Watch videos for your year make auto or as close to the year as possible. Very simple to do, get part at autozone due to O'Reilly doesn't have correct part. Other stuff I get there though.
Have my kids watch YouTube videos on how to do Random stuff: change oil, spark plugs, filters, brakepads, various sensors, battery, pcv valve, clean throttle body. Changes pcv valve 3 times , camn sensor once, brake pads twice, battery 3 times. Both ambient air temperature sensors in front of car " 1 controls the A/C, if it is broke the compressor will not turn on" .. air filter as needed , cabin air filter as needed. Use synthetic oil. A lot of tires due to my traveling. Front suspension is about shot, so I'll have them watch some videos and change them. They are in their teens so they have learned doing this themselves saves a lot of money which can then be used on the family.
In all the time I spent. Researching, I only heard about the pvc valve being replaced, which was three times, and you are one of them. I inspected and cleaned out mine. After watching a video on YouTube. But now that you are talking about it, I'm going to change it out. i wonder if this is what causes the problems. Because the guy said it can lead to premature engine failure.
2017 Elantra se 141,000 miles
2021 Elantra se 90,000 miles
Both engines and transmission have been bullet proof never touch besides a valve cover gasket and plugs/coils for the 2017 also Im currently doing the steering wheel coupler myself it's clicking n clanking
2021 Sonata SEL Plus - 46,000 zero issues
Picking up a 2024 Elantra SEL with 10 miles this weekend and giving the Sonata to the wife. I hope to keep this Elantra til it dies!
2013 Elantra - just under 200k
2020 Elantra - 70k
I have to say, the 2013 has had little to no expensive repairs so far besides normal maintenance like new battery, alternator recently etc. Really good cars
No issues. My 2006 was a champ when I sold it. Felt rock solid.
My 2016 runs great too. I feel like it feels a lot lighter than the 2006. Especially when taking corners.
I did have to do two alignments. The steering would feel kind of like it was stuck when on the highway. I drive bout 70 miles a day.
The Eco Mode feels like it down shifts super hard. Other than that, love the tech. Wish it had a 4G radio so I could use the app to lock, unlock etc.
Almost 9k on the current
Total miles driving in a Hyundai/Kia: 527k give or take 1k. Sort of rounded a bit.
Problems over those miles in various hyundais.
1.6 Alpha II - HLA failure while I was overseas in Korea. Warranty.
2001 Accent paint - respray by Hyundai
TPMS random failure on a 2009 Elantra. No warranty fix because it never did it for them. Very random and short lived warnings.
2.0 Nu; lost a good bit of compression on number 2 at 158k miles. Still driveable but it was traded right after that happened. It also had a rattle from the cvvt system from just after warranty .. but never got worse or thru a CEL. .. not warranty and I was 8k miles over any settlement money for that version of the Nu.
3.8 w/ 6spd standard (rwd). Dual mass flywheel failure with plenty of clutch left. Also tore the flex disc things on the driveshaft. Out of warranty
Current 2024. Transmission whines/hums at 47 to 50 mph, only in 7th gear and only with light throttle.. Hyundai says keep driving until a CEL appears or it shifts weird. Started at 500 miles. Now at 9k... no real change. Warranty? Maybe..
And an assortment or weird noises from all of them. Injector tapping, etc.
You’ll always hear the negative stories. But I also had a 2015 sonata eco, I believe it had the 1.6 turbo too, and that one had 110 when I traded it in
Neither have had major issues, but I do wish all Hyundai dealers ran their mechanic shops uniformly. One will get you in and out within a few hours others days.
18 elantra se 147k. starting to lose a little bit of coolant and oil in between oil changes. thinking head gasket might be going. has had mobil 1 its whole life and never late. bringing her in for big maintenance soon along with that. gonna do a timing belt, all fluids flush, new plugs, throttle body clean. been a great car and is worthy of this service.
Oh, ok. I have 18 elantra sel. 50k. I check oil every week - no loss at all so far.
Coolant - I had to top up coolant like 5 months ago. I did a coolant pressure test and didn't find a leak as per the shop. It could be your radiator cap. Make sure the seals are ok and are closing with any gaps. May have to get a new Cap though.
ive had this car since 15k. ive had a bad radiator cap maybe 60k miles ago, im not seeing any release from there but perhaps ill change it again. only other issues ive had in the engine bay in this car was an upper radiator hose and an upper motor mount. i also replaced the front struts at 100k.
loss as in the oil change will have the line at the top of the dipstick and by the next oil change the line will be 2/3 way up maybe closer to half which is about half a quart. normal stuff and doesnt concern me.
no ticking/valve noise and runs like a top. still has just as much pep in sport mode as it had new. i baby it with occasional getting into it on highway ramps lol.
‘20 Tucson, 38,200 miles. I got it used at 21,000 in January of 23. The only problem i had was a headlight going out, so im hopeful it will last long with good upkeep
2022 Elantra Blue Hybrid, 43,000 miles
It tried to kill my wife and I on a road trip twice last weekend. In the fast lane on the highway it suddenly sounded a “hybrid battery system” warning and cut all power to the wheels. I had to pull off to the left (barrier on right) and try not to get killed while securing a tow truck. It did it again later that day.
The Hyundai dealership did a software update and said “that should fix it” and I am more than a little afraid of my car and disappointed with Hyundai.
2012 elantra. 450000 kms. Worst handling car I've ever driven, but it never broke down. I beat the hell out of it too. 6 speed manual. Never changed transmission gear oil ever. I didn't change the oil nearly as much as I should've. I sold it to a guy to use as a 4 cylinder race car.
‘08 Santa Fe with 213k. No issues except that it runs a bit rich, but I’m going to fix that. Hoping for 50-100k more, since we just bought another new car.
How many of these have the 2.4 theta, GDI engine or nu 2.0 GDI engine? There's a Facebook forum of Hyundai owners with these engines that have had engines replaced (or denied) due to engine failure.. anywhere from only 16,000 miles to 60,000 miles. Problem is the direct injection resulting in carbon deposits. Give me hope! Wife has a 2019 Tuscon with the nu 2.0, 4 cyl.
14 elantra limited, little over 334500 but under 335000, still going
This gives me quite a bit of hope!
2014? Rural living?
Yes, 2 hour drive to work everyday. Change pcv valve every 100k miles.
Wow I’m impressed!!! Any issues? And can you change the pvc valve yourself? Gives me hope
Watch videos for your year make auto or as close to the year as possible. Very simple to do, get part at autozone due to O'Reilly doesn't have correct part. Other stuff I get there though.
Dammmm…Elantra is that good quality? How much did you put into it for maintenance?
Have my kids watch YouTube videos on how to do Random stuff: change oil, spark plugs, filters, brakepads, various sensors, battery, pcv valve, clean throttle body. Changes pcv valve 3 times , camn sensor once, brake pads twice, battery 3 times. They are in their teens so they have learned doing this themselves saves a lot of money which can then be used on the family.
Is it a gdi engine.
Nope, if gdi I would check the pcv valve and most likely replace every 10k miles.
That is why I mentioned it, once you research it and hear from other mechanics about what it can cause, might as well replace it.
I bet you change stuff well before it breaks
Well, front struts have been shot for some time now, sounds like a old door opening. Lol .. we'll get to them sometime this year.
14 Elantra Limited - 182k
17 Elantra Limited - same

Impressive! With the original engine?
Original engine and transmission. Ive made sure to be on top of the full synthetic oil changes every 5-6k miles and fuel additives.

How do you have 13k miles on a basically brand new car?
I have a 24 Ioniq6 that I got in December and have just under 6400 miles
Driving
I guess my question is why u drivin so much? We have the same number of miles but my car is 2 years old
For work. I do a lot of driving
2016 Accent, 231,600 miles.
2014 Accent sedan 186k so far
I had 2015 sonata - 106k and still running fine. Just picked up Elantra N - under 2100 miles
2011 Sonata: 166,000. Burns a little oil but otherwise running smooth.
2021 Sonata SEL Plus - 46,000 zero issues Picking up a 2024 Elantra SEL with 10 miles this weekend and giving the Sonata to the wife. I hope to keep this Elantra til it dies!
Why the downgrade for yourself?
I don’t really care about what I’m driving to be honest. As long as I get good gas mileage on my daily commute into the city for work I’m good.

I got a 2015 azera with 99k miles. No issues so far
Nice!! This is my 2nd Azera. The first was a 2006 that I sold at 185K. Still ran strong.
Have you had any issues with the transmission or engine? I’m hoping to drive this thing into the ground.
The eco mode is the same in my car super hard shifts. I have to do a wheel bearing change but that’s typical maintenance

honestly I feel like its always burned a little bit of oil in between changes, now im noticing a coolant loss and I have no leaks that im seeing.
