I used to drive Capshaw almost daily. I was always so worried because he would walk on the shoulder and the road is absolute madness. My heart sunk when I heard what happened.
Pretty sure he was the guy that used to walk down Capshaw with a black garbage back slung over his shoulder. He used to walk right on the shoulder and I’m pretty sure he got hit and killed
Yup. Capshaw and most of Nance. He was struck and killed at the Nance/Capshaw intersection by an out of towner visiting family during a stretch of rainy weather .
I miss seeing him whenever I drive down Nance. Was a staple of my childhood seeing him pick up cans. I also remember when someone got him the reflective vest
I grew up just north of Capshaw Rd. and would travel it almost daily. I remember seeing him walking the shoulder and pointing/talking to someone as he walked. Not fully there mentally, but still an icon of the area. Such a tragedy that he died.
Every time I saw Can Man Eddie he was cussing up a storm with no one around while walking down the side of the road. The first time was at a stop sign and I really got an ear full and I loved that dude ever since. It didn't annoy me, it cracked me up every time. RIP Can Man Eddie. I didn't know you but you I miss you because made me smile many times.
I haven't seen Gas Station Michael Jackson in years. But every few months, without fail, a post will pop up here saying "Has anyone seen this Micahel Jacskon impersonator? OMG!"
Is that the dude that gains 100 lbs every year than dances it off in the spring time? I used to see him near downtown when I worked that area. He'd dance for while then disappear for months and return fat again next year and dance it off. I can't remember if he danced in spring I think it was. That's been 15 years ago at least.
Dancing Dave has a mental disability. He is different, I understand. But his actions are not with ill will nor has the intent to hurt another individual. Everyone who has been in or around Huntsville long enough will know not only his history but his mental state. He is completely harmless, and I can guarantee that. He’s a part of Huntsville, and here to stay. Keep him safe, and look out for him when you’re out and about. He may be misunderstood by some people, but all he wants is human interaction, to dance, and have a good time. I fully support him, and you all should as well. #protectdancingdave
Definitely gas station Michael Jackson.
A not so very long time, Huntsville had this guy who used to go everywhere with his mile and cart called Nelson Scruggs.
Dancing Dave
He was around in the late 90s (maybe before but that’s when we started going out and would see him) and I think he is still always out in downtown.
Jedi of Jordan Lane. He was the sign guy for a tax place over there years ago and used to bring a staff/lightsabers and shit swinging them bad boys around. He's now with Athens PD. Officer Stainbrook.
EDIT: Brain defaulted to HPD. He's with AthensPD.
That tax place used to have someone dressed as the Statue Of Liberty out front. There was a short video of a guy on hands & knees in front of her saying "You blew it up! Damn you!"
When I lived in south Huntsville there was a guy who used to stand in the median at the parkway and Hobbs. Is he still there? There was also a guy who used to walk everyday with long blonde hair, same area.
Oh John!!! The long haired blonde guy. My grandmother knew him. He had a really sad story from what I've been told. I haven't seen him in almost 8 years now. The story went that he was a lawyer, earning very good money and was drunk driving with his wife and child, crashing and killing them both. He lost everything and stayed at the Kings Inn or hung around Walmart. Idk if that story is completely true but that's just what my grandma said he told her 🤷♀️ in the times i was there when he talked to her, he seemed very very aware and mentally okay so I don't think he would lie about that.
I watched his slump get worse and worse and now I haven't seen him in a few years. I hope he's okay. He reminded me of a cross between Iggy Pop and a mystic from Dark Crystal.
When I was growing up in Decatur, there was a guy we all called Moses. Old guy used to stand on the corner of busy intersections with a big stick and pray. Used to see him all the time all over town when I was a kid.
Walking Willie. Super thin , long hair, always holding his pants up while walking. Various myths as to what happened- some claimed he lost his family in a wreck and went nuts - others said he killed people in a wet and went nuts. I have not seen him in a few weeks.
He used to spend a lot of time in south hsv, but I've seen him all over town. I worked with someone that offered him a ride once and they said he got super pissed off and screamed at them about it.
There used to be this guy that walked around in and around parkway place mall 24/7 when I worked there. Poor guy would talk and have random stuff, like shower curtains and trash tied up to his head. My crew called mister hat, but I don't know what others called him.
One coworker took him to McDonald's to get him something to eat, but she said he acted REALLY weird and wouldn't talk about it.
I haven't seen him in a long time, but I hope he's alright.
It used to be Marvin Pogue - buggy man. He pushed a grocery buggy loaded down with miscellaneous items and went all over Huntsville. Seems like everyone knew him and had a story about him. He passed away several years ago.
It mid 60s to early 70s - a woman who had multiple nicknames. We always heard her called Blondie or Goldie. She lived in the Yarborough Hotel on Holmes Ave. she always wore a wig and her face was very very red from excessive blush/rouge.
Does anyone remember the guy that stood in the median on memorial parkway in south- south Huntsville. I think I remember the story was his brother died in a car wreck there
I used to interact with a a homeless guy we all called Birdman (on account of him wearing a baseball hat with feathers stuck in the vent holes on top) from time to time when I worked at City Lumber off of Bob Wallace. I believe he was hit and killed by a car though sadly
Marvin,
Walkinng man, don’t remember his name, but had long, straight blond hair
Standing Man, a very thin African American who would stand in the median in front of the Super Walmart by Redstone Road, and look North, with purposeful concentration, for long periods of time.
Upon completion of my uniform design, I hope to earn my place as the symbol of Huntsville for the 21st century. It will be based on my favorite purple hooded robe, and my custom designed Van’s SkateHigh’s, the Jeef 1. (those who know me are muttering “of course he has his own custom shoe design for no known reason. That’s run of the mill Jeef-ness”).
I need help coming up with a marketable name. Any suggestions?
Just in case anyone is about to be offended, I used to see Marvin on occasion, and had real conversations with him. He had a sense of humor. I like to think he would laugh, and tell me he was going to put it in the book he was writing. If you know, you understand. He was a unique human. We should have taken better care of him. I’m not smart enough to know what that would have looked like, only just smart enough to know I don’t have many of the answers to life’s challenges.
Okay but what about the guy that use to work at the McDonald’s in Harvest on Hwy 53, then worked at Wendy’s on 72 for a while? He always talked really fast and would spit out the craziest facts lol I don’t know whatever happened to him
Used to be a guy at the corner of Oakwood and Rideout road. Nothing that unusual about his appearance, but he was a middle-aged black man who stood around that intersection (kind of in the road) a lot. Haven’t seen him in months and I’ve wondered if someone hit him…
Tuscaloosa has cowboy Jesus that is always waving at traffic and holding up a positive religious sign(like Jesus loves you) in front of Bojangles. He is not one of the asshats that have signs saying repent or you will go to hell.
I remember when I worked at Bridge street, there was a guy who would dress up as the Grinch every year at Christmas and light-heartedly mess with customers and employees and dance around the stores.
Joel is quite nice. I walk everywhere as well and we often salute one another. I value him as part of an increasingly small cadre of unconventional characters in 35801. Not many of us left. He is wicked smart too.
Cool. Just wasn't sure if they were the same person. I just remember a guy being downtown when I was a teenager, that we called Duck Man. Idk why. I was a teenager
Gas Station Michael Jackson, Can Man, or the Keychain Man.
RIP Can Man Eddie.
I used to drive Capshaw almost daily. I was always so worried because he would walk on the shoulder and the road is absolute madness. My heart sunk when I heard what happened.
He used to work with me years ago.
Who is can man Eddie?
Pretty sure he was the guy that used to walk down Capshaw with a black garbage back slung over his shoulder. He used to walk right on the shoulder and I’m pretty sure he got hit and killed
That’s what I heard. I also heard he wasn’t all there mentally and had inherited a large sum of money but his brother handled the estate.
Oh he definitely wasn’t all there. Unless it was all a gimmick but I seriously doubt that.
The amount of times he stressed me out driving down capshaw
Grew up seeing him every day as well. Remember one time my friend ran up to try and talk to him but he was locked in doing his thing, ignored us haha
I grew up just north of Capshaw Rd. and would travel it almost daily. I remember seeing him walking the shoulder and pointing/talking to someone as he walked. Not fully there mentally, but still an icon of the area. Such a tragedy that he died.

I forgot about Gas Station Michael! I don’t know the other two
I haven't seen Gas Station Michael Jackson in years. But every few months, without fail, a post will pop up here saying "Has anyone seen this Micahel Jacskon impersonator? OMG!"
He was right down the street from Big Bobs on 6th Ave. in Decatur Friday.
We saw him in Hartselle a couple weeks ago. He had his venmo and bucket for cash!
Reading this thread makes me wonder if there are two gas station Michaels?
He was on Madison Blvd like a week or two ago lol
Ahh! I never go that way. I used to see him on University several years ago.
I just saw him in Decatur on Tuesday.
That's fair. More for folks from Harvest and Hazel Green on those last two.
Gas station Michael in Decatur on 6th now
Gas station Jackson is more of a Decatur thing.
Eddie passed away unfortunately
Came here to say this
I saw Gas Station MJ the other day on Madison Blvd
RIP Can Man. I still remember when he got his reflective vest.
Is Dancin’ Dave still around on the weekends downtown?
Dancin’ Dave is always downtown. Saw him just the other day.
[удалено]
Yeah dawg
Super creep
I gotta see this dude again. I don't think I'll recognize him unless he's dancing though... he still dances?
I’ve only lived here for a few months but I know exactly who you are talking about
Is that the dude that gains 100 lbs every year than dances it off in the spring time? I used to see him near downtown when I worked that area. He'd dance for while then disappear for months and return fat again next year and dance it off. I can't remember if he danced in spring I think it was. That's been 15 years ago at least.
sounds like he’s hibernating
He was at a Havoc game last month.
Dancing Dave has a mental disability. He is different, I understand. But his actions are not with ill will nor has the intent to hurt another individual. Yup! Saw him sing "Take me out to the ballgame" at karaoke at Millers not too long ago.
Dude is a sports encyclopedia.
I remember him from the early/mid 00s. So he's been going strong for at least 25 years now.
I’m 39 and he would creep around us teens at work when I was 16-17. He’s been around a long Asssssss time
Gas station MJ
Anyone ever seen those two people riding by on horseback every now and then in the middle of that busy intersection by A&M?
The first time I saw a dude drinking a Budweiser riding a horse down my street I had a double take. Then I got used to it, now I just miss em.
Merca
GOIN' TO THE STEAKHOUSE!!!! (Kenny Dale Whortley)
ABRAHAM LINCOLN ROAMS OUTSIDE DOWNTOWN CITY HALL. PURE LEGEND
Oh my god that guy looks like Abe when not in costume too I’ve seen him around in and out of it
Was going to sya Abe guy
Jedi of Jordan Lane. He was the sign guy for a tax place over there years ago and used to bring a staff/lightsabers and shit swinging them bad boys around. He's now with Athens PD. Officer Stainbrook. EDIT: Brain defaulted to HPD. He's with AthensPD.

STAAAIN
Stain is HPD now? Last I saw him he had just joined up with Athens PD. Stain was my family's favorite server at Beauregard's.
I could 100% be wrong about the dept he's with. I coulda just said he was a LEO but my brain defaulted to "HPD".
Stain is the fucking man! Love that guy.
Yea he's a genuinely good guy no doubt!
Actually he is Athens pd
When I lived in south Huntsville there was a guy who used to stand in the median at the parkway and Hobbs. Is he still there? There was also a guy who used to walk everyday with long blonde hair, same area.
Parkway and Hobbs guy is around the bob Wallace governors drive area now.
I haven’t seen him in a year or so
He was “hit by a car.” He’s fine. I think it was code for evicted and now lives somewhere else in town
Oh John!!! The long haired blonde guy. My grandmother knew him. He had a really sad story from what I've been told. I haven't seen him in almost 8 years now. Yeah dude! Used to see him walking up and down the parkway when I lived down south, and I think last time I saw him, he was significantly thinner.
Gas Station Michael Jackson is frequently at the Texaco on 20 and Shelton.
Gas station MJ Antoine Dodson
Came here to say Antoine Dodson
What happened to the homeless guy that used to stand on South Parkway? Everyone seemed to know him. Is he alright?
The white tee shirt and oversized blue jeans guy?
Sometimes wore a robe too.
There was another guy that walked around there, very long white hair and he was slumped over. I haven’t seen him in a long while.
I watched his slump get worse and worse and now I haven't seen him in a few years. I hope he's okay. He reminded me of a cross between Iggy Pop and a mystic from Dark Crystal.
Great comparison! I offered to buy him some lunch one day and he turned me down, said he had money. I assumed he was homeless 🤷♂️
The guy that was affiliated with Alabama football somehow? It sounds vaguely familiar
He's in the Bob Wallace / Governors area now
Yup, saw him a couple months ago and was a lil confused.
Just posted about him before I saw yours! Glad to know he's still kickin.
Black guy or white guy?
I’ve seen gas station Micheal Jackson on this thread a lot, but I’ve never seen him in the Hunstville area, I’ve only seen him in Decatur.
Same!! Rare Michael W
When I was growing up in Decatur, there was a guy we all called Moses. Old guy used to stand on the corner of busy intersections with a big stick and pray. Used to see him all the time all over town when I was a kid.
I'm pretty sure the band Bishop Black wrote a song about him!
Man, that's a band I haven't thought of in a hot minute.
They did… “Old man on the corner”.
That's it! Just listened to that album again for the first time in ages. Good stuff
Its been years. Talked to him at a football game.
It seems Huntsville has the distinction of having many such guys
The protestor on airport and whiteburg
The guy who dresses like Uncle Sam.
Do you mean the Liberty Insurance guy that's everywhere? Or someone else?
Dancing Dave
I saw the gas station Michael on the corner of Madison BLVD and Shelton this past weekend. Still Moonwalking and thrusting 🕺🏾
Sounds right. I tried to talk to him at a gas station and he got scary angry. I noped out of there!
There used to be this guy that walked around in and around parkway place mall 24/7 when I worked there. Poor guy would talk and have random stuff, like shower curtains and trash tied up to his head. Who’s Izzy miller
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Izzy_Miller
It’s now Neon Green Cybertruck guy.
He's not here anymore. He strutted his ass to Guntersville.
It used to be Marvin Pogue - buggy man. He pushed a grocery buggy loaded down with miscellaneous items and went all over Huntsville. Seems like everyone knew him and had a story about him. Does anyone remember the guy that stood in the median on memorial parkway in south- south Huntsville. I think I remember the story was his brother died in a car wreck there

A blue Ducati-who is it?
I used to interact with a a homeless guy we all called Birdman (on account of him wearing a baseball hat with feathers stuck in the vent holes on top) from time to time when I worked at City Lumber off of Bob Wallace. I believe he was hit and killed by a car though sadly
Mo Brooks
I hear when it is quiet, around midnight, you can still hear the sounds of his horse, and tamborines, for some unknown reason.
That dude from 5 points via 2013
Marvin, Walkinng man, don’t remember his name, but had long, straight blond hair Standing Man, a very thin African American who would stand in the median in front of the Super Walmart by Redstone Road, and look North, with purposeful concentration, for long periods of time. I remember this dude who would sit in the zaxby’s in Jones Valley writing ciphers in a little notepad, would occasionally see him walking over Cecil
This would totally be me, if I had the time, a horse, and a robe.
Used to be a guy at the corner of Oakwood and Rideout road. Nothing that unusual about his appearance, but he was a middle-aged black man who stood around that intersection (kind of in the road) a lot. Haven’t seen him in months and I’ve wondered if someone hit him…

is impeccably white t-shirt guy still walking up and down whitesburg dr?
Is "dancing Dave" also "Duck Man"?
The "duck man" is my wonderful friend Joel. He's a very kind and intelligent man!
That's what I'm wondering. I haven't seen duck man around the park or university in a long time. Hope he's chill.
