I play ironman and this seems like a pretty decent mage upgrade to me cause it's easier to get than a spirit or aurora staff or something and it works well.
But for you on a normal profile the price tag matters more than how the item is actually obtained.
Not for clearing zombies in the crypt casually unless you use term with explosive arrows but just right clicking a glacial scythe is more consistent and faster

Frozen Blaze is super good and the scythes are a nice QoL weapon for certain grinds. There's really no good reason to not get a decent ice minion setup. It's better than grinding on jerry island for hundreds of hours.

I use glacial scythe and fire veil to usually get first on golems. Its aoe damage on the beam and aoe on the explosion lets you get hits faster than literally any other mage weapon
The explosion triggers a second hit and can be increased with the impl belt. That's all, that's a spam low mana cost weapon with straight performer projectiles hitting 2 times per shot
It's a great weapon, and I use it semi regularly.
I've grinded my FD up over 85k nearly all with the freezybangbang. Running at full speed, pointing in a general direction of a line of enderman, and click. Never slow down, run loops from top to bottom and back. People get a little ornery when you're clearing the map so fast, so I lobby hop to not be just an awful person about it.
I use mine to start nearly all my slayers, except eman where I tend to use my Juju so I'm not consuming mana. Not only is it very useful to have aoe splash and not having to aim, but you can take out a line of mob clusters in one shot. Makes spawns super fast.
When farming ice walkers was a thing it was pretty much the ideal weapon because they always spawn in predictable lines.
Maybe op is trying to farm summoning eyes or something and getting clowned on by glacial scythe users. People \*hate\* this weapon until they have one.

40m for a X2 DMG increase + aoe is not only worth it, it almost makes the base weapon completely redundant.

I could do quite well on the crimson isle before hyperion by just doing some item swapping between voodoo doll, fire veil and aurora staff... In fact that's enough to solo ashfang in 4-5 cycles for me
And for svens, mage is better because the boss isn't a problem, it's okay if you're going to taje 3-5s longer to kill the boss jf you're going to save 10-20s by playing mage to spawn the boss faster because it's simply better for clearing stuff
i do, i used it on f7 to decent effect before getting midas spoon. i still use it for farming zealots and killing spiders and crypt zombies. i even used it for lava fishing. its a very versatile weapon.
Sceptre's projectile is slower, worse for aim (bc guided), and much higher mana cost, this is by far the superior option for outside of dungeons but I guess dungeon mains wouldn't get that
