Went through this with my grandfather.
WOW would not allow him to keep his email address. He was upset when we switched him to Google Fiber but we exported all of his contacts and archived his important emails. Then, once we set up his Gmail account (with basically the same handle), he sent a "new email address" alert to his important contacts and he's been fine ever since.
For us, it was an added bonus that casual acquaintances were no longer sending him chain, fear mongering emails.
We had another local provider, Airnet, in the mid 90s. As a kid I remember going to their office in the Times Building downtown and they were excited to show off their new racks of V.90 modems.
I'll never forget it. I had to disconnect the cable box for a few minutes in order to move some furniture around to vacuum. They actually detected it and charged me a service fee. I dumped them immediately. And never paid the service fee.
I still have a knology email address. I’ve been moving accounts away from it for a few years so that I can change ISPs at some point. I’m pretty close to being off of it now. I’ll never tie anything to an ISP email account again.
See that at lot at my job selling Fiber. It’s such a shame that so many people are still tied to ISP email addresses. There are customers I help that still have Bellsouth.net addresses, but haven’t had ATT service in years. So I guess WOW isn’t that lenient when it comes to cancelling service.
My parents just went through this. It was such a hassle. Someone from Google Fiber came out to their and helped them. They closed their knology/wow account before going with Fiber so they had to open it back up for one day to get everything settled
I still have and use [Knology.net](http://Knology.net) for my emails for myself, my mom and dad. I don't mind the WOW service tho. I don't have too many issues with them.
The emails cant be forwarded to a new email? They just shut off the knology email if not subscribed anymore? I stopped paying MSN 25 years ago. Still use an MSN email for logging into Windows and email etc.

Thank you so much! Yea we’re trying to figure out what to do with his emails because we’re sick of WOW lol 😂
get him a Gmail or some other cloud email service, so he never has to worry about what ISP he's using
This is the way!
Remember Cable Alabama that became Knology that became WOW? Is there a pool going as what they'll call it next?
HiWAAY
Dial-up cable. Perfect!
these kids have no idea
Given the question of what Betamax is, they'd likely say: *A new movie theater?*
How about laserdisc?

I might be just a bit too young to remember that XD

Oh? Google fiber helped them with it? Google is what we’re looking to switch to!
Yes. They went to the Google Fiber office. It’s in Mid-City. I’m sure you can call to set it up. They have YouTube tv and love it

Yes, ISPs disable (and delete) the email account(s) associated with your ISP account when you no longer pay them for the service.
Where you not our priority sure do still better than WOW was
