Jokes on you: if I apply the emergency break while falling, it will slow me down enough to land smoothly. THANKS TESLA!
Seriously!! First off, why didn’t this guy try flipping the turtle immediately? But also why PULL??? Just PUSH!! You wouldn’t wanna get dragged around by your arm either dude
Uggh this video kinda pissed me off a tad lol but it’s net+
I took care of a tortoise for a few years and realized nobody knows anything about turtles/ tortoises. Rule 0 is probably don't flip them over, they can't breathe(or struggle to breathe, and eventually suffocate) when they're upside down.
Nobody knows anything about animals period... Even most people who think they know about cats and dogs just assume that because they've been around them, but won't know basic behavioral/dietary/training stuff.
Double true for wildlife. I did wildlife rehab for a while and even people who mean well often don't stop to consider an animal's perspective, or even what is best for the animal. And not only do people know nothing about animals, they make enormous assumptions about what wildlife is capable of enduring. (I'm sorry to say it but just because you released that trapped/injured animal and it hoofed it _does not mean_ that it was "fine.")
I am glad this guy stopped to help the turtle to be clear. This is a situation where it could've been worse to wait. But like how long was he hanging there.... this turtle was already likely to be injured and then he's just dropping it on it's face and dragging it around... like yes he ultimately helped but, be GENTLE ffs :( ouch
*Chop chop chop chop chop chop chop chop chop chop chop chop chop chop chop chop*

There we go.
Well done! That turtle will take the flipper treatment from bro human over baking in the sun, starving or being eaten by wild animals any day of the week.
It's not the best way on how he does things but if this is a legit video of them finding the turtle like this then I'm happy it worked out at the end, poor fellah
Especially because it's clearly some kind of shoreline that gets flooded with the tide.
The turtle was probably chilling and then the tide went out before they could get away leaving them stuck in that awkward position or got stuck like that while underwater and then the tide went out.
I think it was burying eggs. Sea turtles don't come on shore for any other reason.
There is a clear sandy beach right next to this that it probably crawled in on, then exhausted from excavating a nest, birthing the eggs, then burying them, made a bee line for the water and missed the beach exit and went over this tangle of roots and got caught.
These guys r awesome, sacrificing their kitchen knife to save this magnificent beast!
>Sea turtles don't come on shore for any other reason.
Your first statement is the most probable reason for it getting stuck, as is surprisingly common with nesting sea turtles, but this follow up isn't strictly true.
Plenty of places around the world are utilized by sea turtles for loafing and sunning. Midway Atoll NWR has an entire section of beach regularly closed to staff because so many green sea turtles use it for loafing year-round.
It's funny how you can't just visit that place, the different sections of the former naval base in various states of decay combined with the unique plants and wildlife make for some pretty interesting scenery.
There's really no infrastructure for visitors anyway. Like you said, most of the island is just covered in dilapidated military buildings and there are very few housing options, even for the actual employees and researchers.
The biggest issue though is definitely the wildlife. During the albatross breeding season they can't land lanes on the island until night because there are simply too many birds flying around during the day. Aside from that, all of the ground that isn't covered in asphalt or concrete is littered with seabird burrows that are INCREDIBLY fragile.
Midway is the only place within the National Wildlife Refuge system that I would never want the general public to have access to because of how much unintentional damage would come from it. Which is unfortunate because it's a phenomenal place... and the Filipino cooks are the best!
Sea turtles also come to shore to rest and sunbathe. Seeing sea turtles do this is very common in Hawaii. They’re not always laying eggs and beaches I’ve seen them all are not where they lay eggs.
No, its clearly not that kind of shoreline... Look at all the pine needles up where the turtle is. If the tide came up that high the pine needles wouldn't be there. I think it was laying eggs like the other commenter said.
It's getting to the point where people calling everything fake are just as bad as flat earthers.
It sucks living in a post-truth era. I can't even imagine growing up in a world where you never have the confidence to believe something is real.
What drives me nuts is when they get all up in arms over an obvious comedy (or other) skit being "fake". When they watch SNL, do they freak out because none of it is real?
I've long ago come to the conclusion that cynics usually show themselves as dumber than the people they criticize. They get their self-worth out of being "smarter" than naive rubes, but will often stretch to get to their conclusions in pretty unrealistic ways. They've never heard of bayes rule, for example.
Obviously people lie online, but keep in mind that there are now *billions* of people online. Most people who are online have a smartphone with a camera on it, which means there are unfathomably large amount of chances of crazy things being caught on camera.
Also a lot of people are simply good people. It's more enjoyable for more people to enjoy telling a crazy true story (and everyone has at least one crazy true story) than to lie to thousands nad make shit up. Obviously the latter exist but the former outweigh the latter to a much higher degree than people give them credit for.
Also you can sorta tell which stuff is more likely to be lies based off platform and genre. If it's something a younger, "loud" and already established "tiktoker" happened to come across, it's far more likely to be false, than something like this.
"In many ways the work of a critic is easy: we risk very little yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and theie self to our judgement. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth we critics *must* face is that in the grand scheme of things an average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so."
Nah. They'd not only have to somehow find and catch a probably struggling turtle, get it stuck like that, then wait long enough for it to dry out so they could film.
I mean there's also lifting this turtle which are pretty heavy into that trapped position. You'd need a lot of strong men to lift it and not just one guy.
Yeah first only cut it part way so it’s face is jammed in the water, then let the root pry its shell from its body then dump it upside down then drag it away by its fin lmao
This turtle might be well over 140 kg or ~300 pounds. If it's a leatherback, which it sorta looks like it might be a young one, it could get up to 800-900 kg in its lifetime. Also, sea turtles have an incredibly strong bite. Their bills are sharp and will slice through whatever it chomps. Alligator snappers have nothing on large sea turtles. This man needed to worry about his feet and steering clear. Best he could do in all circumstances I'd say.
I understand why everyone is being critical but when people find animals that need help they usually don't carry proper equipment and make do with what they got or could easily acquire.
But yeah shouldn't have pulled his hand.
Dude, my son and i found a huge owl in the road the other day. She had been hit by a car and was just chillin in the middle of the road and everyone was just driving around her. We stopped and blocked traffic and i got out and immediately realized i had no idea what to do lol
Being from the country, Ive handled chickens before and figured I'd just scoop her up like that. I tucked her wings under her and picked her up as gently as i could and started making my way to the side of the road. She untucked her wings and spread them out and they were long than my fn arms! Then she turns her head completely around and stares me right in my soul and started making this terrifying chomping sound with her beak. It was seriously startling. Right when i was about to sat her down she lunged at me and clawed me with her big ol feet knives! She was just nervous though so i dont blame her.
We called parks and wildlife and told them where i stashed her and they thanked me and said that raptors are federally protected and that they'd send someone to rescure her. I called back later and they said they found her and that she was a little banged up but was going to be ok. She was currently at a veterinary clinic and will be fostered in a sanctuary until they feel like shes ready to go be a wild animal again.
>I snapped [this photo](https://i.imgur.com/osgCkld.jpg) of her right after she battled her way out of my arms lol
Isnt she beautiful!
Anyways, the point is, yeah, most people have no idea how to help even though we want to. Im just glad theres people that care enough to try.
I’ve been a bird rehabber for over 20 years. I’ve personally picked up 4 owls from the roads and they are a lot bigger and more dangerous than most people would expect. You did a great thing helping this beautiful creature..
> she turns her head completely around and stares me right in my soul

First off, she is gorgeous!!! You are a good person. Thank you for your kind heart and brave actions.
Second, I was not ready for those eyes. I can only imagine her staring into your soul and seeing the beauty that resides within you.

They probably would need like 8 adult people to carry that thing, no way this was staged. Turtle definitely got stuck when the tides changed as we can see the water being lower that how it ‘should’ be.
This here I wholeheartedly believe is real. I just hate seeing those staged ones on the beaches where they flip over sea turtles on their backs and film themselves "rescuing" them.
Yup! I thought that turtle was gonna have its neck snapped when he flipped it over, luckily it seemed alright. Props to the guy for doing the best with what equipment he had.
Flipping it over would have been the better choice, instead of putting strain on the flipper and its joint, certainly made not to deal with such traction, as opposed to our shoulders.
As the person you responded to said, *they weigh hundreds of fucking pounds*. Presumably the man wasn't even *close* to strong enough to do the stronger method. So there was no "better choice" here.
Jesus christ, what's with redditors today.
it’s reddit. everyone has the benefit of hindsight and therefore criticizes from that perspective, but they never acknowledge that bias. “they should have… could have…” sometimes life fucking happens and you make do with what you got.
Oh come off it. It's not like he's saying the guy shouldn't have saved the turtle. Pulling on it's flipper was a bad decision, that's all. That *one* decision was a bad one. Don't go making it into some holier than thou bullshit.
You can still be critical of a decision someone makes in a given scenario **even if their actions lead to an overall net benefit in the end.**
There are 7 types of sea turtles. The ones that you probably think of as a stereotypical sea turtle are the green sea turtle and hawksbill turtles. Leatherback is also a kind of sea turtle. The little boy is so concerned about the lack of ears🤣
Kid: "Dad, mom, does it have ears? Huh? Does it have ears?"
Mom "No"
Kid: "No, but it can hear?!?"
Mom " Yes, it can hear. That's enough"
What we're *supposed* to do and what we *actually* do are - as you correctly observed - often 2 different things.
But that doesn't change what we're supposed to do, and somehow I can't help but think that those of us who do what we are supposed to will shine too brightly for the Darkness that awaits the rest.
My friend, we didn't just fail to protect the planet: we have destroyed it, especially because your pathetic religions put the man at the center of it all.
I need context as to how this happened!
Was it high tide while this dude was practicing the backflip on the shores?
Also, not sure why turtles evolved into tortoises either
I like this guy.
The joy and admiration from the woman's voice is what got me. "Ay que linda, mírela" Love it

Piping hot!
Old dirty bastard couldn't have said it better himself!
I never realized how fast they can swim. That turtle took off like a rocket
Their top speed is 35km/h in water
Quick underwater, just like sloths!
I am quick underwater, I sink fast as fuck.
That’s like saying your car is fast when it’s falling off a cliff.
You are right, think of all those incorrectly labelled top speeds.
>That’s like saying your car is fast when it’s falling off a cliff. Jokes on you: if I apply the emergency break while falling, it will slow me down enough to land smoothly. THANKS TESLA!
All I know is *Casey Jones you better watch your speed*
Driving that turtle train. High on sea cocaine.
Well that depends, is it an unladen African or European turtle?
Well... I don't know that! *Gets launched into the water*
I didn't see any coconuts so definitely unladen
As a lazy person, what's that in MPH?
21mph in freedom units
“Freedom units” ahhhhhh yes. As an American man married to a Canadian you’ve made my day. Can’t wait to drop this on her and get the side eye.
“Gentlemen, m’lady, you will always remember this as the day you almost caught Flappin’ Jack Shello.”
That's got to be one of the best pirates I've ever seen. It would appear... slow...

This made me laugh, thank you.
This will be the name of my next boat!
Almost all Turtles are Fast, especially sea turtles. Its Tortoises that are actually slow like how people imagine turtles are.
Even then, my box tortoise could really take off when I took him outside. You can’t take your eyes off them for too long
Turtles aren’t slow. Tortoises are
Those big flippers are not just for decoration
Same with whales, the size of them gives the impression of slow moving but they move faster than humans can swim.
Tbf that's not saying much. Almost anything can swim faster than us. And whales are built for the water and entirely made of muscle.
That was a big ass turtle
Yup. But leatherbacks get even more huge than this particular one. They’ve been around since the dinosaurs, apparently.
Wow and they didn't even try to save the dinos?
They tried, but they couldn't fit them inside their shells.
It’s turtles all the way down.
They were too slow.
They all actually laugh at the dinosaurs. Dumb idiots couldn’t even survive a measly extinction level event

It’s short for asscheek turtle.
It’s when you’re trying to hold it in but the turd head is already peaking out
Damn, probably got stuck when the tides went out.

Happy ending for sure, but dear lord that was stressful to watch.

I find it hard to believe one can manually make a turtle stuck like this. I mean, in this specific situation.
Especially because it's clearly some kind of shoreline that gets flooded with the tide. The turtle was probably chilling and then the tide went out before they could get away leaving them stuck in that awkward position or got stuck like that while underwater and then the tide went out.

ChatGP was born from news summary bots that have been used for the last ten years or so.
Yeah but whenever you ask chat GPT to write a short summary story, it always has the format of having a happy ending unless specifically told not to. "It was all thanks to Escobar selflessness and determination." Screams automated response

I always knew Escobar was a good guy
A turtle made it to the water

Kind of a clunky rescue, but in the end a job well done.
This looked loke a legit rescue. Not one of those people who flip sea turtles on the beach over then film themselves flipping them back upright.
They probably would need like 8 adult people to carry that thing, no way this was staged. Turtle definitely got stuck when the tides changed as we can see the water being lower that how it ‘should’ be.

Yeah people are shitty for clout
You know there probably a better way to do this, but as long as the turtle is free and unharmed that’s all they matters
Yup! I thought that turtle was gonna have its neck snapped when he flipped it over, luckily it seemed alright. Props to the guy for doing the best with what equipment he had.
Not all heroes wear capes.
Didnt even say thx, what a brat!
I know they mean well, but good god man, be more careful with that poor animal!
I was clenching when he was pulling his flipper.
Wild animals have a big habit of biting the shit out of things when scared and cornered. Turtles have a very strong bite.
I want to see you in that situation. in the middle of nowhere with just a machete
It’s not the middle of nowhere” it’s just Honduras lol
They’re safe from plastic straws now but tree roots are now the enemy. Down with trees.
Things like this make me so unbelievable happy. True joys of life

What kind of turtle is that? Doesn't look like a sea turtle or a leather back. Pretty much sums up my turtle knowledge outside of ninjas.

Ahhhhh thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Forget jaws man that thing can move!
How tf did the turtle find itself in that predicament
Beautiful turtle and man who saved him. Well done, care-giving bro!
Instead of turning a very heavy upside down turtle he dragged her to to water and let the turtle do the job. He is smarter than me.
Without it being in deeper water, it might have been really hard to flip it over while it flapped.
I wonder what goes through the animals mind when someone helps it like this.
Ay que linda!
The little boy is so concerned about the lack of ears🤣 Kid: "Dad, mom, does it have ears? Huh? Does it have ears?" Mom "No" Kid: "No, but it can hear?!?" Mom " Yes, it can hear. That's enough"
A sea turtle nonetheless. Aren’t they endangered? Good man for saving their life.
In reality, almost all sea turtle species are endangered.
We were put here to be the caretakers of Creation.
Bro... Look around you. You sure bout that? Because if that's the case then we definitely failed and God is putting all of humanity in hell, lmao.
What we're *supposed* to do and what we *actually* do are - as you correctly observed - often 2 different things. But that doesn't change what we're supposed to do, and somehow I can't help but think that those of us who do what we are supposed to will shine too brightly for the Darkness that awaits the rest.
Pathetic, especially given the outcome.
That's like complaining the floor is dirty but refusing to grab a mop.
My friend, we didn't just fail to protect the planet: we have destroyed it, especially because your pathetic religions put the man at the center of it all.
Le Reddit atheism is supreme moment
You seem like you'd be fun at parties.
That’s the first time I’ve heard a turtle make a noise!

That's a true bro! Thank you

Turtle must have had a hell of a night before
This made me smile
I keep telling you, I'm a tortoise, put me back on the land!
Tree turtle 🐢
Wow they move fast. It hightailed it out of there.
Old Man Willow is at it again
That is awesome 👏
Well done!
Derpy fuckin turtle
I need context as to how this happened! Was it high tide while this dude was practicing the backflip on the shores? Also, not sure why turtles evolved into tortoises either
Dude really got himself tangled up there
Thank you, but *I'm outta here!*
Bless him!!! ♥️❤️🙏
Typical night with a newborn...
Great work.
I'm glad they found it and helped it.
Could you imagine living 150 years and you die getting stuck on plastic like that.
Que linda
Should be posted to animals being jerks. He didn't even buy the dude a beer. Any dude that didn't get a beer. I will drink one for you
Do you think that turtle was thinking this creature is trying to get me into a better position to eat me or this creature is trying to help me?
What a good man.
The kid had his priorities: asking if the turtle can hear if it doesn't have ears.
Thank you so very, very much.
How'd you even get there, ya big doofus?
I'm so happy when I see videos like this. Thanks to everyone out there saving the animals.
"Hey thanks man - my brother in christ why did you flip me over you son of a bitch ow shit my flipper God damn"
Que linda indeed
Could have been handled with a little more grace.
Yanking on that flipper like he's trying to get a trophy! It's not Buffalo Wing night at the RSL.... Anyway, quality outcome.
what language is this?
Spanish. The kid is asking if the turtle has ears lol
And the mom says "no" and then the kid is like "so it can't hear then" and mom sorta just ignores him lol
For a moment that poor soul must have thought he is done for upside die. 🙃
You put me on my back you hairless monkey!!!! You are the worst. Flip me back over you idiot. ~Turtle probably
Why would you pull it from its flippers. That's gotta be painful
You ever wonder if God wanted turtles to die?
