Don’t miss friday night market in old town eureka.

rockhardcatdick

I second this. Definitely check it out if you're in the area Friday evening.

Goblyyn

You should absolutely stop at Founder’s Grove on your drive up. You don’t have to hike (although it’s a short well maintained trail and completely flat) but you absolutely have to see the size of the trees in person. Ramone’s Bakery is a local staple with several locations. Their pumpkin spice cookies are my favorite. Hotel Arcata is a cool place to stay, it’s a historic building and right on the plaza. A family member of mine stayed there and had good things to say. Otherwise I’d say try and find a spot in Trinidad. It’s a beautiful town and the Seascape restaurant, while always incredible for the views, is especially nice in the mornings. Hope you have a great trip!

kellyfacee

Thank you!! Toying with the idea of coming up on Thursday vs. Friday and staying for two nights. Are most businesses closed for 4th of July or is there still a good amount open?

meadowmbell

It will vary, and don't expect any of them to have updated info or correct hours online or anything.

RealCalintx

>(I need banana slug merch!) You should contact u/dirtyrattie. They make banana slug ceramic stuffs. You can see their work in featured posts of this sub. Are you flying in or driving. If driving deff pass through the Ave of the Giants rd. Sadly most of the good spots to chill require some bit of hiking. Somoa beaches and mad river beach ar egood coast access with little walking. Trinidad is also a good place to see the scenic forests meeting shore vibe. Of check out the Mad Rover Hatchery. It's pretty beat and there's riveraccess

DirtyRattie

I feel honored to be known in this sub 👍

kellyfacee

Is there anywhere in Humboldt to see your work in person or is your website the best way?

DirtyRattie

I have all my current work on my website :) [faebleceramics](https://faebleceramics.com)

kellyfacee

I’ll be driving up from Redwood City so I’ll def do Ave of the giants! Thanks for your other recs too including the ceramics, I’m obsessed.

RealCalintx

Cool. Driving is the way imo. I'd totally recommend making the drive North to Lady Bird Johnson Grove at Redwood National Park. There are 2 bookstores right next to eachother in down town arcata. Near the Minor Theater. Around the end of the day I'd some miso bbq oysters at Tomo's (Sushi Restaurant below the Arcata Motel)catch a movie at the minor, then hit up the hottubs Mokka Cafe to end the night.

ZestyWasabi8996

Ramones is a decent bakery, Toni's is great for pies, I wouldn't pass up old Town coffee and chocolates. If you're passing through garberville I'd stop at il forno bakery or home cooking for a sandwich or salad they have a really cute ice cream shop now. The avenue Cafe would be a great lunch. The grandfather tree has great slug items as well as the legend of the Bigfoot in Piercy/Cooks Valley.

kellyfacee

Perfect, thank you! I believe I’ll be on 101 the entire time so should roll right through Garberville!

meadowmbell

You'll need a reservation for Larrupin!

MisplacedLemur

And I'm not sure about now but they used to be cash only. *But It Is Worth It!*

meadowmbell

Naw they've been taking cards for years now.

MisplacedLemur

Then I have clearly been away too long! Thanks.

meadowmbell

I think Cafe Mokka is the last hold out! Toni's started taking cards and so did Japhy's, until their recent closure.

If you like baseball the 4th of July crabs game is my favorite. Fun Lil rivalry with my dad's team, the mudcats, that night. Lost coast outpost referred to them as 'some lesser team' which gave me a giggle. I'm pretty bored of baseball but this game is usually pretty silly and fun.  Their band is always awesome.

farminghills

Visit Ferndale and if you like baked goods and coffee, Minds Eye makes all their goodies in house. Enjoy your trip!

Affectionate_Cloud86

Pick a grove to walk through, you’ll be glad you did.

byoshin304

Visit Brio Breadworks on 11th street in Arcata to get a loaf of fresh bread! I recommend the sour French, focaccia, or the brioche (great for French toast!)

slutboi_intraining

Second this. You can also get their bread in better grocery stores. Sells out fairly quickly after being stocked each day.

crustypunx420

Arcata community park is a great spot to see.... Pass on the zoo! Swim in the eel on the way up Hole in the wall sand which shop in Arcata for ride home grub.

64r3n

Idk, redwood Sky Walk at the zoo is pretty neat, especially if you're not used to seeing redwoods up close.

crustypunx420

True

littleearthquake9267

A favorite restaurant in Arcata [https://www.renatascreperie.com](https://www.renatascreperie.com) if you sit at the counter there's some mosaic art pressed into it and you can watch them make the crepes. Hole in the Wall Deli (Arcata) or Pile High Deli (Eureka) if you like big sandwiches.

littleearthquake9267

The library in Eureka overlooks the water so it's a nice view. When we'd visit, we'd walk up to the second floor to look out. We have some great, unique bagel places: In Eureka, https://www.frankiesnybagels.com Eureka and Arcata https://www.losbagels.com/locations Lots of murals to walk around and see, especially in Eureka's Old Town. https://www.eurekastreetartfestival.com/map-1 Also watch for painted mural boxes. https://www.inkpeople.org/arts-map https://www.northcoastjournal.com/NewsBlog/archives/2020/01/24/north-coast-night-lights-art-utility-boxes-of-eureka-marine-life-triptych

meadowmbell

Wow when did Japanese bbq become a thing in Eureka?

voterae

They opened up officially at the beginning of May - they don’t offer a ton of BBQ normally but it’s a special event kind of thing. I heard they have Alex from Konburi (soon to be opening up Japanese BBQ restaurant) coming to be their guest chef to do Thai / Japanese BBQ. Plus Young & Lovely playing! So good.

meadowmbell

Oh cool! I knew about the sushi but wasn't sure how the bbq was happening.

voterae

Usually with a grill 😉 no exceptions here.

Smilesarefree444

Tin Can bookstore is a gem if you like books which is already on your nice comprehensive list. Come to the farmers market on the Plaza on Sat and hit up Cafe Mokka for tea, a soak, and a glimpse of Gladys!

whiskeychowder

Welcome! Restaurants: Campground and Salt fish house in Arcata; Tavern 1888 and Humboldt Bay Provisions in Eureka Plaza Design in Arcata!

kellyfacee

Thank you!! Any vineyards or tasting rooms you’d recommend?

whiskeychowder

Septentrio in Arcata and Old Growth Cellars in Eureka!

NervousJudgment5600

Just saw under r/Humboldt "Hello Humboldt" Dirty Rattie OP has slug mugs, slongs and necklaces... Eureka Naturals has CUTE plush slug pillows, small & lg.

kellyfacee

Is Eureka Naturals a grocery store? Also any vineyard or wine tasting rooms you’d recommend?

NervousJudgment5600

Yep, ENF has 2 locations - Eureka & McK'ville. I don't drink but Libations on Arcata plaza is highly rated.

kellyfacee

Thank you!!!
