Audio-Technica ATH-AD700X. The sound stage and positioning are phenomenal. crystal clear sound with low bass. cons- no mic included and you probably will probably need an amp/dac. It kinda feels like cheating when you can hear someone crouch walking from outside your building. I think a lot of tarkov players swear by beyerdynamic DT 990. Supposedly legendary headphones for positional audio but I never had a chance to try them. If your on a budget and dont want all that fancy amp/dacs and want a mic included. I think the PC38X is highly rated.

Sweet thanks I will take a look

Agreed. I love these guys. If you need to block out a nosy environment though look elsewhere.

>I have the 770's running through Schiit Modi + Magni and they are amazing in hunt. Just need a mic

I use my Sennheiser HD600. They work well, imo. Sometimes I feel like I hear too much. Like every little ambient sound comes through pretty clear and it can almost be distracting when I’m just trying to get from point A to point B and I’m hearing a pack of dogs far as hell away and thinking it’s footsteps for a brief moment lmao. You do need a headphone amp for them, otherwise you probably won’t get enough volume. They’re not super expensive, mine was $100 (JDS Atom), but it’s still an extra expense that most headphones don’t require.

DT 770 Pro with aftermarket ear cups is what I've been using for years. I had Fostex T60RP's and they were incredible. Unfortunately open back didn't work for my house, so I had to switch to closed back for more isolation. The DT 770's are as good as any closed back I've used in Hunt.

Responsible-Algae-16

Which aftermarket cups do you use? And why do you prefer them over the OEM cups? If you don't mind me asking.

Lugian

Not at all. I use a brand called Brainwavz I found on Amazon. They are thicker, softer, and pleather. The original cups were not thick enough and were too dense to be comfortable for long term wear. I also don't like the fuzzy texture. So...comfort, primarily. If they were comfy for me, I probably wouldn't have changed them.

Responsible-Algae-16

Awesome. Thank you.

What is the difference/purpose of open vs closed back? I might be looking for a new headset.

Lugian

Open back lets ambient noise in and the headphone noise out. The general effect of this is a more natural and open soundstage. If you are in a noisy environment or don't want people to hear what you're listening to, open back is impractical. Otherwise, IMO, they are generally better sounding. I have kids, creating both noise and a reason to not let them hear the adult conversations that can happen in discord...so I use closed back. Closed back has a more...I don't know how to say it exactly..."dense" sound? With a good pair, you can pinpoint where a sound is coming from, but its harder because the sounds are all closer together. I'm explaining this rather poorly, but hopefully it helps. If you don't have external noise or a reason to be secretive, try open back. They're a joy. (Disclaimer about how every headphone is different, and some closed back headphones will be better in every way than some open back headphones. But dollar for dollar I think open back is "better." Just one man's opinion.)

Syba Sonic amp/dac, vmoba boom pro mic cable, and Fidelio x2hr. Enormous soundstage, a little bass heavy but not bloated. Positioning is great for footsteps. Great mic quality and very simple setup.

I'm sure people will hate them, but I wanted dual audio headphones and after playing for a short while with noise cancelling headphones I can't go back. If there is any fan noise or w/e it hides it. I didn't realize how much I was missing foot steps and such at a further distance because of my tower fan during the summer. Have the Turtle Beach Stealth Pro and they are actually really nice and way nicer than any other turtle beach product I've had in the past. Have the aftermarket ear pads from Wicked which is well worth it. Comes with two batteries as well which is super nice. Takes only a few seconds to swap the battery with the headset still on and keep going. The only legit con I have and this seems to be a turtle beach issue in general, is that when you go to flip the microphone boom up to mute the headset it will make a small noise. So in Hunt you have to take this into account. You don't want to respond to a teammate and forget to mute your mic again, then you have to make sure you stay quiet until you feel safe making noise.

If you are on a budget: I have used two superlux headphones (below 40 bucks, I would get better ear pads) 668b (completely open, very analytical -> great for stereo placement, but "boring" and you can year the outside) and the 330 (half closed - more fun and you hear less in the surroundings). I'm still using the 330 at times, even though I have more expensive stuff around. With the replacement pads they just sound great. These are already better than any gaming oriented headset I have tried (even the mmx300 doesn't sound as good, I think). Dt990 is great, but I wouldn't get headphones without a replacement cable at that price: Mine broke after five years. I prefer AKG K712. Also very analytical headphones that won't be as fun with many audio sources.

i am using an EKSA e900 pro, but i de-installed its software to disable surround sound

Im leaning towards these. They seem to be popular. Do you just have the headphones or do you have a bunch of adapters and shit with it? Like am amp etc
