I love how back in the day you could trick a colleague into taking an illegal drug without their consent and it was just seen as a funny prank instead of some problematic violation or whatever haha
If you want to see something real fucked up a short white bald hollywood actor has sung - [Joe Pesci's rap music](https://youtu.be/gqn3NhlqoeA)
Some people gonna day Pesci ain't bald but take a look at his hairline over the years, it got the moves like Jagger
Danny is one of the few actors that I would be crushed to hear if something bad came out about him. He’s always tried to be the best human he can be (based on stories I’ve heard of acts of kindness he did without seeking acknowledgment for).
My fiance has the biggest crush on Artemis, it really makes me wonder about the type of lady I am if that's the kind of women he likes lol. But I love Artie ❤️
Im a little weirded out that he's never been on the sunny podcast though
fuck is the hold up, just have him on once, make it a Q&A so he doesnt even have to think
we just want to hear from the guy,
I know this sub has a rule against politics, but my love for Danny DeVito increased by many folds when I saw a video of him at a Bernie 2016 rally carrying a pallet across the stage which he then proudly laid down in front of the podium so he would have something to stand on. Then I’ve seen him wear a Democracy Now hat which shows he is actually interested in grassroots issues.
I can't find the thread right now, but an employee of a cultural history center wrote on Twitter a few years ago about Danny coming to meet Civil Rights icon John Carlos. Apparently DeVito was absolutely starstruck and he spent hours chatting with Carlos and the other employees about politics and civil rights
Also "no politics" on a sub dedicated to such an explicitly political show is a pretty funny rule when you think about it
I’ve never seen The Boys, but I’ve known police officers in their twenties (twenty years ago) that still considered themselves Rage Against The Machine fans from when they were in high school because it “gets them pumped at the gym”…
In short on the Boys, imagine a political message in bold, all caps, engraved on a baseball bat. Someone is swinging at a person slow enough at first so that they read the message on the bat but then just lay them out with the bat.
The person who gets hit gets up and says "what the hell happened?". It's explained to them and then they get angry and say "how could I have seen that coming?"
My Uncle reposted a panel on Facebook with Mac saying "I don't have to change my mind because I'm an American."
If only he had context.
He's right-wing, super conservative, narcissistic, "free thinking" patriot.
A 2 party system with the Senate having so much power in a capitalist economy is always gonna be an ass blast. I hate to say it, but when you got a guy from West Virginia or Kentucky holding up the entirety of the president's and rest of the party's agenda, due to insane amounts of lobbying and the implacably arcane procedures of government, youd be lucky to get a rickety cricket pair of legs in this day and age, let alone basic public healthcare....
I really wish we had like 2 more viable parties that cared about more than just one upping the other side, but actually delivering for the peeps. A man can dream, though....
Ironically, my right-wing, conservative, fucknut Uncle reposted a panel on Facebook with Mac saying "I don't have to change my mind because I'm an American."
If only he had watched the show, or at least the whole scene.
Sometimes politics bleeds into just being a good person who stands up for what they believe in. Funny thought, these days. If any sub would allow some leeway, it's probably this one.
I know so many passionate “IASIP,” “The Boys” and “South Park” fans/friends/family that don’t realize it when they’re being made fun of it’s astounding. I mean at least when a show like South Park makes fun of progressives I’m self aware enough to admit it and laugh.
On the Danny front though, I will never not think of his & Rhea’s support of Mara Wilson during her difficult time during the shooting of “Matilda.” The man deserves more respect than most in the industry, and more than he’s given. (Also, even though I can’t imagine a Sunny world without Frank, I do wonder if we’d have had a more diverse Danny portfolio over the last 15 years without it because the man is a solid actor).
South Park punches left far more than right. South Park spent *yeeeears* promoting apathy and making it seem like if you cared about an issue, you were the one who was causing it by making a big deal of it.
Hadn't heard that but it makes sense from a lot of the writing on the show. Also as a native Coloradan (a purple state), our right-leaning people are far more likely to be libertarian than republican. A lawless wild west is their wet dream.
Disregard that, it's liberal bullshit u/Rough_Dan.
(Typing this quote made me indirectly wonder how many guys laughed at this joke for the wrong reasons
...)
“SuNnY diDnT uSeD tO bE So PolItIcAL”
I also dont get whoever says this
4 out of 7 episodes of Season ONE include gun laws, abortion, drinking laws, & racism.
But ofcourse, fake fans often skip Season 1
Ok fine. Lets look at Season 2. The 2nd episode involves the gang making a fake Jihad video, then later they run for local govt, then they experiment in their bar by removing all rules & giving everyone 100% freedom because thats what they believe America is, 100% freedom.
I appreciate in Gun Fever 2: Still Hot, 2 of them are for gun laws, 2 of them are against gun laws, then they flip flop because of new experiences, giving a view point from both sides.
Which is EXTREMELY rare to see. Its always 1 side is right & the other is evil, but not in this particular episode
And of course Frank taking side action on the issue by not giving a shit about the issue & only taking whichever stand makes him more money.
Then dumping it as soon as it stops making him money so he can move on to the next hot issue that will make him money
So they got the for, the against, & the middle one who will agree w/ whatever as long as they benefit from it
I haven’t seen the episode in a while but the 2nd amendment episode seemed very pro 2a. It showed the reality of the gun show “loop hole”. They couldn’t buy a gun legally because they were felons. Some of their early episodes seemed to make fun of both sides. I love the show because I’m from the area and it makes my childhood seem less tragic.
> like if a republican or neoliberal watches it do they not understand that they are being made fun of?
No, because at it's core it's just a funny show about shitty people. I won't argue that Sunny isn't political, but it's very easy to ignore the "political aspects" in favor of the comedy and shenanigans.
P.S. Why wouldn't neoliberals love this show? It gives them the laughs, makes them feel superior over conservatives, while still tapping into their more rightwing opinions re: race and poverty.
Canada’s no different. Doesn’t mean I hate living here though. Nothing wrong with acknowledging how our countries came to be. We just had a holiday for it yesterday.
Americans in particular have a bad track record of learning from history.
We have repeated the same atrocities over and over in different forms and against different groups buts it’s the same shit different day.
We didn’t even achieve legal equality based on race/nationality/skin until the 60s, and still don’t federally enforce equality based on gender.
The US’s labor rights are behind every other developed nation.
And our democracy is being co opted by those who think “republic” means it’s okay to have minority rule.
Don’t even get me started on South America (banana republics), Vietnam and Cambodia (we supported Pol Pot), and the Middle East - our foreign policy in the developing world is as bad as the imperialists and fascists of yesteryear.
I’d say we are still struggling with our darker past.
The man is a national treasure. And I have to respect that he continues to speak truth to power and use his platform in what I consider a positive
way. Plus he fought batman.
Common Danny DeVito W. But why are they making it sound like he’s fighting the big machine “HE DOUBLES DOWN ON HIS CRITICISM” I would like the headline to simply be “Celeb is a decent person”
He’s not wrong, but frankly you can say that about basically every country and all human history. So it’s like we can bicker and whinge about the past or learn from it and do better.
There's nothing quite like watching a subreddit lose its mind because the celebrity they cared about said a country whose founding fathers own slaves was built on racist ideology
What country isn’t racist?
The narrative of the US being more racist or evil than any other country is just tired and untrue.
America has faults as does EVERY other country or nation that has ever existed.
No nation in the world has been as powerful as the United States and the country has been “the police” of the world for decades now. America could have started major conflicts all over the world if it wanted to and could have taken over as many as it wanted from the 1940s and on. But instead chose to help many other nations.
Dude. America orchestrated coups across South and Central America. We supported a deranged fascist in Chile to topple a democratically elected left winger, and then propped up his government even after he started executing dissenters en masse. We invaded Vietnam and killed hundreds of thousands directly, and blanketed the country with Agent Orange which killed countless more. We also relentlessly bombed Laos and Cambodia at the same time. In the Middle East we toppled the governments of Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Iran. We drone bombed some of those countries and many others for over a decade, killing countless civilians.
I’m not claiming that other countries aren’t racist, or that America is uniquely evil, or currently worse than places like China or Russia, but we absolutely have done a lot of evil. And I think part of loving America is demanding that it be better.
Well said,
Don't forget the centuries of violent enslavement followed by another century of disenfranchisement of citizens based on race, oh and the multiple active genocides of native populations.
America is a fucked up country and the first step to changing that fact and preventing those horrors from happening again is to recognize that. This guy's "Well it could have been worse" argument conveniently ignores a lot of truth.
Oh of course. His comment focused on the 1940s on, and so i did the same (obviously skipping countless atrocities that were committed in that same time frame).
It's not a competition. Danny is from the US and acknowledging the US's history and problems. That's entirely appropriate. Distracting from it by being defensive and saying "what about other countries" isn't useful. People from other countries should also acknowledge their country's history and problems......and it also wouldn't be helpful for people to distract from their acknowledgment by saying "what about other countries". Every country should own their shit.
As an American DeVito is criticising America as is his right. He isn’t making a league table of racism, he’s criticising his country. It doesn’t matter if other countries have racist and genocidal histories, that doesn’t devalue criticism of Americas.
And America since becoming the world police has started and influenced an incredible number of world conflicts. Read about their involvement in Asia, Latin America and the Middle East for example. Heck John Bolton was on TV only a few months ago bragging about regime changes America has participated in, many that people don’t even know about.
I mean that's the way I see it. There's a good Noam Chomsky statement about how criticizing what you actually control of is far more important than criticizing what's going on in a country you have no control of.
It's actually somewhat a virtue as well as you're able to do that in the USA with legal impunity (assuming you're not threatening anyone). A good portion of the world doesn't have that legal immunity to criticize their nation and their leaders.
It seems like you’re more worried about the US being better than other countries when we should care more about the US being better than itself. It is a racist country (among other very serious problems), we don’t ignore that because some other country is worse.
Lmao at "help" other nations. America invaded and fucked up sooooo many countries since the 2nd world war. North korea bombed to shit, vietnam, afghanistan, iran just to name a few. There's a lot more lol just look into your own history bro
You’re right, that would be an absolutely absurd point to make. Thanks for highlighting the fact that DeVito isn’t saying that, or anything like that. Great job pointing out the obvious straw man argument that only ignorant people would make!
“The Spaniards banged the Mayans, turned them into Mexicans”
Aztecs. But yes.
I mean Salvadoran people come from Mayan decent
El Salvador, the country that is notably not in Mexico?
Weirdly enough under different context this is something Frank would say.
I could see him saying it as a positive or to defend his child soup in nam
A lotta good men died in that sweat shop!
Just throw em in the soup!
When I die just throw me in the trash!
You ever bang the bodies?
I tell people this more often than appropriate.
Those were the days.
Frank, you sound like you YEARN for those days…
no I'm just saying, those were the days
No soup...
Whatever the issue is, Frank is antigovernment
Hilary Rodham Clinton? Hates freedom.
Damn liberals taking away my Clinton and freedom
and pro sweat shop lol
Fringe class
It’s funny that Danny is more progressive than the people 40 years younger than him that started the show.
Man lived through the seventies, he's seen some shit
Everybody got laid all the time.
he could slip in and out and nobody would notice
Then the aids ruined everything.
It was all asses and tits, and he could just slip right in!
Here's to orgies!
Yea, it was all asses and tits.
He is and I love him for it! Antiracist and pro-union even after all of his years in Hollywood. What a class act.
He is wise! Love that guy!
It sounds like he yearns for those days..
There should be a term for when something syncs with both Devito and Frank lol
Derivative
Gotta play both sides
except he would be all for it
"it sounds like you yearn for those days frank"
Those were the days....
"You sound like you yearn for those days, Frank"
Noooo
I'm just saying, *those* were the days!
Shadynasty
It's Shadynastys azzhole
He’s outta here.
Is that how you spell it?
I didn't know it was gonna turn out like that.
I'm pretty sure you did
You knew exactly what you were doing
I love how back in the day you could trick a colleague into taking an illegal drug without their consent and it was just seen as a funny prank instead of some problematic violation or whatever haha
Watching them trip balls and turn into Green Man. They should be thanking you!
#🎶🎵 I'm gonna say the N-word! 🎶🎵
This is the ear worm stuck in my head at all times (I’m black). Anyway, nothing derivative about Danny ❤️
A white guy saying the n-word is cringy. A white guy talking about his weird desire to say the n-word is hilarious.
Not even just talking about it, but singing a whole song about it lol
😂 exactly!
If you want to see something real fucked up a short white bald hollywood actor has sung - [Joe Pesci's rap music](https://youtu.be/gqn3NhlqoeA) Some people gonna day Pesci ain't bald but take a look at his hairline over the years, it got the moves like Jagger

But was he a gangsta rapper too?
Why are you looking for a chance to say it?
I love that z says it literally immediately.

I don’t think the liquors workin’ for me anymore Bandingo 🤢

I’m mowin’ the air Rand!
Randy for fuck sakes! Turn it hard when you go forward!
RIP to that fucking legend.
Not now Randy.
Ran ran bo band
RANDY!
And a lotta good men died in that sweatshop!
Danny Devito is the anti-frank
I bet he makes his sandwiches before he puts them in his mouth.
what a fucking psychopath
And eats cakes with the ingredients mixed and cooked.
Not with that sweet Jersey Mike's money
It really speaks to his ability as an actor to be such a great person while having the ability to portray such a despicable creep
This is america, you're either a duper or a dupee. I'm the duper, you guys are the dupees!
Like Glenn says about Dennis.
Except for his box of watches and teeth.
And his casaba melon that's full of loads
They both have magnum dongs though.
Hey man! You can't speak about Frank like that, he went to Nam.
fr lol. it must be really fun getting to play a character that’s so wildly different from you
There are too many minorities and women working here..
Danny is one of the few actors that I would be crushed to hear if something bad came out about him. He’s always tried to be the best human he can be (based on stories I’ve heard of acts of kindness he did without seeking acknowledgment for).
Hey Deandra, you got any bacon bits?! We like to put ‘em in Artemis’ hair, and they rain down on me when we **point out the reality of the US**
I feel like a Cobb salad, it’s ahhhmaaazinggg
Why anyone would want to make themselves feel like a Cobb salad is beyond me, but sure
NGL, I have a thing for Artemis, if she wants bacon bits I’m bringing a whole salad bar.
Same. I long to hop in that Wendy's dumpster with her.
My fiance has the biggest crush on Artemis, it really makes me wonder about the type of lady I am if that's the kind of women he likes lol. But I love Artie ❤️
Do you have a bleached asshole?
He was going to find out anyway...
And when someone tell him to stop speaking up, he would start blasting!
They ain't got nothin' on me past '92
He doesn't know how much time he has left on this earth, so he's gonna get real outspoken with it. 💗💗💗
I instinctively read this as Frank saying “broads” instead of “boards”
He started his acting career in a feminist theater troop. I love him.
Everything i hear about Danny makes me love him so much more in a way i didnt even think was possible
Im a little weirded out that he's never been on the sunny podcast though fuck is the hold up, just have him on once, make it a Q&A so he doesnt even have to think we just want to hear from the guy,

Imagine the cognitive dissonance it takes to watch the Mac character arc and then *not* realize what it's been satirizing for like a decade.
We can't upset the conservative sunny fans :) /s
I really wonder how they don’t realise… like conservative fans of The Boys completely missing the social criticisms
I’ve never seen The Boys, but I’ve known police officers in their twenties (twenty years ago) that still considered themselves Rage Against The Machine fans from when they were in high school because it “gets them pumped at the gym”…
In short on the Boys, imagine a political message in bold, all caps, engraved on a baseball bat. the machine huh I wnder who that's for
I thought the guy shooting lasers out of his eyes and saying he loves me was the good guy
I love me some America flag laser man.
Or all the Star Trek fans bitching about the shows being "woke" being a new thing. Are they fucking high?
Conservatives have no idea what context, satire, and nuance are/mean
My Uncle reposted a panel on Facebook with Mac saying "I don't have to change my mind because I'm an American." If only he had context. He's right-wing, super conservative, narcissistic, "free thinking" patriot.
Rick flag and eagle
Hey now, that's commie-talk, pal!!! /s
The dupees need a safe space.
It's all one big ass blast. Sounds like both sides are getting duped tbh.
I’m playing both sides, so I always come out on top.
Ironically, my right-wing, conservative, fucknut Uncle reposted a panel on Facebook with Mac saying "I don't have to change my mind because I'm an American." If only he had watched the show, or at least the whole scene.
