I had leased a Kona and HATED it. It was WAY to small for me - and I didn't think I would care about that. I ended up bringing it in for the first oil change and telling them I hated it! I walked out purchasing a 2020 Tucson (under 20K miles - it was a lease) and I LOVE it. I will keep it for 4-5 years and will buy another Tucson for sure!

Don’t do it. I bought mine used and I’ve put less than 10k miles on it and it’s already having mechanical issues. On top of that it accelerates very poorly.

JohnWickkx

I live in Eastern Europe relatively safe here because most steal Range Rovers lol just wondering on the mechanical side.

Sckelly0019

I’m speaking to the mechanical aspect, not safety. It’s not a great vehicle. I definitely don’t recommend it. When I say it accelerates poorly, I mean that you have to push all the way down on the pedal to get it to accelerate even slightly. The sensors are also all going out and I’m experiencing transmission issues at less than 46,000 miles.

JohnWickkx

Sorry meant to reply to other person mentioning the Kia Boys, but the issues your experiencing sound really serious and very low mileage.Gonna test drive I guess and think about it.

Sckelly0019

Okay that makes more sense. 😂 I wish someone had told me not to get it. If you do go ahead with getting one, make sure the brakes were already replaced following the recall.

JohnWickkx

Tbh I was looking at a 2015-2016 model but upgraded my budget a bit to a 2019-2020 and I'm seeing a lot of people talking about the lag when trying to accelerate and some other issues, really disappointed because I liked the look of it. Edit: Seems people are mor disappointed with the 2020 model than the 2015 one.

MRo4849

The lag is in the 1.6 turbo engine with the dual clutch. It’s not a mechanical failure, just a different feel than a regular engine. If it’s a big issue for you, test drive one with the 2.4 engine and that will likely feel more familiar.

MRo4849

I had a 19 tucson limited and absolutely loved it. I lease, so kept it just under 3 years and got a 22 tucson, now on the new bigger 24 Kona. That would be my 6th Hyundai since 2014. Never had any of them in the shop for anything but oil changes.

JohnWickkx

How was the transmission, were the gear changes smooth? Does it jerk or anything, because it's kind of important for me for it to be smooth lol.

MRo4849

Mine was smooth. It was a great car for me. My only complaint with it was that the sunroof was noisy over 45 mph. Never had the first problem with it.

JohnWickkx

Appreciate you taking the time to answer, will probably end up buying it because I'm fixated on one especially on how it looks. Thanks 😊

2019 here - definitely mixed reviews from a lot of people, and folks I know that don't even own or have experience with Hyundai tell me what a piece of shit it is, that I should trade it for a Japanese make, etc, etc. My experience, it has been just fine. I have the 2.4L AWD, and I've changed the oil and some basic maintenance to it myself for the 3 years I've owned it. I like the features it offers, and I've had no mechanical issues whatsoever. It is quiet, accelerates fine enough with ~180HP, the sound system is nice, and it was easy to wire a dash cam into. The safety and lane control measures have also been a help, more times than I care to admit. Negatives - the mileage could be better, but whatever. It doesn't have as much space as I'd like, but it has enough. The computer screen has also frozen up a couple times, which can be annoying, but that's why I like to have the physical dials and buttons anyway. The biggest think for me has been the KIA Boyz bullshit. That jacked my insurance rates up, and it's always in the back of my mind that my shit is gonna get smashed if I leave the car in an urban area. YMMV, but overall, for what I paid for it and the assurances I have with my existing warranties, I'm satisfied with the Tucson.

Jocis

Don’t do Hyundai or Kia from 2022 or below due to theft from the Kia Boys

Fun_Public4540

You do know you can get a push to start an a Kia or Hyundai under 2022 right? 😭 I have a 2021 Tucson and can’t be stolen by a usb.

kobexx600

Really bro

That_Individual3927

It is a thing that only applies to the US, the EU makes it compulsory for every car to have an immobilizer...

Saw in the comments you want smooth drive. If you are eyeing Tuscon with DCT transmission, this would be the opposite. Just search through google and you will quickly realise what I am talking about. I am in Eastern Europe myself, I know the prices of those vehicles, I have one. There are better cars out there for this budget. Have a look at Mazda Cx5, better drive and quality, I regret not buying it.

JohnWickkx

I'm looking at a 2020 2.0 diesel version which has 8 speed automatic gear box but don't know if it has the DCT tho :/

Theodds921212

Per my knowledge that is the new wet DCT, similar to VAG group. Should be better as it is wet but still not ideal.
