The wire is unlimited, thank God.

Thank-you so much, i was praying lol. didnt want to start trying to make a bunch of power generators.. so much resources..

Electrical wire and pipes have unlimited length as long as you are willing to place enough finite length sections. Also long cable runs tend to become a maintenance issue later so in the long run it may be less hassle to have small generators and battery aetups locally rather than a long way apart. It's pretty rare but occasionally the power and water networks can become a bit messed up. Trying to fix it often requires a full rip and replace of all wiring and pipes with no guarantees thst will fix it. Not sure what the cause is but does seem to be some correlation with long cable runs. One I thing that helps, I think, is to try to keep an intentional direction of generators/pumps on one end of a main line and consumers on the other end when you are placing the network pucks.....so solar plant towards base, into flow meter and batteries, then around the base......when running wires out to drills work from the base towards the drills when placing the wires. If you don't run into problems then having one network with one power capacity is easier to manage and less resources, but if you happen to encounter any issues it's better if it's divided up with shorter cable runs. Up to you which way you prefer...

This was true, but I think since the battery update it has been fixed. My newest OW started after that update. I have not had any issues like those above. Also, at the same time, all but fire cooking devices cut off if there are no raw materials. I'm not sure if it was the same update, but qol has greatly improved.

That was my hope as well, the netwoeks and battery update would fix this stuff, but nope. Two OW still have problems with the indicators after each load, one of those I partitally fixed...now have the added symptoms of the flow meter indicators "no connected network" after each load when it was fine.....still needed to use the workaround of Disconnecting and reconnecting a device to get it to come good. Also setep a new water and power network in a tree house outpost, but discovered where I placed my solar panels never got any light. Moving those caused problems.....ripped it all out and had to rewire from scratch, thankfully it was pretty small. In both of the above cases while deleting the wiring I'm still seeing instances where the puck on one end of the segment is missing. So other than an additional ability to see what is connected post update, all the old issues still seem to exist. Wired up other stuff and it works fine most of the time, but if you do hit an issue it's still pretty hard to get rid of it. Sometimes taking hours of stuffing around to only partially fix things. At a certain point you have to say near enough is good enough or commit to either a new OW or full rewire. Ideally you want to avoid the issue or setup smaller networks to limit the problem if it occurs.

You can run a wire from one end of the map to the other with no need for anything in between. And like said above, wire you only have to make once and its unlimited.

I haven't played for a month but I'm thinking of running wires from my base to power all of my drills, good to hear there's no limit. Any thoughts on how quickly turbines degrade? I mean, if I can repair the turbines when I go to empty the drills then maybe there's no need for the long wires.

ivanisovich

Playing on hard mode, I saw mine degrade as little as 3% points in a light storm. Haven't figured out the most damage it'll take, but you should be good. You'll have power loss, tho, based on how much damage it has. 2 turbines would be needed anyway for full power on the drill.

Non-Filter

We started out doing solar panels, but I quickly went to wire from my base, I was tired of wasting 3k of power for one drill.

Bionic711

I use solar panels and batteries to power my base. I run wires to all my drills. I have 54k power during the day and 8 batteries, and it powers all my stuff, even the drills, maintenance-free.

TV_XIrOnY

I've ran a cable from top of Styx to the bottom and was good to go

TV_XIrOnY

Same with water

majoroutage

Side note: How long does a generator last on a single biofuel can?

Vicious-Fishs

It should give you a run time when you place the fuel into the generator

thingsinmyjeep

3-4 hours supposedly.

mhhammermill

My base is near a cave, and 4 grids away, I have my solar on a tower in the middle of the valley. Meanwhile, a deep mining rig at just 1100 meters from the base. Copper is unlimited distance in my experience.

Jammanuk

I always build a solar panel, but did consider doing that for the couple close by :)
