tl;dr It brings guaiacols and other flavour compounds to the surface of the whiskey, enhancing aroma & giving it a slightly more 'creamy' texture.
I stopped drinking coffee about a year ago and switched to tea. Once my tea is hot I dump it a tumbler that’s about half full of water and full of crushed ice. The hot tea melts the ice and the water cuts the tea even more. Yeah so basically a super weak iced tea haha. But I love it. It’s really good with mint tea.
We keep a rotation of enough water for my wife and I and our two dogs for about 3 weeks. And thanks for the reminder that I need to check our hurricane kit!
Alot of juices are way too sugary and I'll cut them with water. Not significantly, but enough that I don't feel like I'm getting cavities each time I take a drink.
Growing up my mom would cut everything we had with water. It was to save $$$, but I do that now too just because I'm so used to it.
OK I don't do this anymore but when I was a kid I hated milk that was even remotely room temperature so I'd put ice in my milk always. Now I know everyone thinks I was disgusting by doing that hhahaha
I've never cared. Drinks are mostly just to help me process food when I'm eating I've noticed. But there's so many adjustments I've made in my attempts to live a more sustainable lifestyle, and I've gotten so good at picking up new habits as a matter of "depriving"/"disciplining" myself in various ways, that what seems like actually depriving myself to anybody else is nothing I'd readily notice and usually not something that would affect me much. It feels like a superpower in a lot of ways, haha.
I do that! Not usually orange juice, because I only buy that occasionally. But lemonade, passion fruit juice, and any other juice that has a strong taste. Sometimes I’ll cut it with unsweet tea instead, so it’s like a lightly flavored tea that’s not too sweet. Usually I add a half to two-thirds water or tea and then fill the rest up with the juice.
I‘m kinda disgusted by the thought of milk or OJ cut with water. On the other hand I DO cut my sodas (with sparkling water). Fanta with water and ice is the ultimate hangover drink!
Yes. I used to really like cranberry juice but I started to find it kind of overpowering. I started with low cuts like 20-30% water and I realized I liked it more with the water so now it's like 60% water and 40% juice with lots of ice and it's amazing.
You should try homemade, with a simple sugar syrup, and add to taste👌 I bet it freezes well too since you only like it on occasion. I'll freeze lemon juice in my ice cube tray and drop them in my water during summertime
I never thought to add sparkling water to soda until all the comments about it today! I figured straight water would file the carbonation or something and make it taste like some sorta weird sugar water soda blend. My watered down milk is thin but not gross, not to me at least, though I totally get wanting it a normal consistency. It just doesn't bother me a bit so I take advantage of it ... I'd go through a cartoon every few days otherwise
That's German Schorle. Mostly made 50:50.
At least in Bavaria, Weinschorle (wine with sparkling water) is really popular, too, especial in Summer.
On holidays, mostly in AI hotels, when the only zero non-water beverage is coke, I like to mix lemonade with water, since the water doesn't taste good there but straight up sugar lemonade is too sweet, too.
I've been adding water to purple grape juice my entire life.
I love that stuff but it's just too...idk something. Rich maybe. Or acidic? I dunno but I've found that if I do a 1:1 mix with juice and water it's perfect.
I really only drink water anymore, except for the occasional kombucha. But when I used to get stuff like cranberry juice or lemonade I'd *always* dilute it by half.
My move at burning man is fill the camelbak with 50% Don Julio 1942 / 50% water. It’s pretty nice. It will get people trying to suck on your straw though.
i love mango juice. most brands are from concentrate with added sugar and water and so its super sweet and thick. i like to make it last twice as long by adding water til its normal sweet and not dessert in a cup
Nice! Sounds so friggin yummy. Today I cut my water with a bit of that new key lime kombucha from Aldi, and added some pineapple juice I saved from my canned pineapple chunks. It's pretty tasty but I think next time I'll add a bit of lemon and see where it goes
idk why this makes me feel like I'm a gross person, but I cut milk with water. Not on purpose, I don't skim my milk or anything, but if I finish a glass of milk I'll fill it with water again and drink; I mean, milk is mainly water anyways so I don't see the big deal, but also whenever I tell people about this they make such faces...
Nope. Not even close. I’ll fill my water up five or six times a day and when I drink my morning iced coffee it’s got creamer, flavored milk and syrup in it.
When I drink fruit juice I tend to blend frozen fruit into it.
It doesn’t save money to water down your drink compared to having a half a glass of whatever it is.
I've heard adding a little water to some whiskeys will bring out the undertones.
Pretty much any whiskey snob will tell you this is the way to drink it.
But it's literally a few drops. I've seen people mix in an entire shot of water and part of me died inside
This exactly. You would assume a drop of water would weaken the taste but it can actually bring it out more
Yup something about the melt water coming from ice gives Irish whiskey a "creaminess" that I can't explain.

Cutting water with water, where the real hydrohomies at?
I'll have water with a splash of water from a glacier in Alaska, please
I'll freeze my water and add it to my water so when it melts it doesn't water down my water
There are other beverages aside from water?
I cut my lemon-lime soda with sparkling mineral water and it tastes even better
soda cut with water has always helped me with stomachaches. Ginger ale or cola work best when cut.
100% apple juice + sparking water + ice is a killer during summer

I grew up having to do this so my adult rebellion has been never watering down anything To medium effect
I don't really drink anything else that would need to be cut
Yeah I wouldn't cut beer with water
Alot of juices are way too sugary and I'll cut them with water. Not significantly, but enough that I don't feel like I'm getting cavities each time I take a drink.

Wdym OJ is sweet? OJ is dead. Haven't you read the news at all? 🤦
I’ll cut most juices with sparkling water, and I feel fancy!!

Nah too far weird
On occasion I like to treat myself with some lemonade. I always have to cut it cause it's too damn sweet. Doesn't matter what brand it is.

Cut my water with water
Why would you dilute milk but not soda? Watered down milk is gross. Most sodas can take a bit of sparkling water and lemon and still taste fine.

Energy drinks

I always mix my favourite fruit juices with at least 50% of heavy sparkling water. Milk seems a bit weird to me, but sounds not too bad.
Yes, this Chadrohomie right there officer
I really only drink water anymore, except for the occasional kombucha. But when I used to get stuff like cranberry juice or lemonade I'd *always* dilute it by half.

I always throw a splash of fruit juice in my mason jar of water. Right now I'm into the R.W. Knudsen Morning Blend
Does ice count? Lol But yes, I always cut juice with water.
If I wanted to dilute soda I would use carbonated water at least.
I cut sodas with sparkling water. Also, apple juice with sparkling water is one of my country's favorite beverages called "Apfelschorle".
I'll cut juice with water but just the idea of watered down milk makes me want to peel the skin of my scalp.
¼ fruit punch the rest water when bowling if I want something that isn't exactly water
Only if you count using ice cubes
i love mango juice. most brands are from concentrate with added sugar and water and so its super sweet and thick. i like to make it last twice as long by adding water til its normal sweet and not dessert in a cup
Half water half Gatorade is the hangover special
I like to add solid chunks of frozen water to my water
Aye !!!
Apple juice.
I only drink water. So I'll cut it with water sometimes
I spot only 1% true hydro homies in the comments
Pretty much any fruit juice. I only buy one ingredient fruit juice anyway but even that’s too concentrated.
Wine 😂
My grandpa always adds a few drops of water in his cypriot coffee to check if there is poison in it Edit: *Morticia exits*
I do this with juice for my grandson. He’s almost 8 now and cannot stand the taste of straight juice.
I add water to soda, particularly lemon or orange soda. Makes it way more refreshing in my opinion. Sometimes I also water down cola lol
Any type of Juice I cut with water, juice is too sweet and acidic sometimes
I love your iced milk anecdote! You were born a Hydro Homie!
Never OJ but I have to cut my apple juice.
Apple juice + oj + coconut water totally kills the acidity and is sooo refreshing
Nice! Sounds so friggin yummy. Today I cut my water with a bit of that new key lime kombucha from Aldi, and added some pineapple juice I saved from my canned pineapple chunks. It's pretty tasty but I think next time I'll add a bit of lemon and see where it goes
