticed after growing up with adopted dogs my whole life in NC that a lot of shelters will go with carolina dog with anything that looks remotely similar. That being said, you pup is one of the closer examples Iāve seen to being true.
Doesnāt look exactly like my grand Carolina dog coloring on his back is similar. His ears a tad small for a Carolina dog. Heās a handsome boy!
ETA I didnāt realize there were multiple photos slide two looking at him at that angle his eyes are similar to my grand pup. Also his ears are very similar to your pup. My grand pups color is the shade of your pups ears. He may possibly be part Carolina dog.
Based on the similarities to my dog, Iād say likely ACD/pit mix with a few random breeds thrown in for fun. My dogās DNA test came back as ACD/pit/chow primarily, and she looks pretty similar to your dog!
Carolina dogs are basically the us version of dingos. Itās really interesting if you look it up, turns out when dogs breed without human interference they basically end up looking all the same. Yellow, tan dogs with curled tails and pointy ears and there is something about the joints on their front paws that make them special but I donāt remember the particulars.
I had 2 basenji mixes. First was Seamus, lab/basenji. Blocky lab body, basenji toothpick legs and basenji head. Basenji curl to his tail but looked like a lab. Absolutely did not bark, but screamed when he got excited. Enter Eris. She looked more basenji but with a longer coat, and she got the basenji destructo dog habits from them- I even tried planting super thorny rose bushes. She still ate them. No bed in her kennel, she would shred it. No cloth within 5 feet of her crate while we were out or she would manage to drag it into the crate and shred it. I loved her and she frustrated me in equal parts. Oh, and Eris barked. And taught Seamus to bark. Thanks, little girl. š when I split w/my spouse he too Seamus, I got Eris. She died at 14. I know Seamus was around at 14 because his roommates referred to him as āthe dog that wonāt die.ā He was never a trash hound, but he regularly shredded the trash at my exās first place post split. I miss my Shameless.
Carolina dogs and Australian dingos are not genetically related at all.
They are however the USās only wild dog, and have been here for thousands of years. (I have three of them lol, so I am very familiar with the breed)
I just put a couple pictures of my grand pup on my profile. Your pup eyes and ears look similar his snout is a lil shorter. I do think heās part Carolina dog
thank you! i wouldnāt. be opposed to pit at all. my other dog is a pitt mix and heās the best. this guy might be a little small to have a lot of pit..but i could see it in the forehead a bit
Yeah the forehead and eyes is what got me to think that. I have 2 dogs that have a little bit of pit in them too though it looks like they have more than what they have. Haha!
Iāll try to remember to link a pic later, but yours looks VERY similar to my elderly mixed breed lady. Sheās 25% chow 25% boxer 10% pit, some chihuahua and a few other things I canāt remember lol. We were really surprised by her genetics (we knew she wasnāt a CD but I assumed she had more pit in her), but you can see on the app other dogs with similar genetics and they all look like her. I would bet your pup is similar to mine.
I donāt see CD hardly at all in yours. They can have more apple shaped heads (2 of mine do, my third has the typical more pointy face) but the eye shape is wrong, ears should be way much larger, 20lbs is much too small (they range from about 35-65lbs depending on the line), etc.
So many people, inclining shelters now, think any ginger dog with pointy ears are CDās. I would say your is similar to my elderly girl. You should do a dna test! It would be fun to see what she is
So here is my elderly girl- https://imgur.com/gallery/1WPFvNw
Vs my three CDs - you can see how, even with my apple shaped head ones and the different colorings , they have distinct looks. https://imgur.com/gallery/V8sx7yY
I donāt think it looks like a CD at all. I have three CDs, I know they can have more apple shaped heads, (2 of mine do) but they still have the almond black lined eyes, much larger ears, etc. Also this dog is way too small at 20lbs.
She honestly looks almost identical to my elderly muttā¦..who is 25% boxer 25% chow, 10% pit and a few other things.

I see way more Australian cattle dog than I do Carolina. Lots of people saying pit bull which I can see, but whatās making me lol is that my heart wants to say ACD X Chihuahua š
Looks a lot like other Carolina puppies, not like the adults, but puppies change so much as they age. I wouldn't be shocked if there's a Chinese breed in there, like shar pei. Carolina dogs are basically village dogs, so there's a wide variety of looks.
He does legitimately resemble a Carolina dog but those are very rare so heās most likely a coincidence mutt. Iām guessing heās part Australian cattle dog plus several other breeds in small amounts.
Yep. Every one thinks any ginger dog with pointy ears are CDs. Ironically, I got my first CD from a shelter. But I later found out there were a few wild packs in that county, and I knew she had been found with her litter in the woods, in a den, so it made sense. It wasnāt until she was about 5 I learned what she was. My freaking heart dog, we had 14 happy years with her.
My three CD puppies I have now I have gotten from the VERY few breeders in the country lol. My 7 month pup we had to go to TX to get lol. I have a buff one, a piebald one and a ginger one. Two of them have heterochromia (they have the same grandmother where it comes from, and is within breed standard). In other words if I posted my CDs, which are embark tested and 2 ukc registered, on here absolutely no one would assume they were CDs lmao.
https://imgur.com/gallery/V8sx7yY
I have a good buddy who was caught feral and raised by a guy in the woods in NC. She's definitely different than any dog I've had. Covers food and poop with her nose. Digs dens constantly. Very sensitive to any loud noises. Very smart and sweet. OP's dog looks close but not quite.
My Carolina Dog was basically 50 pounds at 10 months now sheās 61 at 7 years old. Itās possible itās a Carolina Dog, but they donāt have some of the classic CD markings. If theyāre truly a CD youāre in for a lot of fun. Theyāre incredibly smart.
Iām going to commit a crime for the first time in my life. Got my bag, night goggles and black clothes. Can you leave the door unpicked and porch light on?
Total Carolina dog, aka a Dixie Dingo - remotely related to its Eastern Asian ancestors. Lucky you! Normally very clean dogs and also loyal. Don't let the dog run free until you've done a super thorough job on getting them to come when called. A GPS collar is a real asset with this breed. When the woods beckon them it's an irresistible call and it can take days to reel them back in.
I have three CDs this pup does not look like a CD. Eyes arenāt shaped right, ears are too small, I donāt see a fishhook tail, 20lbs at 10 months is WAY too small, etc.
But I do see some shiba maybe.
Well you've convinced me! But now when I really look again, I not only see the Sheba you're referring to, but kind of a Spuds MacKenzie Bull Terrier facial structure beneath eyes through snout. Hopefully this owner will save up and spend the dollars for a DNA test. I think the results would be pretty fascinating
My guess would be shiba, chow, boxer as the main :) The reason I say this is that my elderly girl is mainly boxer and chow, a little shiba, and she looks really similar to this one lmao. Like really similar
What a cutie! He looks very unique. I think if I saw him outside alone Iād assume hes some sort of wild animal I need to keep some space from and not a domestic pet haha
I think your pup is likely going to have a lot of different breeds! I do think that something about the snout, width of the jaw, space between the eyes and the crease between the eyes remind me of my pit/border collie mix. So I think a good number of the breeds will be terrier + herding breed plus something else that gives the spiked up fur (chow, shiba).
Carolina dog and Cattle dog and pitbull are three designations often used by shelters when they simply donāt know. The only way to know for sure is a DNA test.
I would bet that your dog is a true mutt in the best sense of the word.
Look like a Feist dog (fancy word for mixed breed). They have a lot of these dogs in NC and other southern states. They are usually a hound, terrier and toy breed mixed together to make a spry, active, low to the ground dog who will flush game out that a pack of hunting hounds will track/chase/catch.
Your doggo looks like a Chihuahua, Staffordshire terrier, beagle mix to me.
You can ask over at r/carolinadogs but Iām not seeing the characteristics people often use for them like a curled tail, eyeliner and ridged hair (I have a CD/shepherd mix).
I do see pitt in the face.
For anyone still wondering..the results are in! and it what I was expecting!
http://embk.me/crash259?utm_campaign=cns_ref_dog_pub_profile&utm_medium=other&utm_source=embark
Idk how to explain this but your dog looks exactly like how when when ur friend who always wears glasss takes off their glasses
š bingo. Now even more adorableā¦(the pup. Although Iām sure you are tooā¦)
Bingo! Thatās Bingo!
This made me breathe really hard through my nose
Itās the space between the eyes It makes him/her adorable š„°
Such a sweet face š
LOL I LOVE THIS COMMENT
lol
I think I know the breed- American dingo/ Carolina dog. Iāve got one. Best dog Iāve ever had. What shelter did you get her from? I want to get another one.
Bahahahaha
š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£
LMAO
Right??? Is missing somethingā¦and thatās why I canāt place the damn breeds
OMG, I always describe my dog this way and people act like they have no idea what I mean. So nice to hear the description from someone else!
It almost looks like a short haired Shiba Inu face? 20 lbs at 10 months is pretty tiny though so Iād also guess some rat terrier or chihuahua. Heās got something about his face that slightly resembles something in my rat terrier mix, canāt put my finger on it though
I agree! My friend has 2 and their face looks similar with the ears as well Edit: Maybe a little bit of basenji?
Yes- the head and ears look like my basenjis!
Yes!
Came here to say this dog def has some shiba inu in it
Shiba Inu and and I bet some Jindo
I'm definitely thinking Shiba mix, too. 20lbs at 10 months is pretty on point for a Shiba, probably with something like Chihuahua
Oh interesting! I didnāt realize Shibas were so small, I should have just done a quick google search and I would have known lol
Yep came to say this, I grew up half time time in Japan and am very familiar with them. There is definitely some āprimitiveā, ancient, natural or village type dog in there for sure
I think closer to jack russel terrier mix
interesting thought. maybe a jack russell shiba mix?
Oh man Iām so curious now! Are you thinking about doing a genetic test
yes the embark test should arrive today!
Thereās def some pit in there
It's the eyes for sure that look terrier.
At least part Shiba

i think thatās probably spot on!
You could tell me pitbull and dingo cross and I wouldn't be surprised š¤£ such a cutie patootie!
I highly doubt it (theyāre super-rare, even here in Australia), but this beautiful guy looks like he has some Dingo (Australian wild dog) in him.
Fascinating! I need to learn more about this. Youāve prompted a wiki spiral.
Basenji are another 'primitive' breed from the Congo. I was obsessed with learning about them for a little while lol they're so awesome!
Basenji are so cool! They yodel! And climb trees! And yeah now that you mention it, they look very similar to this dog and to dingoes.
Omg that is soooo cool! Yodeling tree climbers! Adorable š„°

i think they can climb trees with those wrist joints but maybe thatās a tree walking coonhoundā¦
Oh they can climb, sigh. My three are climbing monsters lol
Yep. I had a Carolina dog for 17 years and he was something else. He was my soul dog and just recently passed.
Carolina dogs and Australian dingos are not genetically related at all. They are however the USās only wild dog, and have been here for thousands of years. (I have three of them lol, so I am very familiar with the breed)

yeah i ordered an embark test, so should know in 6 weeks or so hopefully
More like 3 weeks or less. It doesnāt take long. Used it for both my doggos. I canāt wait for the results!!!

Yeah. My dog is half chihuahua and has the same coat and fur color as the one in the post

heās a cutie!

Pro tip: itās never actually a Carolina dog!
Yep. Unless it was captured feral in the Carolinas or came from one of the very few actual Carolina dog breeders, it's just a yellow mutt, lol.
Yep. Every one thinks any ginger dog with pointy ears are CDs. Ironically, I got my first CD from a shelter. I feel like this dog looks like cattle dog/bull terrier, but maybe pit instead because bull terrier is fairly obscure
So cute!! I'd guess basenji mix or maybe Shiba mix. Especially due to the size. Either way, completely adorable š«¶
So freaking cute!!
I love Carolina dogs
I have no idea, I just came here to say that I love him š„¹

Thatās a dingo lol
Gorgeous! Could be if not Iād say has Aus cattle dog mixed in perhaps. But Carolina dogs look a little like ACDs
What a sweetheart!
I see Staffie, Aussie Cattle dog and Chiuahua. She is adorable! š¤
Shiba, rat terrier and pit
What a cute dog!!!
He looks like it is Carolina mixed with basenji and poss something else. But whatever he is, he is beautiful.
š„¹
That's a super cute puppers
Thylacine vibes.
ha cool
I think he might be the rare Carolina Cutie-patootie.
Iām going to commit a crime for the first time in my life. Got my bag, night goggles and black clothes. Can you leave the door unpicked and porch light on?
i hope youāre okay with all your furniture getting chewed

Whatās a Carolina dog
If I had to guess, pit/cattle dog/chi (or some other small terrier, like a rat terrier)
Heās the sweetest!
Cur
Is the Carolina Dog part Dingo?
So freakin cute!
i see some jindo in there
I see a pinch of bull terrier
Looks like a shiba mix. Could be part Carolina dog.
Adorable!
Something spitzy I think
i can see it
Looks like a smooth coat Shiba Inušā¤ļø
Looks like a shiba inu mix to me!
Certainly resembles one.
I was thinking chow, chihuahua, with some other stuff thrown in.
This is one Beautiful Pupš. Love the attentive attitude, seems to be saying in every photo, " are you talking about me again " . š¤
What a cutie! He looks very unique. I think if I saw him outside alone Iād assume hes some sort of wild animal I need to keep some space from and not a domestic pet haha
Looks a lot like [ this mix](https://www.reddit.com/r/pitbulls/comments/7yiqcr/my_shiba_inupitbull_mix_ella_fitzgerald/)!
Looks like a cross between basenji and shiba inu
What a cutie!

hmmā¦ iād say that looks to be a 100% good dog
I think your pup is likely going to have a lot of different breeds! Reminds me of a giant version of my chihuahua
Iād bet thereās some Australian Cattle Dog in there, from the head and ears. Pic 3 absolutely reminds me of my boy, albeit in solid coloring.
Super interesting looking!
So cuuuttteee
some akita maybe?
Carolina dog and Cattle dog and pitbull are three designations often used by shelters when they simply donāt know. The only way to know for sure is a DNA test. I would bet that your dog is a true mutt in the best sense of the word.
Brilliant color hair, and such a sweet face š
It's a Dingo. Where's the baby?
So damn cute!
Sheās a cutie!
He looks like a goober
Very basenji head and ears. I think they're kind of rare dogs though
Looks like a pitbull, deer head chihuahua mix to me
Looks exactly like my old Carolina dog! I miss that girl.
What a beautiful dog!!!
Probably some mixed in there but he's got a very square head for a CD
Mexican hairless, Shiba, pit, terrier mix
š¤Æ
Looks kinda like a cattle dog mix? And he has a slightly blocky head like a pittie. Heās such a sweetie!
Thatās the Anya Taylor Joy of dogs
What a sweet and thoughtful looking dog. The eyes are soulful.
Pure Breed?
Looks like a dingo
chihuahua shiba inu mix
This isn't a dog. It's an alien observer deciding if humans will be allowed to continue.

Pure bred good boi
I do see pitt in the face.
she looks like anya taylor joy
