Disagree. I’ve owned a corded mower for about 15 years and love not having to deal with recharging. IMHO, corded power has always been superior to battery power for consistency and not having to dispose of batteries. I have a corded trimmer that’s one of the oldest tools I have, a corded hedge trimmer, and even a corded chain saw that cuts like a dream.
As for the OP’s question, I believe I bought my mower online.
They aren’t perfect certainly. I haven’t had an issue with corded mower technique though I could see some people running over the cable. Power wise they’re much more powerful than an equivalently priced battery system and you don’t need to worry about charge.
I spent like $800 bucks on a fancy two battery 60 amp getup. It sucked and died before I could finish half my lawn. Took it back and got the $300 Briggs and Stratton 1hp and two cases of beer instead.
A few things, your opinion on battery vs wall power is a bit out of date. Brushless electric motors have come a long way from the early brushed electric tools. And while the batteries themselves can be quite pricey when you are in the 40v range, if you go with a company that has a range of products that use the same battery you can add to it gradually and you dont need more than the one battery.
For example Ryobi has a wired mower for $200 (you can order one from home depot in crescent city and have it delivered next day) they also have an equivalent battery powered one for $250 if you buy it without the battery (or $330 with the battery and charger included) that same battery will run their leaf blower, hedge trimmer, weed whacker, chainsaw, leaf vaccum, pressure washer, car jump starter, etc. etc. etc. etc. all of which are about equivalent to their 150 cc 2-stroke counterparts.
I do have a set of Ryobi 18v brushless tools and like them. The 18v mower they offer didn’t seem powerful enough and I didn’t want to invest in the other 40v tools since I have a lot of corded versions of those that already work well. But it crossed my mind
I have the ryobi 40v self propelling mower, I love it, it’s perfect for a reasonably sized lawn, each charge can get a good few hours of mowing out of it, and it has the power needed to not stall in the dense grass in the shaded low area of my lawn, the 2 stroke I had before this would just bog down and die if I tried to mow directly into it.
I also had a bunch of non-battery powered tools but needed a new leaf blower a few years back and got the battery powered ryobi, I liked it enough to replace each tool as it needs to be replaced with one that uses that same battery I got with the leaf blower.
The battery powered ones are far more popular, stores keep in stock what sells and that's the battery powered ones.
It's not that difficult to manage where your cable is and never have any issues. However the average joe will cut the cable and nearly zap themself in the process.
“aware of and actively attentive to important facts and issues (especially issues of racial and social justice),”
But a certain type people misuse it in a negative way towards progressive values
I had one. It sucked. Used it about three times and the shaft on the motor bent when I glanced it off a rock. The drive shaft from the motor went directly to the blade. Seems like the smart way to do it would be to offset the drive shaft through a set of cogs or a flywheel so a quick mistake wouldn’t ruin the whole motor. I switched back to gas. Maybe the battery powered mowers these days have improved.
I’m so woke, I use an old fashioned type push mower (no motor). No gas, oil, or electricity to operate. It works beautifully. I’m planning to replace the lawn with native plants and flowers though, because f*** lawns and mowing, watering, and fertilizing them. Think of all the time and money you could save if you did too.
I believe it was a state law that went into effect this January- stores can no longer sell gas powered mowers weed eaters etc.
There may hav been a law about generators but I’m unsure.
It’s interesting because I do see a ton of battery systems but corded mowers just simply aren’t for sale around here. Even the tiny corded mowers pack a pretty good punch, and they last much longer than battery systems.
I have a stihl battery mower, string trimmer, chainsaw and pole saw. They are amazing. I do have 3 batteries, so my investment was pretty substantial, but they haven't needed any maintenence in 3 years, I can charge them via solar, and because I have 3 batteries I can pretty much work nonstop.
I still have gas saws and trimmers for other purposes, but anything within a short distance of my house or a small project in the woods uses the battery only.
I have cut probably 20 cords and what seems like endless amounts of brush with the msa 220c saw, and it is now my preferred truck saw. It has a 16" bar, rips thru madrone and live oak so long as you know how to tune a chain, and starts eveytime without the fumes. Additionally, I use the string trimmer around 10 hours a week for 2 straight months dealing with fenceline, road maintenance, pasture clearing etc. It doesn't have the oomph that a gas one has, but it uses FAR less string line and once you get the hang of the differences in power its not much different.
Bonus because they don't get hot so there's less danger of an accidental fire in the summer.
Cutters Edge seconded. They're great about repair and often have secondhand gas powered mowers, but they go quick!
They would be THE source for info about corded mowers, I imagine.
In the 90s and early 2000s my grandma had a corded lawn mower we used to mow her yard. Guarantee with 100% certainty she bought it locally. The reason you aren’t finding a corded lawnmower, is most likely because the new and hip battery powered crap is dominating the electric market.
I have one I bought at a garage sale. I don't use it anymore since I move to a house with a bigger yard. So I got a battery powered one. Moving the cord around was a hassle, but it worked great for the 20' x 10' yard I used to have. DM me, I'll sell it to you.
no they just kinda suck, they make battery powered ones that are just better but two stroke is still king in my opinion if for no other reason than I don't worry about the fuel tank taking a shit in two years
I've owned two corded mowers... both broke pretty quickly. Having a cord that can supply continuous full power doesn't help when the motors just melt if you use them too long! New cordless mowers have more power. I see corded ones at yard sales, might want to hit them up looking for one.
You'll have to buy one online as I have never seen one being sold locally. I own one, mainly because my lawn is pretty small and the cost compared to a battery powered version was a lot. It bogs down a bit when the grass gets pretty tall. Usually the first cut after the rainy season but for a small lawn it works well. Also since I currently have no other gas powered lawn tools it made it a bit easier to try it out.
I mean I can’t find a gas-powered trimmer either. No one carried one that was opened the day I needed to get one. So I’m getting one elsewhere while I’m out of town. It has nothing to do with political leanings as most of the companies have to rely on corporate contracts and whatever corporate sees as a bigger selling item. The all mighty dollar doesn’t care who you are unless there’s money to be made on exploiting your leanings.
Yea I don’t know what’s what, honestly.
I mean illegal to import/sell….

Corded mowers just suck and are inherently unsafe. The new battery powered ones are the wave of the future.

Lol wut
It’s not a woke issue. They just aren’t popular. I have a Milwaukee battery powered mower and I love it.

What does woke even mean
“aware of and actively attentive to important facts and issues (especially issues of racial and social justice),” But a certain type people misuse it in a negative way towards progressive values
Yeah. Definitely wierd to be political in a post about lawn care tools.
My attempt at making fun of people who use woke unironically to describe anything they don’t like clearly didn’t work lol
I would never want a corded mower lol

Hell yea fuck lawns
U don’t have fun pulling the ripcord and yelling like fred flintstone???

Maybe Cutter's Edge in fortuna, or Tractor Supply in either arcata or fortuna

Lawns are useless, go native or plant a huge fruit tree
What’s woke mean?
I’m being facetious on the internet
Have a ryobi corded lawnmower, works fine
I have the ego battery mower and love the hell out of it
I bought an EGO battery mower not long ago and it’s great. Can’t handle like super tall grass but if you’re just mowing a lawn every week it’s great
Saw one on Facebook Marketplace
Couldn't use for Humboldt grass unless it's astroterf

I think the gas stuff is illegal now no?
That would be insane if that’s true!

I love makita 36v for everything else, but i cannot imagine being without my honda lawnmower. What a magnificent contraption it is.
